40 Days with Jesus is a seven-week study that walks through the life of Jesus. From his birth and his childhood, to his ministry and teachings, each day walks through a passage in the gospels to grow our understanding of who Jesus is and what He has done. This study can be used as Lenten companion or it can stand alone. As you dive into this study, our hope is that you would learn more about the life and ministry of Jesus, growing in greater knowledge and understanding, and walking with Him for a lifetime.
Is there any better way to prepare for Easter than spending 40 days with Jesus? The past couple years, I’ve wanted to work the rhythms of the church calendar into my life more, and this was great for Lent. Full disclosure, sometimes the questions for the day left something to be desired, but those aren’t the core element of the study anyway. Immerse yourself in the Bible passage(s) each day, and you will gain riches. This Bible study certainly helped me know and love Jesus more, see the gospel more clearly across Scripture, and enter Easter Sunday with a heart well-prepared to celebrate our risen Savior.
Reading 40 Days with Jesus felt like taking a much-needed pause in the middle of life’s busyness to reconnect with what matters most. I read this in conjunction with watching The Chosen which was amazing. They ran parallel to each other and it made the readings much more personal. This study gently walks you through the life of Jesus, day by day, and invites you not just to learn about Him, but to truly spend time with Him.
What I loved most was how each day pointed me back to Scripture. Nothing felt rushed or overwhelming. Just one meaningful step at a time and paying attention to His words, His actions, and His heart. Some days, it felt like the passages were speaking directly into what I was going through.
The weekly focus didn’t seem to go in order, like we were jumping around in the order but maybe that was just perception due to jumping around all 4 gospel accounts. Near the final quarter the book has you read every gospel account of whatever passage you’re focused on. This was a good guide for our weekly group discussions and made daily homework and easy task.
This is such a beautiful Lent study. It has been a joy to work through during this Easter season. I know I will complete this study again. It’s just that good!
Praise God…Praise God…Praise God. I’ve learned so much about our Savior reading this book. It has opened my eyes to see things I haven’t seen in the past. It helped me to focus on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and I am so happy I choose to do this study. The only way to the Father is through the Son. If you don’t know the Son then you don’t know the Father. Get to know who Jesus and who He really is. Why? He died on the cross for You and me. He paid the ultimate sacrifice. He was beaten, hated on, talked about, put in prison, hung, etc. for us. There is no love greater.
Please get this study. It will change You for the better.
This was probably the hardest study for me to finish. It was during one of the busiest seasons of my work life so far, and the discipline to do the daily study was difficult. But I did it! Overall, this study was super insightful and a great way to focus my heart for the season of Lent. Learning more about Jesus’s ministry during His time on Earth, along with weekly reflections, helped me hone in the reality of Easter. Highly recommend.
4.5 stars. It was very well written...only a couple places I thought they could have connected more dots (especially day 37 about Jesus the true vine could/should have tied into Galatians 5 and the Holy Spirit).
This is definitely a get-what-you-put-into-it study but well written and gets you spending a lot of time in Scripture. I liked going through it with other men and everyone being able to participate in the discussion whether someone had spent just a few minutes a day or an hour.
I enjoyed walking through the life of Jesus this lenten season. I liked the daily scripture readings, and the commentary was good. Most of the questions were fairly easy to answer. Some were subjective, some were knowledge-based, and others were merely reflections. Overall, I would do this study again. Especially with my 2 besties!
I truly loved this study upon Jesus’ life. It dove a little deeper into the life of Jesus & I love how I finished this study right on Good Friday. It allowed me to understand even more of all that Jesus did for us during his Earthly life and the sacrifice he made for all of the world.
“If God secured our greatest need through Christ’s death and resurrection, how can we assume He will be absent in the day-to-day? Our pain and tears may linger, but they are not eternal in the light of the resurrection. Our suffering may last for the night, but joy comes in the morning. One day we will be reunited with Christ, and all things will be made new. Even death will not be the end of our story because Jesus has removed the sting of death.”
