Over the summer, between sophomore and junior year, Jade and her werewolf pack family rescue Pebble, a five-year-old girl from the foster care system in Illinois. They worry, after her family was found dead by the side of the interstate, that they may have been attacked by a rogue werewolf. After bringing her home, small animals, and then people around town start to turn up dead.
Stolzburg has a rogue werewolf and the alphas have made it clear that Jade and friends need to stay safe. Just because Jade is avoiding the danger, doesn’t mean it’s avoiding her.
I love urban fantasy! I’ve read all the popular YA books and they have NOTHING on this series. The writing is imaginative and kept me interested the whole way. I liked all the characters. I loved the strong female presence. Rock on! I think these books will have something for everyone.
This was quite a read. I was on pins and needles trying to find out what was going to happen. This Book literally kept me on the edge of my seat. Wow!!!!
Since the basics of werewolf life has been tackled in book one, book two obviously needs to venture out and touch on the community.
The beauty of this series is that there are so many angles the author could focus on and still have a good source of story to pad the novel. In book 2 there’s a new addition to the friendship group, a new pack member, the main character finding more about her abilities, new relationships blossom and maybe broken? Fun times in the pack house.
PS I looked my doggies in their eyeballs to check our dominance 🤣 I guess I’m their alpha. My cat on the other hand… 🙄
Great follow up book of Wolf Healer for the series! I love how everyone in the book seems to be super accepting and make it a welcoming story to read. Im definitely loving the strong female characters! Very well written book!
Once again, we have a delightful story featuring Jade Stone, an intelligent and strong female lead with side-servings of teen snark and caring friend in equal measure. In this second installment, Jade & company face a new threat and encounter a mystery with a dangerous twist. The stakes are no less than their lives and the possible revelation of the secret werewolf world. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an urban fantasy with grit but w/o graphic violence. If you like fantasy/paranormal stories with werewolves that promote family and friend relationships instead of resorting to the typical romantic subplot, then Epsilon is for you.
This is an excellent follow up to the first book (Wolf Healer). Jade and her family are super relatable, for all that they're werewolves, and seeing Jade grow and evolve as she comes into even more powers is exciting. Though somewhat dark at times, Rahr manages to keep the narrative peppered with humor so it doesn't get depressing. I laughed out loud several times. I loved the unexpected ending and I'm really excited for book 3 to come out. It's also nice to see realistic LGBTQ representation in YA books.
An excellent sequel. Great pacing to the story, it pulls you in and keeps you reading more. I loved the addition of Pebble. Jade continues to be a fantastic character, and a positive lesbian representation. Her new powers are really fascinating, and I hope she finds a way to control her drain of energy. I didn’t see Sarah and Owen ending up together, so that was a thing. Poor Bevin deserves a man who loves all of him. I finished this book and immediately wanted to start the next one!
Very enjoyable action oriented read! Never a dull moment.
I'm really enjoying this series! It's a little pulpy, which I happen to love, and fairly easy to read as it progresses quickly as the story unfolds, so great pacing and never boring. Great focus on character development, and it's a large cast but easy to keep track of. Representation is awesome! It's very PG on the romance, with essentially no sexual tension, which is fine for YA books even though that's fairly unrealistic for this age group irl, though, I've only just finished book two so we'll see how all that progresses. Definitely some death and gore and discussions/scenes containing child abuse, which, unlike implying 100% consensual sexual contact/desire, is totally okay in teen fiction, lol. But I'll for sure be following this author, I have no major complaints about this book. I will say that if I had to suggest something, I'd suggest more focus on developing relationships between characters. I feel like each character is well developed individually, but their relationships have to be taken at face value, we're expected to believe the relationships between the friends, siblings, and romantic duos are what we're told they are, without really getting to see that demonstrated. Example: what happens with TJ and his sister I forget her name, Candace or something, that is meant to be this really emotionally impactful thing for our main character, like a huge deal, but we never really saw her interact with them, she just thinks of them a couple times, explains the connection, then when things go down it's way less emotionally impactful for the reader than it could have been had we seen the genuine connection they shared before things changed. The main character clearly has PTSD over this throughout this book, but it's hard to really feel it because as a reader, I had no feelings about her relationship with those characters to begin with. Inserting a few slice of life scenes that demonstrate the feel and importance of each relationship as unique would go a long way. Still, for what I expected and wanted out of this book/series, five full stars. I think my favorite part is the main character learning about her abilities, because they are an interesting take on this genre/trope.
A new sister for Jade? Yep! And she's an adorable little Pebble. You'll want to put her in your pocket to save and admire later.
A new friend is added to the group as well - a new love-interest for one of Jade's friends.
But, there also seems to be a serial killer on the loose, messing with the new found-family dynamics! Rogues seems to think they are outside and above the hierarchy of alphas and the law, but there can only be one Epsilon.
It's a good thing Dad has had everyone training for this!
And Huckleberry Rahr has trained my brain to want more of the exciting Jade Chronicles.
*No spoilers* Welcome to the next year of high school for Jade, Sarah, Bevin, Piper, family, and a couple of new characters. Jade's adventure last year left her with new abilities and this year, those abilities take a turn to help her solve the mystery of a rogue werewolf.
Epsilon was a clever twist on powers and title. I strongly suggest you don't skip out on reading the second book in this series. The character development and ability development of Jade alone will keep you enthralled as this cast of characters continues protecting the pack and friends.
It was so nice catching up with Jade and her friends again - they have such a welcoming attitude to accept people as they are. I did foresee the psychopath, but thought the twist was going to go the other way. Definitely a good read!
So I liked this story much better than the first one simply because I think it was a much better structured story. I still like the MC and her friends and her mother and the addition of Pebble.
This is a good reading continuation of Jade’s story, successfully pulling me further into this series. Well paced plot and character development keep the pages flying by. On to the next.
This series has all of my favorite genres in one. LGBTQ+, Shifters with a bit of other magical abilities. It is not obvious in the first book about everything, but it builds as it goes along. I love the dynamic of the characters in the book, their friend group is awesome, and the way they are written you get an amazing picture of them.
In this book, Jade is still learning about her own abilities, when they find out about Pebble, and the family goes to rescue her. The events that unfold from Pebble's past, that intertwine with their lives, becomes a riveting and nail-biting experience, I felt bad for the characters that pulled into the craziness, but I think in the end it helped them all to be prepared for anything.
Another page-turner! It has been a pleasure to spend another week with Jade and her extended family. It was good to read of clear communication (I am weary of reading why people "have" to lie to each other) and loyal relationships. - There are many active characters (potential spin-offs?), beyond her besties, in the story but it is not necessary to know exactly how they are all related to Jade (introduced in Book 1) all you need to know is that they are members of the same pack i.e., family.
The wolf/panther thing is such a neat trip into a rich fantasy. I am grateful to have such a place to visit. :-)
Huckleberry draws you in again with her second installment. Great pacing and characters… insert spoiler screaming here (nah I won’t do that to you)…. my only complaint is that it’s “only” 300 some pages! Moar Plz!!!
