It was a cold November afternoon when the unthinkable happens to Dr. Martin Mitchell, a physicist at a college in East Tennessee. A catastrophic solar flare begins hitting the earth. Predicted by NASA days before, the severity was not made public until it was too late. When the Emergency Alert finally aired, it created panic and chaos in the streets.
A small band of survivors and friends are plunged into darkness as the world around them devolves. Society collapses quicker than most had expected into a depraved lawless land filled with opportunists and gangs. As the small group realizes they cannot contact their families and friends, they join together to make their way out of the city and down the Tennessee River to save their own lives.
“The panic starts on day one, by day three your cabinets have no food, by day four police, firefighters, and other responders leave to be with their families...”
To make matters worse, a more alarming and impending death threatens the United States…. the meltdown of nuclear reactors as their backup diesel generators run dry. The group has only one hope; a pilgrimage of 1000 miles in 30 days to escape certain death.

Author's Warning: This book depicts the reality of what will happen when a severe solar storm destroys our electrical grid and society collapses. It does have graphic language and events. It is the end of the world… people don’t run around saying ‘shucks’ and ‘darn it’ and ‘shoot’. Some may find this book very disturbing.
When I turned the final page of this book, I was horrified by several things, none of which had anything at all to do with the story.
1. This book made it to publication; 2. People purchased it; 3. It has a FOUR STAR RATING.
I’m not sure which of the three statements listed above was most alarming, but I would have to say it’s #3. Four stars? This novel had more typos than words spelled correctly. Ok, that may be an exaggeration, but not by much. I seriously wanted to set myself on fire every time I encountered a misspelled word, incorrectly placed punctuation or improper word choices that would have been evident to an elementary school student. So four stars? Are we talking extended family ratings? Color me all kinds of confused.
Mr. Cooper, you have an interesting premise here, and it’s clear that you’ve done your research. I would suggest, however, that IF you have an editor, you fire them immediately. You’ve been conned. Allow me, then, to offer to you my services as a proofreader. If you pay me per correction, you might end up broke (and I’d be a very wealthy woman), but because I’m such a nice person, I am willing to correct this manuscript at no charge. Seriously. Call me.
Full of typos, spelling errors and grammatical errors. Plot lines left unfinished... Interesting concept but poorly executed. I was genuinely shocked to happen upon the ending out of nowhere.
The author did some research on CMEs and set up an interesting story with some solid characters that were together by chance when the event started. The nefarious government is a common factor in this type of story, but it seems like they could have held the Energy secretary in a sequestered place rather than murder him. The most notable thing about this book was the appalling editing. There was missing punctuation, some words with punctuation in them, rampant misspelling, completely wrong words used and problematic sentence structure, and a very glaring mistake of always spelling the military rank of COLONEL as COLONIAL. I can’t see how this was proofread even once, so the makings of a decent story was spoiled by the very careless execution of the writing. To top it off, the ending was abrupt and goes nowhere. There is no second book. The book cover was nice but don’t be fooled.
The author built a believable concept. He brought in great characters. However, he leaves you hanging without a real ending. Really it's a short story. I don't want say who but he killed off someone who should have stayed. He came close to having a good book but lost it at the ending.
This book did not paint a pretty picture of everyone working together and they lived happily ever after. Its daily trials and tribulations. Not all with. Happy endings. This to me is what it will be like. Author built the characters and showed how different and what principles you are willing to sacrifice to survive.
Lots of good story lines and info, nice asides on the bigger picture happening outside the main cast but so many typos I started highlighting them and then stopped.
Needs a bit more editing and I have no idea how the writer could do a sequel as it’s clear there’s nowhere good to go by the end
Probably the most realistic apocalyptic thing that could happen with no human prodding. I hope nothing like this happens but it's probably wishful thinking. Book kept me riveted and I'm ready to see what happens in the second book. This btw, is not a happy story but is very realistic.
I wasn't sure I was ready for another solar flare, society falling apart immediately story, but this book caught me in the first few pages. There is a great story line that's easy to follow, excellent character development, and lots of action. I highly recommend this book. But, its a bit scary, knowing this is actually possible.
The end is frustrating because the writer builds up these characters fairly well in your mind and you become invested in them. Then poof, apparently I’m tired of writing and it just ends. Enjoyed what there was of it but won’t recommend.
Trying to figure out life after a CME, on a river, in a trimaran…what could possibly go wrong?! What a great adventure….awesome characters and fast moving storyline. Just hope there is another chapter in the works. I’m not ready for the story to end!
This book should be read by all who support nuclear power. We are still and for the future dealing with the Japanese disaster. The story is well written and easy read.
This eotwawki takes place on sailboat. There are the usual bad elements, bad weather and no government. The locking thru at the dams is interesting. Waiting for book 2
Loved the characters! So many selfless acts of courage. Could hardly wait to turn the page to follow the evolving plot. Can not wait to read the next book!
If we were to be hit by something like this, I believe that society will collapse very fast. We should plan and be ready for a time when we are hit by something, it may just be a storm but be ready!
This was a great story with interesting characters. I liked the story because it wasn't the typical grid down story with the man stuck 600 miles from his family, having to find a way to get back home. Read this one, you won't be disappointed.
Solar flare erupts destroying all electronic devices and civilisations with it. Read about our little group escape to the river boat and start to travel to escape the gangs that set to take all they can
This is an incredible book. I fell in love with the characters and their resolve to survive under any circumstances! I would recommend this book to everyone!❤️❤️❤️
