Dreadnought: Fear The Deep

Rate this book
Saw Ridge has always been a quiet town. A safe haven for tranquility. Until now. Nature’s wrath is about to be unleashed, not through high winds or crashing waves, but a carnivorous force intent on bloodshed.

Former Sheriff Dakota McCullough has retired and is living out his days on the shores of Saw Ridge. Beloved by the town, his presence casts a giant shadow over his successor and son, Glenn McCullough.

Their relationship is tested when strange occurrences plague the community. Mariners report a severe drop in fish populations; an entire pod of killer whales washes ashore, their flesh stripped from the bones; and a vacant fishing vessel is found adrift with strange markings on the hull.

When Glenn and Dakota investigate the matter, they learn the horrifying truth. Someone has been dumping toxic waste into the water and has inadvertently awakened a carnivorous beast from the depths. Long thought to be extinct, it is hellbent on killing. The largest, deadliest predator in the sea, it dreads naught.

Good sea monster story that remined me of the 1960s era "creature features" i used to watch on Saturday mornings back in the 80s.

Toxic waste dumping in the North Atlantic has wreaked havoc on the ecosystem robbing a prehistoric monster of its normal food supply so it decides to get even with the things that happened to disturb it, which happen to me humans.

A former small town sheriff and his son who happens to be the current sheriff team up with others to stop both the sea monster and the people whose dumping disturbed it. .

Awesome storyline

I always love a good monster book, and this one did not disappoint. It was easy to read, detailed without being odious, and characters were likable and relatable. I like that the squid was given personification, and you were given a glimpse of the anger and outrage the monster felt, and the realization that he wasn't really the villain of the piece.

Ammonia smell is never good news.
Well, this is Michael Cole doing what he does best, underwater creature horror. This is pretty much in line with his other stories, good characters, a touch of romance (eventually), the sea and the featured creature. Nothing unexpected, just a good, straightforward story, which is exactly what I wanted.

Jurassic Squid

Dreadnought: Fear The Deep by Michael Cole is a great creature feature. This one is a little longer then some of Coles other works but for good reason. The plot follows Sherif Glen and his father retired Sherif Dakota as they fight back against the thought to be extinct Dreadnought and investigate the cause of its reemergence. The plot flowed very well giving plenty attention not only to the creature feature aspect of this story but also the mystery. All of the characters were very well written. I could not say who my favorite character is in this one because I really liked the father and son aspect of Dakota and Glen and found them both to be two of my favorite characters written by Cole. All in all I would recommend Dreadnought: Fear the Deep by Michael Cole to anyone and everyone especially those who like creature features or mystery’s.

This is the kind of book I buy when I want something easy on the brain. I always enjoy creature features, and this author is great for something to pass the time with minimal thinking required. I bought this wanting to read about a giant squid going on a rampage in a small town and that's exactly what I got. Of course it's ridiculously goofy but it's also entertaining. Perfect fit for something to pass the time in a waiting room or at the DMV.

Dreadnought – Fear Of The Deep was another outstanding icky bug by Michael Cole. It was fast paced, gory, and full of plot twists. The narrative never dragged, and the solid third-person, past-tense writing was so easy to read. I had a great time right to the satisfying conclusion. I was able to close the book with a smile on my face. Highly recommended.

Terror below

Nice vacation turns into a fight for their lives. Has you on the edge of your seat one moment. And when you think you can relax out of left field comes more bad news.

Great Book

Really good story and believable! Nobody knows what creatures the ocean is hiding. Especially in the deep trenches that are nearly impossible to explore.

These are getting quite repetitive but, as my experience with John Saul can testify, an author writing the same book over and over can be very fun… until it isn’t any longer. I am still having fun but I would love to see something a bit different from Cole. More stuff like Hunt Through Tidal Valley, Z Level Ten, even Star Virus. These monsters from the ocean novels with the same characters and plot progression are becoming tiresome. The giant squid here might as well have been Scar or the shark from half of Cole’s other books. I enjoy monster novels, but the same one seems to be coming out a couple times a month and I feel the burn-out coming the way it did with zombies, vampires, or having sex with sunglasses on.
