From Author Richard C Hale comes The Last Dawn series, a pulse-pounding apocalyptic saga featuring endearing, flawed, and complex characters and riveting action adventure. A survival thriller perfect for fans of disaster and post-apocalyptic adventures.
*This is the prequel to the series, The Last Dawn. Rated PG-13 for mild language and moderate violence*
Richard C Hale has worn many hats in his lifetime including Greens Keeper, Bartender, Musician, Respiratory Therapist, and Veteran Air Traffic Controller. You can usually find him controlling Air Traffic over the skies of the Southeastern U.S. where he lives with his wife and children.
This story begins with Cori at a story to pick up items for her room. Everything is changing with the impact of a dangerous infection. Once someone catches it, they die with a couple of days. Cori, who is a nurse, has been working in the hospital and has been lucky so far to avoid catching it. As time goes by, Cori's roommate catches the disease and Cori soon takes her to the hospital where she winds up dying a couple of days later. Cori is worried about her mother who lives in another area of Florida. Cori decides that she will take her car and go to her mother. Once she gets on the highway, she runs into a major traffic jam and after several hours winds up leaving her vehicle and begins walking to get to her mother's Along the way she meets a young girl whose mother has died in the car of the disease. The young girl is going to the same town that Cori's mother lives in.
Their journey takes them awhile and they have to take shelter where they can find it. Many events occur as the journey. The rest of the story follows their actions as they continue on. To find out who they eventually meet up with and what they find when they arrive, then you must read this book.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
If you are looking for a quick read short story then The Last Dawn:Chaos is the book to read. But beware once you read it you will probable be hooked on The Last Dawn series that will start to come out in March 2022. In The Last Dawn:Chaos we meet nurse Cori Dresdon, a young woman who after an outbreak of The Pukes” has left most of the population dead, is wanting to go home to her mother and to find her younger sister. Along the way we find that Cori is no stranger with guns, and is not afraid to use them to protect what she determines needs protecting. Along the way to her mother's house she finds a young girl, Kyla, whose mother died from the pukes while trying to escape to the mother's parents house as well. Cori decides she must take Kyla with her since she can not leave her on the abandoned highway to die of starvation or worse. If you do not want to get started what looks like to be a great series of books do not read The Last Dawn:Chaos. But if you do not read it in my opinion you will be missing what appears to be a great series of books, without the overplay of zombies/undead trying to eat every living human left on earth.
I couldn't put this book down! It is only a short one and I read it in one sitting, it is fantastic! It's a prequel to The Last Dawn series, and it has definitely got me excited to read what happens. It had me hooked right from the very start! Cori, is a student nurse and the world has started to go into chaos with a deadly virus, known as 'the pukes' spreading across the world. Cori quickly realises how bad things are going, so she sets off to find her mum and sister. The journey isn't as easy as she thought it was going to be, and she has to defend herself along the way, it's handy she is comfortable using a gun. Along the way she finds a young girl, Kyla, whose mum has died from 'the pukes'. She doesn't want to leave the girl alone, so she takes her with her in search for the young girls grandparents. This book really starts off the story really well and Richard C Hale has created another fantastic book! I can't wait to read more, I highly recommend giving this book a read. I think it's going to be an amazing series!
I received an early copy of this ebook for a review. The genre end of the world has been one of my favorites since reading The Stand when it was first published. This is a prequel so fairly short. The main character is a young female nurse named Cori Dresdon. The story picks up as the virus named "The Pukes" has already caused chaos around the world. I felt the story was a good start and I am eagerly awaiting book one to be released. The prequel leaves a lot unanswered and room for many adventures. I liked Cori as a strong female main character which becomes apparent by her actions in the prequel.
I loved this book! There is something so realistic about the story line—I guess because of our current situation, but it makes you wonder what if things progress to this level. COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on our society, but things could be worse like it is for Cori and others. Her world is dark and silent, and the population is dying off while others, desperate to survive, fight against each other. Scary and thought provoking and a GREAT READ! I am looking forward to the rest of The Last Dawn Series.
A sudden and deadly pandemic has struck world wide. This brings out the best and the worst in people and sometimes good people find themselves in situations that cause them to do things that would previously have been abhorrent and against their moral code. This fast moving prequel left me asking “what happens next?” I can’t wait for the next book in the series to be published.
They call it the Pukes- if you get it, you’re dead in days. It starts like food poisoning but never lets up. Millions die in the first week then a billion in the first month. Society starts to break down because there isn’t enough people to keep things running. Do we look out for each other- of course not! Debauchery reigns supreme.
Great quick read - prequel to the Last Dawn series. I've enjoyed reading Richard Hale's other books (Jaxon Jennings series) and enjoy his characters. I feel like I know Orange Park, FL very well at this point even though I've never visited there.
The prequel to The Last Dawn series will definitely pull you in to the first two books being released shortly. Very well written apocalypse series with a strong leading woman.
A fun little prequel. Exactly what I expected for a book like this. I know that Cori is a main character in the series, and I'm hopeful some of the other characters make an appearance as well. Also, I want to know what happened in that little town! Good story, can't wait to read more.
Great introduction to the series. If you are s fast reader, this book can easily be read in an hour or two. Great introduction to the series. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books!
A short story prequel to the series, this introduces one of the main characters and the initial struggle to survive in a world torn apart by a devastating viral infection.
There is a good building of the plot line and the story progresses to a level that is as believable as it is terrifying and sad.
Really look forward to the novels to follow in the series.
A different style after the Jaxon books but really good, this almost taster book gets you hooked from the first few pages, apocalypse but different from the usual novels. Gripping and page turning, can’t wait for the next one.
