Ryukishi07 (竜騎士07, Ryūkishi Zero Nana?, born November 19, 1973) is the pen name of a Japanese man originally from Chiba Prefecture who is well-known as the original creator for the idea of the visual novel series Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Umineko no Naku Koro ni. He is the representative member of the group 07th Expansion. His pen name originated from the Final Fantasy series, "Ryūkishi" being the Japanese term for "Dragoon", and "07" goroawase for the name "Lenna". His illustration style is recognizable from the large hands he draws on people.
Yay, finally getting into the meat of the whole story. This is the most gruesome one I've read so far. Also the ending ... I don't remember that being in the anime? I could just have a terrible memory, but if not then it's exciting to have new bits to read.
Am I... the one that’s gone crazy..? Or Hinamizawa?
Y’know, until this arc it was a lot easier to have an answer to that question. While the focus is on Satoko this time, it turns out she’s a catalyst rather than an instigator. No, Keiichi’s going to be looking a lot closer to home for the cause of all the problems this time around...
Phew, this whole story turned into a marathon rather than a sprint. In fact, my biggest complaint is that this volume weighs in at a whopping 300 pages and change, which is a lot of mystery to wade through.
That said, it’s a very, very good story. Definite trigger warnings for abuse, but the way Satoko’s situation goes out of control and, likewise, Keiichi’s attempts to restore normalcy (and in this village that’s the very definition of falling at the first hurdle) spiral into madness are quite well done.
And this volume does such a good job moving all of its established pieces in new, novel ways. We end up skipping over the festival, reality may or may not be warping in crazy ways, there’s a very interesting new angle on the formerly helpful Ooishi (or was he ever actually helpful?), and that final chapter... oof... let’s just say the creepiness is back and then some.
Coupled with an increasingly unhinged Keiichi and the events following in his wake and you have an arc that goes to pure bedlam by the time it’s done. It offers an end to its own story, but it leaves behind even more enticing questions in its wake (to say nothing of an unsolved murder and a suspicious suicide).
I mean, like I said, the downside is how much is stuffed in this volume. It’s absurdly dense and keeping it all straight can be a thing. There’s certainly a specific sort of reader who will be in heaven tracking down all the possible clues. At this point I am happy to bob along in the narrative and see where it takes me. Both approaches are quite reasonable and you’re likely to find the story rewarding either way.
3.5, but rounded up this time. This section is intense and crazypants, but it’s the best one since the first two volumes and leaves so much unanswered while still being mostly cohesive. I’m already looking forward to the next journey through the village, just to see where it might lead next.
Try is volume wraps up the Curse Killing arc and poor Satoko is obviously being abused and traumatized. Keiichi has gone mad once again and character end up being killed left and right. Once the volume comes to a close I just want answers as to what is happening… yet since the printing for this series was discontinued I will never get to experience that other than wiki fandom…
I'll admit it- while I love this series to pieces, this is my least favorite arc of the Higurashi series because it wrenches so many different emotions from me. I suppose that would be the mark of a truly great series, that it can do that to a person.
This arc finishes the Curse Killing Arc, which means that there is only one more question arc left before the series starts supplying us with answers to our questions. Satoko has been missing more & more time from school due to the sudden return of her abusive uncle. When Keiichi starts questioning why the authorities haven't stepped in, he's less than pleased with their answers... and soon decides to take matters into his own hands.
The artwork in this volume is beautiful. It's amazing how the artist for this arc managed to capture all of the different emotions in this volume & there's quite a few of them. This volume is definitely a confusing one, with parts & pieces from previous storylines & small hints of answers beginning to appear. You can really see where all of the alternate stories are starting to crash into each other at this point.
If you haven't read any of the previous stories, you need to. Not just because the series is that good, but because you need to know what happened previously in order to really understand what is going on. This is one huge mind trip of a series & you really need to have started from the beginning or have watched the anime to really understand what is going on at this point.
So far, so good with this series. I'll keep purchasing them as soon as they come out as long as they stay this well written & dra
Saddening arc, but one that starts to really link together the pain of the village, particularly focusing on Satoko this time. I'm not sure I understand what the keys are, but at this point it seems like
This was a really cool ending that I was not expecting at all. I really enjoyed how this one ended, it was sad about Satako and her abuse. But Something about Keiichi literally losing his mind and not sure what is happening and then the sudden poison killing the village. Brilliant. I've very happy with this ending, and this might be a very strong second place!

I'll admit it - when I first saw the anime of this series, I actually copped out of seeing the ending of this arc because I read that it was the most disturbing of the question arcs. ...In terms of sheer gruesomeness, I actually think that title goes to the Cotton Drifting arc, with its answer arc taking the title for the series overall. This one is disturbing, but it's on a far more visceral and emotional level, and that aspect really makes me wish I had gone through with it during my first viewing, although the anime of it was subpar, and this arc got the worst part of the cutting room floor.
OK, that said, this is a very good rendition of the final portion of the arc. Suzuki's style, which has trouble catching the more action-oriented scenes of Umineko, does wonders with the cerebral and emotional horror and suspicion that suffuses every scene of this arc. An excellent effort also went into the aforementioned scenes left on the cutting room floor for the anime. Everything flowed together into an ominous and confusing morass, and the very last scene (surrounding a twist that I refuse to divulge here) captured the tone almost perfectly, incredible, since that scene really should not be easy to render in manga form.
This has to be the best arc so far. In my opinion.
The story begins as normal. This arc focuses more on Satoko and her family life. We know from the other arcs that her family (mother, father and aunt) were Higurashi victims in the previous years. Her brother, Satoshi, had "transferred" before Keiichi arrived in town.
This time, Satoko's uncle has returned to town. To put it simply, he's an abusive dick. After trying to alert the authorities to Satoko's situation, Keiichi decides to take things into his own hands. Armed with Satoshi's bat, a rapidly deteriorating mind and a stupid plan, Keiichi is out to draw blood...
IUAHBDFJKADL!!! Scary! But so good!!
Ooh.. We didn't have as many demons as the other arcs had. Good, they're scary. But Keiichi was... *shivers* So cold-blooded!
I liked the doctor guy...
The ending made me very sad. A simple wish could do that much damage...
Crazy-ness we are at a 10. Wow was this, um, yeah, this arc was something. Wonder what the next arc will be? Same old creepy and crazy, most likely. This series is really good. Creepy but good.
