After spotting the huge, intimidating man lurking around my shop, I'd had no option but to face him. He didn't scare me, but what he told me turned my life upside down. Maximus, the first book in the Lords of Otherworld series, features a workaholic soul collector, a wary tattoo artist who is intimated by him and yet can't seem to stay away, and a romance that spans across realms.
Each book in the Lords of Otherworld series features a different couple with an overarching plotline. It is recommended to read the books in order for the most enjoyment.

RTC but I quite enjoyed this one, it had all of the flavours that I love in a book but sadly I just had a hard time getting into the book. It felt like I was missing a lot of background information about the book’s story, as this is set in another series that I haven’t read yet, so it was a little confusing to follow through the story for me. And there was a little too much telling for me, I wish I was shown what happened more often. But I did have a fun time reading this book and the romance was quite sweet.
I received a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
I’m always down for a fated mates paranormal, so I was quick to pick this one up. But admittedly, right from the start, this book failed to pull me in. I felt as though I was coming into a series already in progress, which confused me since this is book one of a new series. A little investigating led me to find out that this is a spin off from the author’s Fates Gambit series, which explained a great deal. I have not read anything by this author before, and while this book has all the information you need, it still feels like the reader should have known what came first before reading this book. So right from the get go, I was starting off a step behind.
Kym has questions, about the death of his uncle. The authorities didn’t say it was murder, but Kym knows better, even if he can’t prove it. Why is that big burly looking stranger stalking him on the other side of the street?
Maximus is a soul collector, he’s head of the Anubis Squad, collects the souls of the worst of humankind, chases dark souls to throw them in the Burning Chasm. Watching the guy on the other side of the street, to make sure he’s okay after his uncle died is a shock. He can’t believe it, there at the tattoo shop is his mate. He just wanted to check on him. Now he found his mate, and maybe the guy is already in danger. Kym’s uncle was a rare Kitsune and murdered!
Kym expected something as instant love when Maximus told him they were mates. Kym didn’t feel anything, yah the man was gorgeous, but love? Little does he know.
Maximus doesn’t know if Kym has magic, if he has any he’s certainly in danger, so far there are no signs of magic.
We can follow Max and Kym getting closer, where Max his home in the Otherworld, is now also Kym’s home. We meet all the awesome creatures and characters from the series Fate’s Gambit! There is so much fun to find! Be aware, there’s also some excitement with evil. There’s an enemy pack who took children and they are in danger, Maximus must find a way to save them. Who is the big evil brain behind it, and why do they need the children!!
There’s an endearing snarky banter between the characters, it was great. Well-dosed we get new information, all good to digest, even if you didn’t read Fate’s Gambit. The author created a beautiful magical world, I loved every aspect, it was full of humor, flirting, sexy time, positivity and of course, there have to be some bad creatures. The story has a comfortable flow, easy to read, clearly outlined, and captivatingly written. The magic, dang the magic was something else, you could only dream of that kind of magic, my inner child was thrilled reading about it, it made me so happy! The journey is not over, I’m looking forward to Zane’s story!
i like how its soulmates, yet not insta love. it actually took some time, even though it felt lacking, in terms of "pursuing."
this felt... like ykno, you ate a free buffet, you're so full, but you still want to eat more.. yes yes. i was too full with information and i was introduced to 18 characters for the first 30 pages, and 15± characters at 80%. and they all seemed.. so important, I HAD TO remember them, it was exhausting but i can't put it down, i was even taking notes! ((i honestly felt if i wasn't cramped so badly at the start, it would be more enjoyable.)) it felt like... not only characters wise, but the author was trying to fit in every thing into this story. it.. felt crowded.. too much.
This is a new to me author and I must say that I really enjoyed this one. I didn’t realise that this book was a spin-off from a couple of other series by this author. Even though I haven’t read any of the other book I didn’t feel confused at all, and it didn’t detract from the story at all. I just really want to read the other books now, especially the book about King Damien and his mates.
Maximus is checking up on Kym, due to the fact his uncle was murdered, and found out that he was his mate. Max is a sole collector and works as a chief of one of the collection teams. He is looking into Kym’s uncles murder, after he was killed by a magical cult. It sort of follows on from the events in the King’s book, but I was still able to follow the storyline. Kym sees Max watching him and decides to go and talk to him. When Kym finally confronts him, he explains why he is there and basically end up telling him that their mates. They flirt from the off and Max tries to get them to meet again. Kym tells him to just come into the tattoo shop next time instead of stalking him from outside.
Kym doesn’t know what to make of what Max tells him, but his curiosity gets the best of him. They go on a date and Max treats him to an amazing time. Max decides to tell Kym about who he really is and what he does for a living. Poor Kym is shocked to learn that Max is basically dead, and he needs time to process things. They can’t keep away from each other for long though, so they start spending time together. I just love them together and Max is such a sweetheart despite his appearance. They have a lot in common and the date Kym arranges shows that.
Max is on the hunt for some missing children, a cause close to all their hearts. The King’s adopted son Walker went through a horrible experience at the same hands, so when children are involved, they are determined to get them back. Kym is very understanding about how important his work is to him and does his best to support him. In the same respect Max knows how important Kym’s tattoo shop and his best friend are to him. They respect each other and really support each other.
As the hunt for the children and even more things get thrown at them, they never forget about each other. They make time to be together and when things really come to a head, max is there in a flash for Kym. At that point Kym is very resilient and that is seen with everything that happens to him. He just does what he must for the people around him and wants more than anything to be with Max.
When they go to the Otherworld Kym experiences some major changes in himself. It’s amazing seeing his supe self-come out and he is so cute! He takes it all in his stride and take to life in the Otherworld so well. I loved learning about the Otherworld and all that happens there. The other realms were so fascinating, and they were explained so well, so I was never confused. There is a running story through the series, so many things were not at an end. Many things are still up in the air and the true meaning behind all that is going on is not known. It does have a HEA for the couple, it’s just that the overall storyline will continue in the other books.
I loved Max and Kym together. Kym taught Max that there is more to life than his job and Max taught Kym true love and family. They have an amazing found family and are both accepted into their family units so well, especially Kym when he goes to the Otherworld. They welcome him with open arms and are just so happy that Max has found his mate. The sexual chemistry between the two was off the charts and I loved when Max was in charge. He was so alpha male and Kym just lapped that up. Kym was the perfect bottom and doesn’t just give in to max in bed. My favourite bit was when they changed position as it showed how much they were Intune to each other. They never shied away from anything, and you could burn my Kindle with the heat coming off them sheets.
The secondary characters were some of my ultimate favourites. The King was the best by far and he was just the most kind, caring man. He even went to the human realm at the start so he could see for himself what Kym was like. He made sure they had time together and I adored him with his son and mate. Zane was a great friend to Max; I did feel sorry for Nox when they found Zane found their mate near the end. I do have an idea of who Nox’s mate will be though. Even more so after hearing Kym explain what kind of partner Killian wanted. I cannot wait to read more of this series and to finally find out what that witch is really up to. I will just have to wait patiently for the next book to come out by reading all the earlier books connected to this one.
I received this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
Maybe it is time to quit reading books by Stella Rainbow? It is not that the writing is bad or the books are not enjoyable, they just remind me too much of another author's utterly annoying habit of crossing over every new book with every book they have ever written before. I am not a fan of that, at all. It is one thing to make a spin-off series or a character come-back, but mentioning in each new book all characters and events from previously written books? No thanks. Too many characters and names, too much cross-referencing. It makes it more into a recap - "Previously in an episode we had this and that". Annoying. If it is a continuation of a story or a universe, then continue the same series. If it is a new series, then why all the crossover? Every story/ character written by the author was mentioned in this book - all Mistvale stories, the demon king's trilogy. It mentions certain events and characters, and I understand that it is like a free ad to an author, talking about their written stories in their other books to rouse additional interest, really, I do understand it, but are you writing an advertisement booklet or a new book? So yeah, that put me off quite a bit.
That aside, the story was fine. Nothing too unusual, pretty much mainstream story. There were several repetitions of certain information, mostly pertaining to world-setting, which was kind of annoying, but also understandable considering all that advertising info, cross-referencing and a ridiculously high number of speaking characters in this book. There were a couple plot holes
Anyway. Overall, it was fine. A sweet story with bit of action.
**I was provided an ARC of this book from the GRR for an honest review**["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This might be the first of a trilogy but it's not the 1st.in the whole series. There's apparently lots of other books ahead of this set that would make reading this one a better experience. The author desperately needs to have a book list in the blurb or part of the author's Amazon page for this. There's established characters that readers know nothing about. There's an entire plot carry over from a previous set of books. There's zero world building, because all that was apparently handled in the previous books. It's like walking into a movie that's half over. Not a lot flows without that previous context. I have no clue where to start in this series of connected stories without some major hunting. And I'm not invested enough in the characters to do so. Everything was too insta, not enough developing to form any kind of bond or curiosity. They seemed ok. I love the inclusion of such varied characters but since you don't know, or get to know, any of them, they don't tug at you to learn more.
I’m still not sure how I feel about this book. I really enjoyed the world building as it sounds absolutely fascinating, with Soul Collectors, the afterworld and burning chasms. However, the relationship between Kym and Maximus didn’t grab me the way I was hoping. I really liked the way in which Maximus allowed Kym to get used to the idea of falling in love – it might have been fated for him, but he didn’t expect Kym to just fall in line. And the underlying plot-line story was really interesting. But I guess I just felt like I didn’t get enough of either – I wanted to know more about the overarching plot or I wanted it to concentrate on the romance, and it didn’t do enough of either.
I was also disappointed not to learn more about Kym’s abilities. The fact that he was a kitsune wasn’t really explained apart from his very cute ears and his tail, and he seemed to adapt to the whole idea of it far too easily.
It was a nice, easy read but I was a little disappointed. I might read more in the series, especially MistVale. 3/5 from me.
This was a thrilling paranormal romance! It featured Maximus, a workaholic soul collector from another realm, who discovers his fated mate is Kym, a human with hidden powers. While dealing with their instant connection and the challenges of different worlds, they also face a growing evil that threatens Maximus's realm and puts children in danger. Both Maximus and Kym are torn between their responsibilities and their feelings for each other, questioning if they can choose love over their current lives as they team up to fight the chaos.
I loved this story with the complexities of the evil threat and trying to understand and fight it. They also had the attraction between them both which reinforced the mate bond. Lots of danger and drama as they faced evil and worked to protect the innocent. Lots of emotions and feelings as they developed their relationship. This was an MM story with mature content.
Again an okay read. Nice world-building but the characters and plot are undeveloped/ Don't get me wrong - both have a strong structure, they are just not developed to their potential. The writing style remains rough. Some of it is good and much is choppy with no flow. Time to go to another author. I will pop back when I need a shot of sweet and light, although it mystifies me that Stella stays sweet and light when dealing with topics like death and child torture.
Maximus is the first book in the Lords of the Underworld series by Stella Rainbow. This one has some interaction with the Mistvale crew and we see a lot of our throuple from Fates Gambit trilogy. This book is about Maximus and Kym. Kym lost his uncle and he always knew it was murder. Nobody believed him except his best friend. The first time Maximus saw Kym it was because he wanted to know about him as a relative of a murder victim he was investigating. After that it was because he knew Kym was his mate.
I loved this book. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written. I love this universe so much. Can't wait to read more.
Maximus is the first in the Lords of Otherworld series, a spin off from the Fate's Gamble series. I'd recommend reading them first for an introduction to Otherworld but it isn't necessary. Mistvale characters also feature. Slightly heavier in tone than Mistvale or Fate's Gamble but still full of the signature Stella sweetness. There's Maximus working to uncover the reason of Kym's uncles death and the kidnap of supernatural kids. Kym has to make some difficult choices too but they get a HFN. Decent amount of steam that we don't have to wait too long for. Told in dual pov by likeable characters. It was great to get to know Maximus a little and Kym is a great addition to the Otherworld family.
I really wanted to like this. I like the idea and the characters, but the whole thing felt very surface. There wasn't much depth to the characters, their relationship (which, a lot of their "conversations" were off page), or the story. I wish we could have seen more of their relationship, and that took them longer to accept each other -- at first, Kym wasn't into the whole "mate" thing, or so he said, but his actions didn't keep up with what he said, and then he was all in for it. There as a lot of things said that I didn't feel because the actions that followed from the characters didn't connect.
Wait...what? That's all I thought for the first couple of chapters then just gave up.
Look, it's a great premise. Characters are fun.
How'm'ever....there's obviously more books that crossover with this one. And as a reader who wants the full world building experience that would have been great to know in the blurb.
So, if you've read the other books by this other, I'm sure you're going to enjoy this.
If you haven't...well turn around bestie and go back to the beginning or you're going to be throwing your kindle across the room. And in this economy, who can afford that?
A complete mess of a book that should be avoided at all costs.
Pretty much everything about this book was bad. The world building was terrible, non-sensical, and inconsistent. So much of the book just didn’t make sense.
The rules between the human realm, otherworld and afterworld made no sense and seemed to change depending on whatever the author wanted to happen. Damien having a soul-brother to split his power into 2 beings because he had too much power, and then splitting the power further into his mates was nonsensical. Between Damien and his mates they seemingly were near limitless power, yet they were completely useless. The author went to pained lengths to make it clear that only Damien and his mates could speak telepathically, yet all of a sudden when on a mission the entire team can suddenly talk telepathically? They have multiple gyms in otherworld, but it’s specifically stated that once they become soul collectors they have all the strength they ever need and they can never get any stronger. They don’t eat or drink and don’t have bodily excrement yet they still produce semen? Once deceased, a soul can only go to otherworld once for some strange reason and then is forced to move on? Once in the final stage it’s even messier; it’s mentioned the souls get recycled, but it’s also said they can stay there and always be happy.
The list goes on and on. It was just so terrible and lazy.
On top of the sloppy world building, the two main characters were unlikeable and there were so many freaking side characters that it was exhausting.
There were two totally small things that shouldn’t have bothered me, but were infuriatingly frustrating:
1. The author went to great lengths to state that Zane is agender, and that anyone who misused their pronouns couldn’t be forgiven and they would face Damien’s disappointment. I was like, wow… this person feels very strongly about pronouns, but I’m here for it. Each person chooses their own, and I’m all for not purposefully misusing them. However, both Damien and Maximus called Zane “he” MULTIPLE times. Either it was a mistake by the narrator, author, or editor. Either way, you don’t get to be an unforgiving social justice warrior and then not live up to your standards! 2. The narrator’s pronunciation of words hit was just bonkers. They couldn’t say “supes” (a shortened version of supernaturals) correctly. It kept being said as “seeyupes”. Artemus was pronounced “Artaymus”, pulled was pronounced “pauled”, confines was “cunfines”, etc… I kept thinking that this had to be a virtual voice narration.
When all was said and done, I think this may be one of the worst books I have ever read. While I have certainly read books I hated more (side-eyes Rina Kent), this book was just so poorly constructed and terribly written that I am amazed it made it to publication. I’m even more astonished it has over 4 stars on Goodreads. All I can think is that it must have a strong following from the other books by this author in the same world that it’s just such a loyal fan base that they’re willing to give the author a pass on such a terrible book.
This is my first novel from this author, I was in the mood for something paranormal and as this was the first of a series I thought I'd pick it up and give it a go. I didn't realise it was part of a shared universe though, and while I did enjoy it going in I was more than a little lost at times and had to keep going back to see if I'd missed something (I didn't, but I just felt like it was assumed I should know how this book world should work).
I really liked this book at the start, I was intrigued by Max and Kym - the whole thing about Max being a soul collector and from another realm was great, I loved getting to know him and his world and the people in it. I do feel like some have appeared in other books already though, it felt established and I did think I missed out a little not being familiar with this world already. I loved the idea of Max being supernatural police almost, and looking after Kym in the aftermath of what happened to his Uncle.
I liked Kym too at the start, he took no nonsense and he came across as such a strong character, I loved the initial interactions between him and Max and them getting to know each other. I was so looking forward to finding out about Kym and his magic and what he was or could do.
It moved along at a great pace and I was there with it, I couldn't wait to get back to it to see what happened next. But I was kind of disappointed in the final third of the book. The ending was a bit of a disappointment too, it just kind of ... stopped. I realise it's an ongoing series so the mystery will continue in the next one but I felt unfulfilled with it all. I also wasn't a fan of Kym instantly dropping everything in his life after a couple of weeks just to go be with Max, honestly that's a pet hate of mine, one character walking away from their life they love just for someone else on a whim, almost. I was also a little disappointed that the whole driving thread of the story at the start was what happened to Kym's uncle, (that's why Max was there in the first place, after all), and Kym's desire to see his uncle again in the afterworld was part of why he went there in the first place. Then it all happened off the page, almost brushed aside and I felt a little cheated, got to be honest.
It seemed like that thread was dropped in favour of the children and Mistvale and I was a little disappointed but overall I enjoyed the book enough that I will likely pick up the next one as I kind of want to know what's behind everything that happened.
I received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest review.
This is my first book from the paranormal universe that Stella has created and I'll definitely be checking out the other series that include some of the characters that appear in this one (Fate's Gambit, Mages of Ravenshire, Misfits of Mistvale). I enjoyed how there is a slightly different look on Otherworld which is where souls go after death and then either go on to Afterworld, stay in Otherworld to work off their sins, or the truly awful go down into the Chasm forever. Maximus is a team leader of soul collectors and has been keeping an eye on Kym since his uncle died several months ago in suspicious circumstances. He's not as sneaky as he thinks as Kym has noticed him and soon confronts him. It's a roller-coaster ride from there as Kym needs protection, Maximus works to keep him safe whilst introducing him to this whole new supernatural world, and investigating/trying to save a group of missing children that's possibly involved with an ongoing case. You can feel the weight that Maximus carries when it comes to his work and finding those responsible for the missing children as well as an ongoing case that I think will span the series. I enjoyed the relationship between Maximus and Kym, they have fun and light moments that balance out the dark moments that they experience in the story. Kym is quick to accept the different world that he gets pulled into and I was expecting more time/thinking about his best friend considering the talk of how close they are but it was good how well he fit into the family and group of soul collectors and it will be interesting to see how he develops. This story has a good mix of sweet, heated, action, drama, and quality time with family and friends. I enjoyed the different take on the supernatural world that Maximus is from, portraying demons, "the devil", heaven and hell in a different light. There is a real sense of found family among the group and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the Lords of Otherworld finding their mates, especially Zane who's mate we glimpse in this book. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
I really enjoyed this one. I didn't know that this was a spin-off from another series prior to reading this. This is also a new to me author. I didn't feel lost not having read the Fate's Gambit Series. We have Kym a tattoo artist who lost his uncle, more like a father, several years previously. The police ruled it a suicide, but Kym knows that is not what happened, but no one will believe him. His uncle did tell him a little about the supernatural community. Maximus/Max is a soul collector who collects the very worst souls that are beyond any type of redemption to be delivered to the Burning Chasm, so that they are contained & suffer for eternity. They will never be reborn. Max knows that Kym is his mate and has been watching him, while seated at a cafe through the front window of his shop. He hasn't gotten the courage up to introduce himself. Finally, Kym takes matters into his own hands & confronts Max. They go on a date where Kym finds out who Max really is & more of the supernatural community. There is evil brewing. A very bad witch, not sure if she is introduced in the other series, was killed & sent to the Burning Chasm. It turns out that there are a lot of her followers still doing very bad things & they need to be hunted down & destroyed. When it is determined just how much danger Kym is in, it is discussed & agreed upon that Kym will join Max in the Otherworld. But once he does, things can never go back to the way they were before. I liked that fact that Max doesn't expect Kym to sit around like a good little soul collector while he is off hunting down the bad souls and is willing to train Kym so he can fight by his side. I can't wait for the next book in the series, but in the meantime, I will be going back & reading the other series as I want to see the trio in this book come together.
I rec'd a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.
Good idea and storyline but it’s kind of confusing
It was an entertaining short book. However, it's hard to follow the storyline because this series seems to be a sequel to another series or book. It is supposed to be a stand alone with some connections between the books, or an “overreaching plot line” but if you haven't read the other book (which I didn't, and have no clue which ones they are) you'll find it hard to follow most of the time. I wish they had said something about it in the description, just anything, so I could start the other series or book first, before starting this one. The only thing they mentioned is to read the books in order, like are you serious? They say this, but they couldn’t say that the plot, and some of the important supporting characters’ stories are very relevant to this entire series, and there are things the readers might want to know before starting this series? The worst thing is that it doesn't even say what book or series is the prequel. There’s no name for the books. They don’t even mention it as a passing thought, like “if you like this series, you might like…” Thus, even though I enjoyed reading the book and liked the characters, the story, the concept and pretty much almost everything in the book, I couldn't rate it higher than three stars because I have these annoying empty voids of information, that made my reading a guessing game, one that shouldn't have happened if the book was actually a standalone, and a first book in a series.
Paranormal, fated mates romance with a bit of angelic wet work thrown in Maximus works for the king of the Otherworld as a soul collector the Anubis squad. His job is to collect the blackest souls on Earth and bring them to the fiery Chasm. His squad also works to keep supernatural beings on Earth in line. He has been on the squad since his death 200 years before. Kym owns a tattoo shop with his best friend. He is grieving his uncle who, he is certain, was murdered. Kym also knows that his uncle was a shifter and that magic in the world is real. Maximus and Kym meet when Maximus begins to investigate Kym’s uncle’s death and discovers that Kym is his mate. What follows is a series of events that pulls Kym into the Otherworld and leads him to discovering his own magic while they try to stop more murders of supernatural creatures. Overall I liked the premise of the story. The world building is pretty cool. Maximus and Kym’s romance is sweet. For the first book of a series, it’s a pretty good start. I would have liked more dialogue between the characters rather than internal dialogue with the character. More “show” than “tell” as it were. Max is a big softie who kills for a living, but hey, sometimes people need killing. The way he and Kym take care of each other is nice. I would recommend this story, especially if you like paranormal series. I received this ARC for an honest review.

This is my first book from this author and it wasn't bad but it didn't blow me away either. There was something that just made it difficult for me to connect with the MC's
I picked it up being the first book of a series thinking I could check out the author. Unfortunately this series interconnects with the authors previous work and there is a storyline that has obviously been brought from the other series, so it left me feeling lost at times. It was quickly explained what had happened, but I didn't get the full impact of the book without reading the previous works.
I liked both the main characters and liked that they spent a little bit of time getting to know each other before jumping straight into being mates. I also liked that Maximus was prepared to work out a way for Kym and him to be together if Kym didn't want to got to the Otherworld
I would have liked to see the meeting between Kym and his uncle as that was just brushed off
I'd look at reading Zane's book, but would read the other series first so I understood the world better.
This book was a total surprise to me – I did not realize the author was expanding the Fate’s Gambit world. And what a great addition! You don’t need to have read the prior series, but it does give you some good foundational information on characters and the world itself.
Maximus is one of the team leaders; arguably the most stressful team of the bunch. He works a lot but, while investigating a murder related to some of his team’s efforts, he finds his mate. Despite being who/what he is and how intense his job is, he’s actually kind of a marshmallow in the way he pseudo-stalks his mate rather than even introducing himself. It’s a cute, slow buildup to the relationship moving at full speed.
Kym is suspicious, knows his uncle was murdered (even though no one else thinks so) and is suspicious of the strange man who keeps staring at him. But he quickly learns to trust Maximus and is open to the changes that will happen to him when he goes home with him.
The story is intriguing, the world is wonderful, and so were the characters. Loved the previous series and am looking forward to more in this one!
For content, this book earns high marks with me: I thought the premise, with supernatural beings, intrigue, and fated mates (with less emphasis on instalove, more on bonds solidified with time and commitment, which I appreciated) was a good one. I liked how Kym and Maximus fit together, and the plot was interesting and easy to get caught up in (I’m being a bit vague on the details here because it’s definitely worth experiencing for yourself– there’s intrigue, action, and as I think I already mentioned, magic). On the subject of form rather than content, the writing style is a bit exposition-heavy for me: readers are told, as opposed to being shown, most of the salient details about how characters are feeling and what’s going on, and there can be a bit of info-dump overload in the way the world building is set up. It’s useful, pertinent information, but the way it’s conveyed sometimes felt a bit heavy-handed. Overall, however, an enjoyable read.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. The interesting thing is how will Kym react when Maximus really is or what he is from. Trouble was brewing in both the human realm as well as the other world, Maximus is unwilling to put his mate in danger, only what that old saying: the best intentions pave the well worn road to otherworld! Turns out Maximus is just your old everyday stalker, dangerous and hot yes but a mate, the thing is throwing Kym off his game? because after all wasn't meeting your mate an insta-love.. I laughed so much while reading this, with the multitude of exciting characters that appears with King Damien books. The grouchy Ro'Shassz isn't so bad for a snake right?!? Well that one is still iffy, just saying. Then this greeting Yes let's stalk the mate then say "I'm blaming you if you think I'm crazy" that will sooo go over smooth as drying mud! Kym can't just dismiss the guy..right? Maximus seems to be the only one that knew about his uncle and was collectively getting the bad guys that murderous fiends.
Maximus was doing a well ness check on the nephew of a murdered man when he discovered that Kym was his mate. He is not sure he should act on this information. His job is to catch evildoers and bring them to their final justice. He has not time for a mate. Kym notices the guy watching him at the café across the street and goes over to ask him questions. He is surprised to learnt hat his thoughts were correct in regard to his uncle’s death but the rest is hard to buy. Maximus has his work cut out for him if he wants Kym in his life.
While this is the first book in the Lords of Otherworld series, there are numerous references that occurred in other books. It is an exciting world and one that is so enjoyable to explore. This book will lead me to the others. Not reading those in no way diminished my reading pleasure. Maximus was a workaholic and was not sure he had time for Kym, but being mates and finding his mate in danger changed everything. Watching Kym bloom and grow was a pleasure. I am so glad I discovered these books.
