Hellhounds don’t have mates. But after a decade of denying his attraction to Brice, Atticus realizes the lion shifter is just that: his fated mate.
Atticus was banished from the demon realm well over a century ago when he could no longer do his master’s bidding. He had been many places but truly felt at home when he found Honey Creek. His attraction to Brice was unexpected, and when it became too much for him to control his beast, he left, leaving the lion alpha behind.
Brice wasn’t sure what the fates were doing when they gave him a human male for his mate, but he didn’t care. He just wanted Atticus and the life he knew they could have together. When Atticus left, never acknowledging their connection, Brice tried to make the best of what fate had gifted him.
When trouble threatens Brice’s sister and family, he rushes to New Orleans to help. While there, he makes a life-changing discovery about his missing mate. Atticus isn’t a human, and he’s never truly been gone. He’s now a council enforcer, and the hellhound is hell-bent on claiming his mate. But will Brice give in easily?
Atticus is Book Two in the Paranormal Council Enforcers series. Each book in this series will focus on a different couple, but these books are not standalones and should be read in order as there is an ongoing backstory that won’t be resolved quickly. This is a fated mate story in an MPreg world, but this is an alpha/alpha pairing and there is no pregnancy in this story. You should expect all the normal shenanigans, and remember that sometimes fated mates don’t necessarily understand what is going on.
Ehhhh, second book from this series, still not impressed. 😮💨
I mean, it was nice and sweet, but I needed more pining, more hurt, more drama, this is supposed to be a: I rejected my mate, thing, so I expected a LOT more feelings. But nope, the author tried but it still felt sweet.
And since I also didn’t like the fiest one in this series, maybe is time to stop? I'll think about it. 🤔
While I'm certain that anyone who has read my previous reviews on the series will wonder what I'm doing still reading this (I can't remember honey den and timebr valley though I did read them, disliked warlocks of Amherst and felt hit or miss on vampires of the beloved gem), I'm pleased my stubbornness wouldn't let me leave this series alone. Alas, it's getting good! After my complaints of everyone being baby crazy, we finally get a couple who isn't gung-ho on having a thousand babies! Or even a single one! And we see a teenager! Three teenagers even! And babies from previous books, mentioned by name! A plot that doesn't center around the pregnancy! No tea! No jokes aside, I liked Atticus and Brice. And we have a plot that centers around them, not an insta baby they conceived 20 minutes after meeting. This book goes and throws aside each and every thing that has made the previous ones duds in my eyes, and gives us a really good book. Go Taylor! Sad it needs four so so series to get here, so many new readers will not get this far if they share reading preferences with me.
I feel like this book was maybe a transitional book or something because it was not what I was hoping it was going to be. This is Atticus we met Atticus and several books and we really didn’t get to really experience Atticus and all of his full glory. There was speculation of what he would be for the longest time and the reveal of what he was was lackluster and then we didn’t even get to experience it. Then the great thing happened from the goddess and she told him all this stuff and we didn’t get to even experience that. To top it all off the meats were apart for most of the time and Brice in his full alpha lion had babysitting duty and household duty most of the time which I guess he enjoyed but then decided he didn’t want that. I don’t know it was just didn’t live up to the hype of what a story about Atticus and his mate would be. I’m hoping we get to see more in the next book but I’m rather sad about this one not being what it should’ve been. The writing was good the smaxi was great too many side characters coming in and out. I’ve read all the books to know who the side characters are but it did become too much really. This is not a standalone for that reason and the plot in the background that is kind of fizzing out.
I liked this one too. I was curious about Atticus and his mate and I have to say, I loved their story. Atticus realized his mistake and set on making it right, he owned that and I liked that. Brice was hesitant about letting him in, which was totally understandable, but eventually Atticus won. I liked them together and I can't wait to see more from this world
I did enjoy this story. I found the characters engaging and the plots interesting.
Rating: 4🌈
This is my first dive into author Taylor Rylan’s Universe of Destined Paranormals. A universe of connected paranormal series, five at the moment, in which there’s fated mates and mpreg/omegaverse stories. I listed all the series in the suggested order of reading below, however, did come into Atticus with no prior series knowledge or universe foundation.
The reason I chose Atticus to explore this multi series world was the lack of mpreg here, one that’s a factor in many of the other novels. This story has two alpha males at its center, and that’s why they are incapable of having any offspring.
The characters are carryovers from prior stories and the events mentioned in the book, some hugely impactful to the characters, may have happened during previous novels. Rylan’s story does bring those threads and backgrounds forward, but it can’t be with the same depth given the length of the book and the current plots that have to be explored.
I did enjoy this story. I found the characters engaging and the plots interesting. The themes, an ongoing series arc of an investigation into paranormal trafficking, especially the young, is handled here without specific details while maintaining an emotional connection.
I really like both Atticus and Brice, and they look to figure into the future storylines as Atticus’s alpha status emerges with regard to the hellhounds. I found that I could get involved in the characters and the many dramatic moments even though I hadn’t read the other series and wasn’t particularly knowledgeable about many aspects of the universe and characters that appeared here.
The writing and plotting was well done and I was engaged in the storyline from the beginning. There’s fifteen books in the Paranormal Council Enforcers and I’ll probably do what I did here, deciding which story interests me most going forward.
If fated mates and a paranormal universe interests you, take a look at the many series and books here. Be aware that most include a mpreg/omegaverse element. But not all.
It’s a definite recommendation.

Atticus by Taylor Rylan is Book Two in her Paranormal Council Enforcers series. You really need to read the books in this and previous series to get the most out of the story due to reoccurring characters and a continuing plot line. This is the story of Atticus and Brice. Atticus is a Paranormal Enforcer but I am not going to reveal what kind as this is something I believe the author wants you to find out for yourself as you read. He is, however, the only one of his kind that has come forward and is very powerful, especially after the Goddess visits him and grants him his powers. Brice is a lion shifter working as a sheriff’s deputy in Honey Creek. They met 10 years ago and Brice recognized Atticus was his mate, but Atticus did not reciprocate because his kind did not have mates. He felt the pull but didn’t know what it was and he didn’t want to hurt Brice so he left. It is now 8 years later and Brice’s sister and her vampire mate are missing in New Orleans so he goes to look for them and gets captured by the 2 beings that are wreaking havoc there. The Paranormal Council is sending enforcers and others to look for them and Atticus is one of them because of his special powers. He finds Brice as well as his niece and some young wolf shifters who have been stolen and were being held supposedly to be trafficked. He frees them and the story continues from there. It includes coming to terms that they are mates and claiming each other; following clues to find Brice’s sister, her mate, and her stolen newborn; and lots of suspense as they continue to look for the 2 beings who are causing all the problems in New Orleans, finding out what they are, and taking them out. This series has become one of my favorites and this one does not disappoint. I like reading books that have reoccurring characters you know and how they help the main characters and contribute to the story as a whole. There was a lot of angst in both figuring out their relationship as well as the plot moving forward. The paranormal world that Ms. Rylan has created is both interesting and refreshing and different from others that I have read. I highly recommend this book and series and am looking forward to what she has coming next.
Lion shifter Brice knew the moment he met Atticus that they were fated mates. He also believed that Atticus was human and was prepared to take things very slowly. Atticus firmly believed that his kind weren’t gifted with fated mates but when it was getting too hard to control his beast around Brice, he left. Many years later they reconnect when Atticus, an enforcer for the Paranormal Council is sent to locate the missing lion. Brice went to New Orleans to help his sister but has not been heard from since. Even though Atticus now knows he and Brice are fated mates all does not go smoothly for them. Brice not only has to negotiate the fact that Atticus is not human but he’s also under immense pressure with trying to locate his missing family members. Add to that the sizzling chemistry between them and Brice feels that his life is getting out of control. These two very likeable characters do manage to overcome all the obstacles put before them and get their very long awaited HEA. This is a very enjoyable fated mates read with a great cast of characters and two Alpha’s who finally get to celebrate their mating. The overall story arc continues in this instalment with progress made regarding the villains of the piece.
This one was a bit better than the first one. I was a bit confused at the beginning because they never tell you how much time has passed and everyone's emotions seemed to be all over the place. By the half way point, Bryce went from "I'm still mad at you for leaving me 8 years ago" to "I've always loved you" in one chapter. After that point, the book was actually better. Another thing I apparently didn't notice as much in the first book was all the "showing" text. The author describes EVERYTHING; all the domestic home stuff, every time they go anywhere, inner thoughts, etc. It just gets very long winded after a while, so I ended up skimming some parts. I was always hoping something would happen to break up the monotony but it never happened. Being really descriptive isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in this instance I think they were focused on describing the wrong things. I could have really done without all the back and forth between the Counsel building and everyone's homes. Overall, I enjoyed this book and the way the plot is progressing. I'm also very interested in Reinhold's book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I keep telling myself that I'm not going to read any more Taylor Rylan books, yet I continue and honestly in no particular order, usually I move to whomever is a favorite character in a prior book. Rylan's books do have loads of potential. They are well put together but they are only glimpses of porn. The sex, the emotions are all starting to sound the same. I give Atticus' story a little credit, it actually had some action and a few answers as to who/what the bad guys are.
Spoiler here... My biggest pet peeve is when Edison gave the word to kill a coven master to Atticus. With Ambrose being the created vampire and Atticus being his bodyguard it should have been Ambrose who made the call.
I'm still wondering why Ambrose is the only created one who needs a bodyguard. Maybe at some point it will be explained or possibly it has and I've skipped over a book or two. Can anyone point the way?
Can a Hellhound have a fated mate after 10 years of waiting?
This installment of the Paranormal Council Enforcers book was so worth the wait! My old friends pulled me back into their lives. Again, the Created Masters are here. The Council is still trying to eliminate the trafficking ring. This time, it hits close to home. Atticus ran from his lion mate, Brice, because Hellhounds don't get mates, fated or otherwise. Enter the Goddess, who has other ideas. There will be several kidnappings & rescues, a demon, an evil fae, reunions, & the Fates. Ooh, and sex. Lots of sex. Rest assured, Atticus & Brice will get their HEA. You are so going to love this book! The next book is on it's way. I can't wait for it to arrive.
Atticus and Brice have been a very long time coming. I liked how Brice wasn’t willing to immediately turn over after having been so hurt by his mate before - even though it wasn’t intentional. How, exactly, did Atticus change to allow him to become more than he had been? Will the other hellhounds immediately start feeling the pull of a new pack, or will they only feel it when they too are ‘ready’?
While we did get some answers to the questions of who is behind things, and why, this book only begins to deal with them, and any success is, so far, only temporary. I have a feeling that the fates can’t keep things isolated forever, and I worry that potential corruption among the enforcers may be an upcoming issue.
. . . Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟 Hot: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 É uma leitura F(. . .), desculpe pela palavra, eu amei 🖤. . . Amei! . . Boa Leitura 😘
I’ve been waiting for Atticus’s book from the moment he was reintroduced as a character, truth be told it’s been driving me nuts trying to figure out what kind of paranormal he was and hellhound was not one of my guesses lol. I enjoyed every second of this, Brice is an amazing character and he and Atticus fit so well together! We got answers and a few more questions about the overarching plot and got to see some familiar faces (Aspen and Forrest 🥺). This book gave me all the feels, especially Liam and Cecile’s connection, I’m so glad everyone got their happy endings!
Such an amazing addition to the series and I can’t wait for the rest of the books!
This is another great installment in the Paranormal Council series. Shifters Brice and Atticus have waited a very long time for their HEA and what a wonderful and suspenseful HEA it is. Having first met these characters early on in the series of stories that have led up to the paranormal council just reinforces how strong and creative a writer Taylor Rylan is. I love how this world just continues to grow and get better with every book! I highly recommend this story which can be read by itself. If you have not read the previous series, I encourage you to as they are so good.
This is a paranormal shifter romance series, the second book of a new series but like the fourth or fifth interconnected series by this author. I love this new series with the mystery behind it all which started with Matteo’s story in the “beloved Gem Series” This isn’t just about shifters and paranormals finding their fated mates and falling into insta-love, the plots really have some meat to them with a big nasty bad guy out there. I loved Brice from way back as a secondary character and had always wondered if things would work out! Definitely give this series a shot!
I absolutely loved this latest book in the Paranormal Council Enforcers series!! Finally after 10 years of waiting, Its Brice and Atticus's chance to act on their connection and become the fated mates they have always been to each other. It isn't easy, lots of ups and downs, twists and turns but they are willing to make it work because they can't imagine their life without them in it. Such a great story, one that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Loved their story so much and I can't wait until the next story in this amazing series. Well done!!!!
I think this was a first in the series where the MCs didn't get together till more than half the book was done. And it had a plot with proper suspense and stakes and a good payout at the end. It was getting a bit tiring to hear about the big bad in the books without really knowing who the big bad was and now we have a more concrete idea. I also liked Brice and the relationship seemed more compared to some others in the series for me, probably because they actually knew each other for years. On to another book in the series for me.
OMG!!!! Atticus, is a wonderful, action packed, wonderful characters old and new, adventures, fated mates, love, and HEA!!!! I could not put this down once I started reading... I even went back and reread this amazing story!!! Atticus & Brice, you made me smile, grin, happy, frustrated, and finally sooo satisfied!!!! Thank you for such a wonderful read!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!! VERY VERY WELL WORTH BUYING AND ADDING TO TAYLOR RYLAN LIBRARY!!!! This is another winner from an amazing author!!!!
I would definitely recommend reading the other books in the series so that you can enjoy this book to its fullest. I’ve been enjoying the slightly angstier feel to this series (though it’s by no means full on angst). I like that Atticus and Brian had to work at being mates. It added a deeper layer to their relationship and made it all the sweeter when they finally found their HEA. In addition to these two finding their HEA we also got the continuation of the overarching plot and see some of the recurring characters we love. Can’t wait for the next book!
Oh my goodness we finally get Atticus's story. I absolutely love Atticus and Bruce together. It was so very interesting here what happened in the past and why things were the way they were. I never thought of that problem, so that was very interesting. I loved watching them come together as a couple. Like I could feel myself finally taking a deep breath once they were able to move on from the past. I have become so wrapped up in this world I feel like there all my family too.
Another great read from Taylor Rylan! This relationship was a long time coming! I loved the alpha to alpha dynamics similar to "Canyon's Choice". There are interesting developments in the overall storyline...that I won't spoil ;) The romance was swoon worthy, the action fierce and lots of feels of both heartache and happiness. It was also great to meet up with old friends. Overall, well worth the wait!
This one is hot. Long time apart is not my favorite trope, but I thought Brice was so sweet and who didn’t want to see Atticus happy? I’m a little sad I realized this series comes after so many other series because I’d much rather have started way back at the beginning, but now I’m hooked regardless and frankly, I’m just so happy to have found another mated series I love. Onward!
This was disappointing. There was a lot of history between our two characters that was a really big deal until it became inconvenient at which point it was just hand waved away. This leaves me not believing that these two characters are going to make it for the long haul. They are not great at communicating and spent more of the book apart than they did together. Do I believe they are in lust? Yes. Love? No. I’ve read quite a few good books by this author, but this was not one of them.
Since the first time we were introduced to Atticus I was dying to find out what kind of paranormal he was. It was hinted at in several books. I couldn't wait for his story. It was worth it's wait. He is one of my favorite Alpha's out of this world. Next is Reinhold. It's gunna be forever. *whines* two months I gotta wait. Ugh. 😉
Atticus is a hellhound and they don't get mates ... but Brice sure smells like mate to Atticus.
Brice is an alpha lion who scented his "human" mate 10 years ago. After 2 years of working together, Atticus leaves without seeming to feel the same pull Brice does. So why is Atticus back and suddenly he's a shifter and calling Brice mate....
This is another amazing addition to this series and whole! Atticus and Brice's story has been a long time coming. I love these two so much! I love seeing how these two had to work for their relationship. Taylor Rylan has made such an expensive world that just keeps on building. I can't wait for the next one!
Oh my! I loved these two so much and there ending was so wonderful! After everything they have been through they deserved every bit of the happiness they were given! My heart broke for the both of them but Taylor is amazing at what she does and always makes sure her characters get their happy ending! These series is beyond great & I can’t wait to read Reinhold’s book next! ❤️😀❤️😀
This story was a slow start for me. But once engaged, my interest never flagged. No insta love/mating for this lion and hellhound pair. They circled each other a bit. And when finally getting together, Council work and duty forced a separation. So it was a nice build up before the inevitable get naked and spend the night having hot, knotted sex. Not as good as book one, but a solid storyline.
