An old-fashioned britches ripper with a tooth and claw twist.
Being the prince of all werewolves sucks.
Almost ten years ago, I did my duty and married a female even though I was desperately in love with an older man. When she died giving birth to a child who could never take the throne, I ran. I left home, shirking my responsibilities, knowing eventually they’d catch up to me. Well, they have. My father now insists I marry a female half my age so I can father a proper heir and secure our rule over the First House for several more generations.
Being chosen to serve the king is a dream come true.
Even though I grew up poor, I worked hard to support my mother. When my mentor chose me to travel to America with the king, I was unbelievably honored to meet his son, the future ruler of all werewolves. I didn’t know how to react when I first laid eyes on Prince Caster, but he cast a spell over me with a single glance, and my life changed forever. I was not only looking at my future king, but the man made just for me. The moment his lips met mine, I knew this story would end horribly…in either heartache or death.
Denying destiny is a terrible idea.
As desperately as I want to ignore my attraction to the common brown wolf, I cannot. The moment I saw the warm glow of his amber eyes, the need to take him into my arms and drag him off to my bed was overwhelming. Alas, I have a duty to perform, and it doesn’t involve the man Mother Nature made only for me.
This story won’t end well…I just know it.

I read the ebook of this story just a little over one month ago and I loved it. I knew then that the audiobook was coming and I couldn’t wait to listen to it. Audible held things up a while longer than expected but it’s here now and I started listening to it as soon as I received my review code.
I’m a huge fan of John Solo’s audio performances and he didn’t disappoint me on this one. He truly is a voice actor and the various voices he used for the many different characters sounded great to me. I hope the rest of this series comes to audio.
Below is what I wrote last month in my review of the ebook.
This book blew me away!
I’m a relative newcomer to Patricia Logan books but I’ve loved the ones I’ve read. Prosper Woods Wolves is a spin-off of her Prosper Woods Chronicles series. It might enhance your enjoyment of this book if you’ve at least read the prequel, True Knight and book one, True Mate from that series. I’ve read those two books but not the other ones in the series. While I could tell that there was a bit of backstory that I was missing, I had enough information from reading the prequel and book one that I wasn’t lost.
With the above information out of the way, I’ve got to say that this is a really fantastic book. There were times that I was totally on the edge of my seat and other times that I was totally enchanted with some of the characters.
Prince Caster was a bit of jerk at times but he was often caught between a rock and a hard place. The one thing that was hard to forgive him for was how he treated his son, but by the end of the book all was forgiven. Emory was always delightful and I loved his devotion to his duties. He can’t quite comprehend that he and Prince Caster are fated mates.
The blurb really does a much better job of telling you about this book. I just want to shout out: READ IT! If you like a story with a variety of characters and an almost old fashioned feel, you should give this one a try.
I feel like there is so much I want to say but it would be too spoiler-y. Prince Caster’s son, Oliver, turned out to be a surprise. I hope we get to see more of him as the series continues on. It was also nice to visit again with some of the characters from the Prosper Woods Chronicles series.
Prince Caster and Emory get their HEA, and there’s not a cliffhanger, but I’m anxious to see where this series goes.
A copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
This book was just so much fun. I cannot remember the last time I had this much fun while reading a book. I was just so into this book.
I really enjoy britches ripper novels so make it MM and with werewolves and you have my undivided attention and this one did not dissapoint me at all.
Brief summary Caster is a prince and his family rules over the First House and he must marry a woman and have an heir with her to get that going. He meets Emory who is there to help him. They end up falling in love, which causes them a lot of issues.
This one had so many things I enjoy. It was so sweet and romantic. It was very thrilling and I loved the world building and all of the different events that we followed along throughout the book. I really liked the interactions between the characters. I liked how dramatic everything was, that also just really worked for me.
This book just did it for me, and I enjoyed it, a lot.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion
I very much enjoyed the Prosper Woods Chronicles including the unicorn Sheriff and his Vampire mate. I wasn’t sure what to expect in this spin-off series, but I had high hopes and I wasn’t disappointed.
Caster is set to take the throne of the werewolves, but his father’s not gone yet. The prince married a woman, despite loving a man, and she bore him a son before she died. Caster was told his child was defective – would never shift, would never be normal, would never ascend to the throne. He believed those things and therefore left his son behind in the old country and moved to America where he was free to pursue more, uh, interesting diversions. Chickens come home to roost, though, and soon his father is demanding another marriage – this time to a woman half his age – so he can sire a proper heir. Caster has provided every advantage for his son, but has never visited the boy. This broke my heart. I hoped that might change when Caster brings to boy to America.
Emory is a brown wolf. A mere servant. When he’s tasked with caring for the old king on his trip to America, the younger wolf steps up. He’s worried about the older man’s failing health, and is unstintingly devoted. He’s also fascinated with Prosper Woods and when he goes out for a run – after a shift – he discovers a whole bevy of characters, including the Unicorn King, his Vampire mate, and his son Hannibal. When Emory returns to where the entourage is staying, he encounters Prince Casper. His life changes forever.
I loved how the story evolved. Especially how little Oliver and Hannibal found kindred spirits in each other. I despaired Casper would be forced to marry his child bride, but I knew I’d get my happy ending. So my stress was in vain. In the end, this was a lovely story with more to come.
Quick shout out to John Solo – I enjoy his work and this story was no exception. Great job.
Finally, I have to say how much I enjoyed the letters to the advice columnist Crabby. I looked forward to each new chapter because of it.
Caster's Prosper Woods Inn is filled with visitors in business he cleaned and but can't avoid. Amongst them is his fated mate! Night Of The Blood Red Moon is a super sweet read with a tinge of threat which has lots of the family theme (both blood and found) present, and which leaves us waiting eagerly to see what's going to happen next for Caster, Emory and the rest of their family. I loved being back in Prosper Woods...4.5*
I’m going to quote my late MIL ~ “Oh my gravy!” What an amazing story! I already loved Prosper Woods, but wasn’t enamored of Caster. Learning about his history was fascinating and telling. A LOT happens in this story and it all worked for me. The brief glimpses of previous favorite characters was a blast. Violet was once again a star. Oliver made my face hurt from smiling so hard. If you enjoyed the Prosper Woods books, don’t miss this spin-off. I’m eagerly awaiting the next story in this series, ***Recommended***
For Prince Caster being the prince of all werewolves is the worst thing, almost ten years ago he married a female for duty and she died giving birth and his child could never take the throne in the future so he ran away. He left everything but he knows that eventually his father would insists on marry an other female so he can father a proper heir and secure the rule over the First House.
For Emory being chosen to serve his king is a dream come true, maybe with time he can become something more. He grew up poor and he help support his mother. His mentor chose him to travel to America with the king as his senior valet, he was excited to meet the future ruler of all werewolves.
When they first meet they didn’t know how to react, they felt an instant connection but until the first time together they knew what they were for each other and that everything isn’t going to end up good for them.
So many things are complicated and separated them, Caster need to do his duty and he have responsibilities but also Emory is just a common wolf, but can they ignore Mother Nature? This was a great story, I live Emory and Caster. They have so many obstacles but the need to be together is impossible to ignored. I enjoy this book so much and can’t wait for more! I highly recommended!
Absolutely loved this. Caster has the weight of the world on his shoulders but in reality a lot of his heartache is his own fault. He ran out on his responsibilities because he wasn't ready to handle them. That might make you inclined to dislike him, just give him a chance. This is his redemption story and Emory was absolutely perfect for him. He's so sweet and kind which is exactly what Caster needs. It was wonderful to see Oliver and there are some interesting surprises in store not to mention the action and drama that abounds. I can't wait for the continuation of this series.
I love reaading about Prosper Woods! Caster was an okay character going into his story, I didn't hold anything against him - til reading more about his past - then he had some ground to make up. I have a grudging respect and sort of like redemption stories, and Caster came through in a big way. I adore all the characters/entities being introduced in Prosper Woods & can't wait to see what comes next! Yes, this is Caster AND Emory's book and I've left poor Emory out - but that's becuase he's too adorable for words, and a spicy little thing, I like it! Keep up the great work, this is fun!
I'm your Iranian fan and was very impressed to read this book. Tabriz is a very beautiful city ((I live in Tehran)). Thank you so much for bringing tears of joy to my eyes once again so that I know with your wonderful writing style that my country Hasn't been forgotten in the world. Iran is a beautiful old country with very bad conditions. I hope one day Iran will be free from oppression and I be able to meet you here in beauty and freedom.
I wasn't sure how I felt about the Prince in the beginning but as the story went on it was wonderful. Emory and Oliver are just what he needed. I hope we find out more about why the King is so sick later on.
4,5 I listened to the audiobook. I took me a chapter or two to really get into the story and relate to the characters. But after that I was hooked and I am looking for more in the series and the previous series The mc's get their hea and I just love Oliver.
The narration for me was 4* I had to get used to the voices John Solo uses. Story 4,5 Overall: 4,5
I wasn't sure how things could possibly turn out well for Caster and Emory in this one and to be honest, I wasn't sure at the beginning if Caster was worthy of a happy ending considering how he'd fled from every duty and obligation in the past. I figured Emory could certainly do better, lol. It turned out, however, that Emory the commoner valet was Caster's fated mate and the partner who could help him shoulder and carry his burden of responsibility to his family and his pack. A great story with a MC who does some serious growing and changing.
I loved the Prosper Woods series and was so excited we were getting a spin-off. In the previous series we were introduced to one of our MCs, Caster. I didn't like him in the previous series but he so redeemed himself in this book. He is really suffering from being heir to the throne and is being forced to marry a women yet again to get an heir. He ran away 10 years ago to America and his time is up. When his father arrives in Prosper Woods, he brings many headaches and heartache for Caster. One is Emory, the kings valet and the sweetest wolf around. The chemistry between Caster & Emory is instant, and hard for them to fight. They have a lot of obstacles in their way to be together and Caster is facing so much pressure to wed. It is like a powder keg and you know that it is going to explode eventually. They are so sweet together and due to circumstances they find themselves in it is not easy for the two. But, when it is fate it is hard to fight against it. I loved the ending and we yet again on on for another war to take place in Prosper Woods. I'm just glad that they have all of Prosper Woods behind them and adorable little Oliver.
Night of the Blood Red Moon is the first book in the Prosper Woods Wolves series, a spin-off from the Prosper Woods Chronicles.
My favorite part were the posts to the advice column at the start of each chapter, they were so much fun!
Emory was a sweetheart, a little too innocent, but still adorable. I found it very hard to like Prince Caster or feel any sympathy for him being in a situation that was pretty much of his own making. Emory and Caster were good together, and Caster got better by the end of the book, but I thought Emory deserved more. *shrugs*
Oliver, Caster's son, was a delightful surprise. On the other hand, Theo was horrible and I was glad he got his comeuppance.
The audiobook was entertaining, and while there were some voices that weren't to my liking, I felt John Solo did a good job with the story as a whole.
If you liked the Prosper Woods Chronicles, you'll probably enjoy this book as well.
This felt shorter than it actually was. I didn’t realize this was a spin-off but it didn’t leave me too confused to enjoy this book. I do need to go read the Prosper Woods Chronicles now though. I like Emory, Caster was a little harder to like even though I knew his motivations. I’m definitely going to continue the series.
I had fun with the cast - really enjoyed the multiple shifter/paranormal selection This had a bit of suspense, some light angst, and some steamy smexy moments
Emery comes across as not quite observant? naive? I could list a paragraph of descriptors for him Truly likable is my favorite He is so devoted to his duties it is adorable lol Caster is a touch self-absorbed in my opinion - How he viewed his own child - who he has not interacted with since birth Sure you are a prince but you should be a touch more... IDK - You had me wanting to knock you down a peg or two a few times
Despite all the hurdles, jealousies, and class differences, our two do get their HEA But at a price, it seems This does not end on a cliff hanger but it is the first in series
I listened to this in Audio after having read the book version I probably should have done it the other way around because I had a bit of trouble with how the narrator voiced the characters with how I had envisioned them - I know not the narrators' fault just a heads up - the same idea as watching a movie based on a book you read - never lives up to your imagination That being said ...
This was the first book I have read bu Patricia Longan but not the last. It was an amazing book that captured me from the start! Even if I hated how Prince Caster treated his son I'm happy that it worked out in the end. After alot of work it finally worked for Caster and Emory.
This is a fantastic spin off in the Prosper Woods Universe. In this story we get Caster’s story and it was fantastic. Full in intrigue, danger and family, some found and some real. Prince Caster married a woman and a had a child in the name of duty, but she died in childbirth. Caster is betrothed again. He meets Emory, a servant for Caster’s father when he arrives. Caster is enamored with Emory. I received the opportunity to listen to audio version of the story also. John Solo did a great job with the narration! Overall, fantastic! The story was well written and flowed nicely, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Thank you Patricia Logan for the brilliant first instalment of this new series in The Prosper Woods Wolves.
I really like Caster, not many people like him, think him arrogant etc.. but this first book really gives you a background into his story and he fully redeemed himself!
Emory is totally adorable 🥰
Excellently narrated by John Solo.
Highly recommend this series, especially if you loved Prosper Woods Chronicles. The gang are also in this series too, including little Hannibal, and now Oliver 🥰❤️
I loved The Prosper Woods Chronicles, and had been intrigued by Caster and his sister, Violet, so was very happy to revisit that world in this spin off series. I enjoyed the mix of romance, politics, and worldbuilding in this story, read it in one sitting, and am already hanging out to find out what happens next.
Poor Caster has had a bad run with having to do the right thing. I loved how he tries to follow his duty only to have nature decide a different, better, course for him. Emory’s had a rough path too. I was cheering for them to have their HEA as soon as they met.
One of my favourite parts of this story was how no one ended up being entirely what they were originally portrayed to be. Despite being set up as poor Caster’s love interest, I liked how Penelope is set up as poor Caster’s love interest then defies the stereotype when everything hits the fan. I loved Oliver, and seeing Hannibal and his family again. Teo is a piece of work. I was very happy with the resolution of that part of the storyline. The showdown is tense, and I loved the plot twists.
The worldbuilding is rich and detailed. I liked that the royal family is Persian in origin, rather than Western. Politics play a huge part in the story, which is one of its strengths. I suspect the matchmaker has been up to more no good than anyone suspects, so I’m interested to see how that plays out.
I also loved the role of friendship, family, and found family, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next. I suspect their enemies have taken on far more than they realise.
The letters at the beginning of each chapter are fun. Crabby is the worst advice columnist ever.
Wow! Ms. Logan packed quite a bit into this new series starter. A wolf prince who has to marry to continue his line (said prince already has an heir, but there are issues) and a servant that thinks he has no hope of finding his mate -this is the situation for Caster and Emory respectively. Throw in some arrogant and/or jerk characters, (including Caster sometimes), a close sister a sweet child and the oh so funny agony aunt column that starts each chapter, and you have a really good story. I loved that the characters were ethnically diverse, especially the Persian/Iranian touch. There is a fair amount of obstacles to Caster and Emory getting together, but they get their HEA! Though it's a spinoff, it can be read on its own. Enjoyed it!
This was a nice start to the I hope series. Fated mates finding each other. Mating is a bit different then what I’m use to. I’m not sure where I stand on that, but love that it did take a different route. I love the prince and the servant story. It was nicely done. I really love how Oliver played a role. Now there were characters that were from past series I think, but that didn’t confuse me in this story. The writing was good, the smexy was HAWT though I don’t like the idea of knots hurting, and the side characters, well at least the good ones were good. I wonder will we get a new couple or continue with this couple as the story continues.
Honestly, the book is what you think you are going to get. If you have read enough it's rinse, wash, repeat. Slightly better than most. Whoot.
I'm here to talk about the audio recording. I know this is not a popular opinion. John Solo reads everything like he is doing the voice over for a Cracker Barrel commercial. It's not ideal because of how often he says "cock." He consistently manages to make characters sound like they get the Vermont Country Store catalogue. He reads everything like he has war bonds and spends mornings at Hardee's with the boys getting senior discount coffees.
In this audiobook, for one character he reads their voice like they are an ol' man who loves sugar free butterscotch ice cream. John. JOHN made a choice with the other character, whose voice sounds like an off brand Count Chocula. The character is Persian but John narrates like he's being forced to participate a highschool production of Dracula for extra credit otherwise he'll get kicked off the track team. Oddly, the Dracula voice is completely dropped when he reads a proper Noun.
It's a mood. Not necessarily bad... Bad adjacent... sober, it's a bit much. You need some mimosas. This seriously is audio Waffle House. John Solo's voice acting in this is metaphorical 2am Waffle House Eggs Benedict. While smashed the hollandaise sauce is on point. When sober you can't get past the fact that it's neon yellow and comes in a plastic bag with a tap like box wine. Fucking box wine hollandaise sauce. Brilliant in it's ability to be truly terrible but depression including shame comes as soon as sobriety sets in.
I feel like this is turning into me being an 8 year old saying Yo' Mama jokes while playing 4-square, but no, really, I love to hate it (not so secretly.) But still... John. JOHN. I'm going to start my own cereal, Persian Puffs, and hire John to do deeply problematic/ racist ads. He already has the voice down perfect for my Problematic Puff line.
This is book 1 in the crossover series from Prosper Woods Chronicle and like that series I'm enjoying this one. Patricia Logan does a great job with the plot, the main characters and the secondary characters. There's still more characters that needs their story told and I'm looking forward to that. Excellent job with this one.
My first read/listen from this author was book 1 of the Prosper Woods Chronicle series, and that started me on journey of reading all her books. She's an excelling writer and I'm looking forward to book 2 of this new series. Hopefully book 2 won't be the last...fingeres crossed.
It’s so fun to be back in the familiarity of Prospect Woods after being away for nearly a year. TBH, Caster was my least favorite character in the books, but now that we get to spend some private time with him and learn of his back story, I like him a little more. Great interaction with the the OG denizens. Emory is a nice addition to the story. Teo? Well, the less said, the better. I’ll be curious to know is the final book in this world will play out like suspect it might, or could Patricia Logan take us by surprise? Time to find out.
This wasn’t a bad read but I definitely did not like Castor.. The sol annoyed and I couldn’t stand how he treated Oliver and he didn’t endear his self to me in the end I still didn’t like him.. hopefully he’s does better every day of his self in the next book
not gonna rate this because i'm still confused and still don't know what was happening or what was the point in the seemingly huge universe where THIS book had a very narrow plot it's technically not a part of the series but it feels like a midway novella in like 10 book series
