Agent Farrell and his team have Joshua backed into a corner.

At the NSMZ base, a Maelstrom permie rig and a team of scientists await Joshua’s arrival.

Silently observing from the sidelines is Peter Yee of the Siuping Clan, a powerful crime boss to whom Joshua owes a favor.

Caught between two formidable entities who want to exploit his talents for their own purpose, Joshua has one option: join the Siuping Clan as an enforcer. Instead, Yee surprises Joshua with an unexpected offer—the opportunity of a lifetime and a way out of the killing and the death he’s known his whole life.

All Joshua needs to do is survive one more night in Old Town before Yee’s jet smuggles him to a private sanctuary estate in Macau.

But betrayal is closing in from all directions...

I'm a former UNIX engineer and now a full time writer living in the California coastal mountain range above the Pacific Ocean.

The final book in the Sommerfeld Experiment published on May 30, 2023 and brings the series to a close. I describe it as Blade Runner meets John Wick.

My next series is an epic progression fantasy that should be coming out in October 2024.

My kind of story!

I liked this! The characters are really good. The setting for the story is interesting. It's a bold view of human adversity surviving diversity. Fiction for sure, but the science and technology is easy to grasp. There's so much I want to say, but I don't want to spoil it.

An Absolute Win of a Sequel

Wow! I only just finished reading Gauntlet about 15 minutes ago, and I'd have to admit it went above and beyond my expectations. At some parts I found the story progressing a bit slow, but the structure made sense in the end. Davidson had me even more on the edge of my seat and at the same time in complete awe. I couldn't believe what I was reading in the best way possible. The uniqueness of his narration, attention to detail, and storytelling is unparalleled. Even the Virtual world in this universe had me intrigued. To put this into perspective, while I was reading this I went ahead and ordered the next one in the series before I was even close to finishing because it was just that phenomenal. My many heartfelt thanks to Davidson for creating such an alluring story that has me bewitched and wanting more. Needless to say, this Sci-Fi and Cyberpunk nerd is more than pleased.

Nice sequel!

Couldn't put it down, so other activities and priorities got delayed.
My only criticism is editing and proofreading could have been MUCH better.

Complicated! Complex!

I got into this series with low expectations and I owe Davidson an apology for that. Minus a really uncharacteristic chapter from Joshua in the last book, the story has been consistent, focused and extremely interesting. In book two we see a continuation of Joshua’s complicated and complex nature. Just as Joshua has three different names that he goes by he leads almost three separate lives. I had no idea how the author was going to handle the three paths that Joshua could have taken or how things would resolve themselves when those paths converged. Davidson did a masterful job of packing things when it was time to package them. Well played sir.

Some might say I'm biased because I helped with developmental editing. Those who think that are obviously not editors. Trust me when I say that no editor adores *everything* that crosses their desk. We see great books, terrible stories, and everything in between—all before they're ready for public consumption. This series, however, has consistently impressed me. The character growth, storytelling and worldbuilding, dialogue and narration, all draw you in and keep you reading regardless of what's going on in the world around you. Al does an incredible job combining tropes we know and love with breathtaking creativity.
If you are looking for a story to sink into and really experience, I highly recommend this series. The characters are engaging, the plot quick, and the landscapes (both in the Virtual world and the characters' real world) tangible. Al Davidson truly has a gift for enthralling readers. As an editor who is first and foremost an avid reader, I loved this story.

Gauntlet is a good title for this book because I feel like I've just run one. Really a fast paced page-turner, and more than a few amazing action scenes. I felt like I was watching a movie. Have to admit I cried. Should I admit that? Maybe not. Too late. That cliffhanger ending though *rips out hair*. I appreciate the author's emotional complexity of his characters, he really does a deep dive in this one, especially Joshua, the main character.

The next book is a definite read for me.

Possibly better than book 1 in the series

Wow, I was waiting for this book ever since I read book 1 in the series and it did not disappoint. Al Davidson has created multiple characters that you can’t help but root for as they careen through this action-packed adventure all the way to the end. But is it the end for Joshua? Now I have to wait for book 3 to find out!
