SKIP is a bridge to connect aspiring homesteaders with older folks looking for someone to steward their land.
Are you young and dreading a costly journey through college and the rat race? Will you pursue money so you reach your goals sooner or follow your passions and struggle financially? Are you one of the many young people who wish they could get their hands dirty helping the environment and doing meaningful work?
Are you older and struggling to decide who will care for your land as you age or after you pass? Your kids don't want to live there and would just sell it to developers. You don't know any younger people who would keep it operating as a farm or homestead. Who will tend the orchard, nurture the garden and continue your life's work? Whom can you trust with your little patch of heaven?
Neither of these groups could easily find each other - until now! SKIP is a skill-building framework with 22 badges for homesteading activities like gardening, textiles, natural building and animal care. This free, hands-on program is as rigorous as college. Accomplishments are verified online as you progress through the levels. The certification process ensures the candidates are worthy and gives them worldwide visibility. Landowners can feel relieved; they can choose from a list of qualified stewards to carry on their legacy.
Connecting the next generation with the land - SKIP
I really liked the PEP curriculum. I am not looking for more land, but the range of topics covered and the progressive build of the courses of study were very well thought out and presented. I plan to start getting some PEP badges. I also put one of my copies (I backed the kickstarter) in my local library along with a copy of the Building a Better World book.
I love this book! For me this is the path to freedom and real life. I thought I would have to work my whole life to afford a place. I just want a place to live, raise my child, have animals, grow our own food and be free! Thank you Paul Wheaton for creating SKIP!
This book explains a method of obtaining skills, and possibly property, by learning and practicing new skills and getting credit for them. This is an easy read with loads of information. I'm working on the SKIP program at permies.com and am learning skills I didn't even know existed.
