Leading Princess Kaylah to Seeder borders was only Rachel and Saff’s first step in stopping a never-ending war. The Ivy queen and king’s assassination leaves Prince Soren in sole control of their troops and resources.
Banding together, the Unitas group sets out to discover forgotten secrets to their pasts and powers. They work to discover how to cure the poisoned Seeder lands, as well as how to best infiltrate the Ivy palace, all while recruiting and training in secret.
Going undercover behind enemy lines, Rachel’s forced to face the trauma and betrayals in her past. Saff has to face the family she abandoned, come to terms with news about her unique power-wielding capacity and future, and learn to trust allies of the nation that has already taken too much from her family and people.
Tensions rise at the Unitas camp and safe houses, threatening their unity movement. Amidst kidnappings and mysterious disappearances, Unitas is forced to dig deep and take unexpected measures to bring the battle to Soren with hopes of a win.
J. Houser has spent most of her life in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Her second language is Polish and she uses neither her A.A.S. in Culinary Arts nor her B.S. in University Studies. Instead, she takes snippets of dreams and a lot of ‘what-ifs,’ and is feverishly working toward her goal of being a multi-genre hybrid author. She’s a firm lover of both Jane Austen and Stargate, and when writing is usually also snuggling with her spicy rescue fur-child, Sweetie.
Unitas: Trio is the third book in J. Houser's series about the Green Lands. The reader gets pulled back into the story with familiar characters, like Rachel, Saff, and Kaylah, and immediately realizes that the war is escalating. Kaylah develops a strategy to help Unitas, and sends Rachel and her trusted cousin, Guillen, on a mission through the "stunted" communities in the Ivy Kingdom. Rachel's feelings for Guillen grow as she spends more time with him, but will she be able to let down her guard enough to begin a relationship with him (and does he feel the same about her)? Unitas makes progress until someone goes missing. Will that person and the Unitas cause be saved in time? I enjoyed the book. I was swept up in some of the romance and drawn in when strategies were discussed. I recommend the book for young adults and experienced readers. Thank you, J. Houser, for a copy of your book in return for my honest review.
Ok so I loved books one and two and this book three, well I think it was the best of the three! The fight for a better Greenland continues as we follow Rachel, Saff, and Kaylah on their different journeys and hope for a better ending. There’s plenty of action and danger as we see the characters continue to grow and develop and deal with the struggles thrown their way, there’s twists and turns and secrets to have you on the edge of your seat and then there’s the friendships and relationships which are strong. The world building continues to enthral me as does the exciting and gripping storyline and I am anxious to read the final book!
Dear J, Kaylah requires her own book :p The book of Kaylah. It doesn't need to be long. It just needs to be 100% Kaylah... who lives forever :p Okay thanks.
I have read both the first two books and completely love them. This is an honest and voluntary review. Reviews are for readers - it's important that they be honest so that readers get a fair idea of what they are getting into before they start a book. It's also important that readers know they can trust my reviews. When I read something I really enjoy, I want the rest of the world to feel the way I feel at the end of the book! That won't happen if I'm not honest.
The lack of specific details is due to a desire to not let any spoilers slip - for any of the books :)
Unitas picks up right were book two (Trouble in the Green Lands) left off. This is great. I've seen books pick up in a completely different spot and act like nothing is missing. I much prefer a clear sense of continuity instead of being left to try and work out what I missed. Unitas introduces us to new characters, ideas, facts and really allows the reader to get a very clear idea of the Ivy side of the Green Lands. Readers also get to reconnect with characters from the first two books. There's a real sense of balance between familiar and new which results in a novel that really brings all the important elements of the first two books to a stunning conclusion. However, there is a book four and I can already tell that it's going to be completely excellent.
The plot is exciting and full of twists and turns. There were many times when I felt surprised, I didn't know we were going that way but I liked the change of direction. I maybe felt we were going left but no, we went right and it is exciting. Information is provided as needed. During the first reading, I wanted to know more. But now as I reread I am delighted by the little hints that I missed first time around.
All three books involve a certain amount of secrecy, mistrust and uncertainty due to the inclusion of spies, assassins, people in hiding for their own safety, and the people trying to get to the ones hiding. J. Houser knows exactly how to balance what is known and when to really add intrigue and intensity to the stories. When you can, I very strongly recommend that you obtain a copy of all three because once you start, you will not want to stop. You will not regret it.
It's not just reading a story, or three. In a fashion similar to The Neverending Story, it's getting picked up and taken away from reality and then taking a journey within the characters world. Something we all need - especially these days.
This story is fantasy fiction about Seeders and Ivies and much-hidden knowledge. The story contains some love interest and a little bit of YA steam, but nothing actually happens that is well described. The story does have a political plotline and gets gruesome in the main conflict, but it does end happily. There are so many amazing female characters to fall in love with within this story. The book itself and the entire series is definitely unique. I enjoyed the series and this book, even though it dragged on slightly.
This book contains a warning from the author about sensitive topics discussed and used in the storyline. Some of these items may be triggering to some people.
We begin this book with Kaylah; she is the Ivy Princess soon to be Queen from the last book. This book looks like it starts in the past before the previous book. However, it is interesting to see the other side of the story. I love the map the author has included with the story.
We time jump from the prologue to four years later. The Ivy king and Queen are dead, and Kaylah is on the Seeder side of the green lands. Rachel has been sent home. Saff, from the first book, is heading home as well. Time passes, but finally, we are moving with these heroines in a proper direction. I love how strong Rachel, Saff, and Kaylah are; they are unique and have such grace.
Rachel gets assigned a special mission with Guillen finally. We get a lot of day-to-day info with Rachel and Guillen. We occasionally check in with Kaylah, Saff, and Devin. Most of these books seem to be political and fantasy fiction. I'm glad we see some semblance of a truce between the Ivys and the Seeders. However, the author will surprise you with action, adventure, and spontaneous moments, including jumping around a little in the plot or time frames.
This book gets quite graphic as they fight for all green people's freedom. This book also includes a lot of political decisions and conflicts. I love the strong female characters in the book. This book ends; ideally, I could not have asked for a better ending and better coverage of all of our favorite characters. But watch out for a fourth book and a more thrilling plotline coming out. I could end the series here as it finally tied up all those loose ends.
I have been so lucky to receive an ARC copy of this book, which I can only say that I appreciate. I have read the first two books in this series and loved them. But I must admit this third book is by far my favorite. In this third book, we follow Rachel, Saff, and Kaylah through their fight for a better Greenland. They each have their different assignments and struggles. Rachel still has nightmares, she still feels like she doesn't really belong, and then her feelings towards Guillen. Rachel and Guillen are assigned their own mission, which is very interesting and we get to learn a lot of new things about the Ivies. Saff and Devin are still together, but they also have some struggles. Saff really matures throughout this book. Kaylah has a lot going on, but I love her character and how she and Eric are still going strong. This book really has it all. Love, friendship, action, and twist and turns so it is never boring.
I can definitely recommend reading this book, but to understand it, you will have to read the first two books - which are also both great written and full of action, love and friendship.
I actually went into this book a little sad it was the last in the trilogy, Because I realized I was going to miss hanging out with the characters I’d grown to love.
Book three in the Seeder Wars trilogy did not disappoint! Romance, intrigue and even more Green Lands secrets. (Seriously, where does the author come up with all of these interesting ideas? I’m in awe.) I was as engrossed in this installment as the previous two books.
The story continued to be strong and cohesive. The ending was satisfying and answered everything I was wanting it to. And even though it was the third book, there were still more pieces of the puzzle being put into place I hadn’t even realized were missing. The plot is undeniably well thought out and layered.
I’m definitely going to miss the characters, but I’m thrilled J. Houser has a few more books planned in this world. Maybe some of my favorites will show up. Time will tell.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Give it a chance; you won’t be disappointed!
(I received an ARC copy of this book and am leaving my honest opinion.)
This series is full of emotional damage I am not sure I will ever fully recover from. I lost track of how many times I wanted to throw this book across the room and I know I definitely yelled at it a lot.
Rachel, Saff and Kaylah work together to discover the lost secrets of their realm. Trying to find a way to stop Soren from taking over completely and to fix what was broken so long ago. One part espionage, one part mystery, one part adventure, one and a half parts romance, with a sprinkle of betrayal and "Oh my God no they didn't!".
I am in love with this series, the world is rich and the characters complex in many ways. Rachel's growth in this book particularly was amazing fo follow. She is my favorite character, and I rooted for her the whole way through. If certain things didn't go the way I hoped I would have been devastated. But here we are at five stars.
This is the end of the main trilogy but the story isn't over. Not sure my heart is ready for those just yet, but I will be reading them.
Robin’s Review: There are the “Seeders” and the “Ivies,” they have somewhat of a truce albeit shaky. But there are even more secrets, drama, action, and danger.
This is the third book in the Seeder Wars series. It’s a smart and entertaining book. It has a different take on dystopian world building. J. Houser has beautifully described the Green Lands, as lush and vibrant as a dystopian world can be. It’s amazing, and the characters are written with complexity, but are genuine and strong.
Thanks so much for a review copy of this book I received from the author through story origin. I am voluntarily leaving a review of my personal opinion.
The next in the series: The Heir of Exile (Seeder Wars Series Book 4) This title will be released on July 29, 2022.
After reading the first two books, I just HAD to have this one. It did not disappoint and was worth every cent. I seriously think J Houser is the next JK Rowling! She weaves such intricate detail into her stories and the plot is utterly captivating. As well as the adventure, romance, and extraordinarily relatable characters, J Houser has had the courage to tactfully tackle some pretty difficult themes such as racism, politics, and mental health. This series of books NEEDS to be picked up by Peter Jackson and put onto the big screen!
Amazing book! Absolutely love this trilogy! This book is by far my favorite! The villain is worse than umbridge in my opinion. The twists and turns are amazing. The writing is beautiful and I can't wait to see what else the author brings! This world and the characters are beautiful. The magic is unique and I will always recommend this book
Jan 28th I don't know that I could've asked for a better "last" installment. This book is the end of the original trilogy but not the official end of the series and it truly ties up all the right ends, while it opens all the right doors. This book had me on the edge of my seat for the majority of it. I wish I could say more about how great this book was but I have committed to spoiler-free reviews always. I will say again if you haven't picked up this series I highly recommend grabbing the whole trilogy. When you're as hooked as I am don't forget there's a sequel trilogy too!
This book had a satisfying ending and a story filled with action and intrigue. I never knew what was going to happen. The author gave us a new culture with a rich heritage. Finding out how it worked along with the characters made it that much more fun. I really enjoyed just how different the characters were and the premise of the story.
Following Rachel within the greenlands, and out of them as well as saff is quite an experience, you get alot more of the history behind alot in this book with I really love personally And very exciting and satisfying end to the trilogy
J. Houser does a really great job writing about grief and trauma and working towards healing and the struggles that it comes with. I enjoyed the ending and reading this series.
I have received an ARC copy of this book for an honest and voluntary review.
Wow! Where to start? Another great book wrapping up the central storyline in the third book of this series. J. Houser did it again. Transporting you into this amazing botanical world and answering so many questions that were prevalent from the first 2 books. What a great read. Highly recommend this book and the series. It has left me with wanting more.
