Someone is on the prowl, someone is on the hunt, searching for the vulnerable, for the ones who drop their guard. Over three nights, three attacks take place in quick succession and Lasser and the team are tasked with catching the culprit before they can strike again. Yet the attacker seems to have the luck of the devil on their side, managing to avoid capture and all the time the need that drives them is increasing, forcing them to higher stakes in an effort to quell their twisted desires. Yet not all is as it seems and soon Lasser finds himself in a maelstrom of confusion and violence, and when the first body is found they know that the killer is hell bent on carnage. The question is can they navigate the mind of a killer before they strike again?
Rob Roughley lives in the North West of England (God's coal bunker, the land of the wedding cake made by placing three meat pies on top of one another and whippets on lengths of string) He is the author of eight crime/thriller novels featuring DS Lasser. The novels are set between the run down streets of a northern town and the beautiful yet desolate west Pennine moors. If you love your crime fiction crammed with square jawed heroes driving flash cars and glorious women who shimmer with inner light, then the DS Lasser novels are not for you. However, if you prefer your characters to be flawed, with a sprinkling of dandruff and old acne scars, the plots to be laced with dark humour, then give them a try. 1 The Needle House 2 The Way that it Falls 3 Tethered to the Dead. 4 Twisted Coming soon: 5 More Equal than Others 6 Vanished Beneath 7 Riven 8 Bad Self
Robin Roughley has done it again! The Lasser books just keep getting better. The mystery kept me reading all night. The plot was excellent. The team of detectives is among the best. The ending was a shocker. I can’t wait for the next one. One thing I want to know, does it really rain that much in Wigan?
As usual from Roughley another cracker of a story involving Lasser & the team. I have read all of these books and this must be one of the best! Not stop all action that you literally cannot put down. From the final page I guess we have another excellent read on the way, hurry please!
I absolutely love this series, all the characters are likeable except PC Black, who is just a waste of space!
When women are being attacked at night, and from behind, these are no clues as to who it may be, and with the continual rain, all forensic evidence is non existent. No one sees anything, as it appears the attacks are not covered by cctv and frustration builds in the team.
The attacks are becoming more violent and women are afraid to go out.
Lasser and Bannister are working round the clock, but not seeming to get anywhere. Then a team from Manchester are drafted in, and with the additional help they get a breakthrough. However, the ending has a very clever twist, which I didn’t seem coming at all.
A sexual predator/killer is out and about town. Is it one? Is it two of them? Women are attacked. Two of them are killed. The police is trying to find the man/men who are terrorizing women. They aren't successful for almost 500 pages. Then they get the guy(?). That last one page, where the supposed twist happens, kills what was already dead for the entirety of the book. Oh, it bloody rains throughout the whole book and that's all you need to know. How on earth this dud gets stellar reviews really escapes me.
Another Lasser , what could be better. Great to meet all the team and families once more. Even good to travel around Wigan in pursuit of the villains . Good plot line . So why only three stars . OMG the rain tedious rain ,rain on the roof f ,rain on the car roof , rain clouds ,rain wetting everyone rain on the windowa , rain on the wind screen .There were 220 references to rain in this book . A good story spoiled by too much rain.
A killer on the loose or is there two ?The team work together well and Bannisters attitude gets everyone motivated and the banter between Lasser and Bannister always very critic . Great storyline and tense ,always a great read . This is the second time i have read this series and enjoyed everyone ,just a shame Mr Roughley is unwell and wish him to get well soon .
I just love Lasser books ,I enjoy the characters & the storylines .Robin Roughly certainly has his books down to a fine art .The people & the patter between them is good .I won't say anything about the plot as I don't want to spoil any it for you⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Well you have done it again Robin Roughley an absolutely brilliant read from start to finish five stars plus I don't know how you do but please keep D'S Lasser series coming
Once again another breath taking book, never a minute when I want to put Robin's books down. My favourite author and he never disappoints. Great characters as always this one had me racing to the end as the storyline was so gripping. Keep em coming.
Lasser, Bannister and the Team are out for there 29th Adventure. A Brilliant Fast moving Story. The rain soaked streets of Wigan have another Murderer on the loose and The team have to Get him before He Strikes Again
This is my first read of a Robin Roughly story and it started slow and disturbing. Things sped up but as a result of info received rather than detective work. The last chapter is odd? What was that about. Perhaps read the next to find out?
As per all Lasser series I was unable to put this one down.. A real surprising twist at the end. Love the team and banter and introduction to new member Almond to the team..
The urge to strangle overwhelms and controls his mind. But are they looking for one or two. So many shadows and no leads makes for a long agonizing read. Will you be satisfied with the ending? Only the shadow knows.
Absolutely brilliant, number 29 in the series and I am still engrossed from first page to last.Wonderful characters and great storyline roll on number 30.
Good old Robin you have done it again. Every book you write is amazing. I love this series I feel like one of the family. Can’t wait for the next book .
My first book of the series (I know, I shouldn't have started with book 29) and it's excellent. No clues, no leads and not knowing if a break would come. It kept me up trying to finish
Brilliant, couldn't read fast enough near the end. Loved the suspense and the investigation doubts. I've read the whole Lasser series now. Mr. Roughley, we want more, we want more!
Another great Lasser story! The ending was Hella good, setting up for the next book. I'm glad the girls are still in the story. I still want Lasser and Odette to get together! Can't wait for the next book!!!
