I’m a Writer and picked this up as a resource for future books. I’m pleased with this decision.
The book is gorgeous. It has that charm of finding magic with lovely illustrations.
Be aware that cats and essential oils are not friends. Their livers cannot break down the oils. So if you diffuse something that is toxic to cats, like eucalyptus, you could make your cat very sick or worse. Be mindful of your pets when introducing plants and oils to their home.
I REALLY wanted to like this, but honestly... It just doesn't fit my personality, my environment, & my lifestyle. But that means it may be for you instead!
Really easy format. Cute illustrations (a little too cute for my taste, maybe - but quaint nonetheless). Good witch seasons 101 information.
My complaints are that while some ingredients are super-accessible, there are still quite a few that aren't. At least for me. & while I like that it's full of self-care & beauty recipes - I also can't imagine making all of them. It takes me forever to get through a bottle of lotion, so to have 5 different kinds laying around... & I've never really used body oils, which is her favorite thing, so... I'm sure I could transpose it to a lotion or something instead, but I'm lazy :P & the incense... I use oils & diffusers, but these incense charcoal disks - I've never heard of them before, so I wish there was a little less of that or some alternatives mentioned.
Again - all in all, it's a VERY easy read & has some useful info and nice ideas. But unfortunately, it won't be the most practical recipe book for me at this time.
Gorgeous book. If you're at all into essential oils and how to incorporate them in your craft, this is definitely the book for you. Sadly, that is not the case for me.
2.75 I didn't want to rate this book because it's for reference rather than reading. I got it because I wanted to learn more about plants and their uses relating to the sabbats. What I didn't expect was the overwhelming push for essential oils. I skipped 90% of the recipes because of this. A few self-care items is fine, but I was expecting teas and simmer pots. And sure self-care items like soap and lotion MINUS all the essential oils. Feels very MLM for her own products. There's a good bibliography in the back that I'll probably have to make use of.
Visually it's a very beautiful book - the design and illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. There is some good beginner-friendly information at the beginning, however I don't remember seeing a disclaimer about essential oils being toxic to pets, particularly cats. The recipes themselves are not very practical and there were only a couple of them that I actually wanted to try out. I really wanted to like this book and decided to give it some time before giving a review, but even months after reading it some of the author's claims inside it still leave a very bad taste in my mouth. It's one thing to acknowledge different relationship dynamics and well done for trying to promote inclusivity and awareness, but it's entirely different to bash your heterosexual readers about their sexuality claiming it's "outdated". I thought this was supposed to be a book about potions but it looks like it was targeted at a very specific audience which I'm clearly not part of. I intended to buy the author's oracle decks as well and after reading this I'm glad I did not. However, if you're not bothered by such things and you're in need of an eye pleasing, beginner friendly book, then by all means go ahead and get it.
I was a bit disappointed with this book and I really wanted to love it more. For me, a lot of the ingredients and blends require a lot of financial outlay and some expensive items e.g. expensive oils. While the book is pretty and focused on a pleasing design, a lot of pages had no page numbers as the design took presidence. This made it very difficult to navigate the book. I did however like that the author focused on inclusively and was gender inclusive outside or the usual binary.
While a beautiful book with some really great potions - it's about three times the length it needs to be just due to formating. I could see how it would be great to own if you don't have any basic reference books, but the first half of the book is just beginner stuff that's in every other book.
I want to like this book but the recipes seem slightly impractical. Where am I to find some of these very specific ingredients? I wish she had a list in the back of the book of ask the items listed to make it easier to access…
Absolutely incredible and informative book for my library! I will be trying out all recipes included for the Wheel of the Year! Author seems to be incredibly grounded/down to earth. Like speaking to an old friend, but through reading!
Love all the information this has to give and the fact that I know I will continue to reference back to this makes me soo happy to have bought this book!!! Thanks sooo much
This beautifully illustrated book is well organized, with easy to find information, and is deeply informed by the wheel of the year. Definitely a resource I'll turn to often.
This book is very beautifully designed. The structure is easy to follow, with context and basic recipes beginning the book and specific recipes at the end. Not everything connected with me, but the author didn’t sound too prescriptive about anything, which I really appreciated. I also GREATLY appreciated the sexuality and gender inclusivity. I’m always shocked by how many books like this are painfully heteronormative, so as a lesbian, it made my day to see non-straight love included in the spells. I haven’t tried many of the recipes yet, but a lot of them seem very easy and lovely. I really connect with the cycle of the seasons, so I’m looking forward to referencing this book throughout the year and making the seasonal recipes (especially love the hair/skin ones!). This is a great resource.
Interesting…lots of fun recipes for things like teas, bath and body creams and sprays, bath salts, potpourri, incense, and all kinds of other fun things organized by time of year. I’m going to try some!
Für Menschen, die sich für ätherische Öle interessieren, bestimmt interessant. Für mich persönlich weniger was. Aber wunderschön gestaltet und geschrieben.
Very beginner friendly, and super easy to follow! I also appreciated that she discusses closed practices and sustainability. Will definitely be keeping this book as a handy reference.
