What was it about Tyler, fucking, Montgomery? What was it, except the fact that he had been West’s first crush and first kiss and first heartbreak?
Alpha Tyler Montgomery has taken the role of a lifetime. His newest movie is huge, his picture is everywhere. He should bask in his success, but instead, it all made him take a closer look at his life. He realizes he has to make amends to those he hurt in his past to turn his life around. When he returns home to Arbor Cove to do so, Tyler finds someone who brings the spark back into his life, but pretty West is not interested.
Beta West Starling has no interest in being Tyler’s page six hook-up and loves nothing more than to rile him up on social media. But Tyler seems to be suddenly everywhere West goes and is determined to make West take him up on whatever he’s offering. But West’s been there and done that and he has the broken heart to prove it too. And if he tells himself that often enough, he might believe it, because maybe Tyler isn’t as bad as his reputation.
As they navigate a possible relationship, Tyler’s demons come back to haunt him and he’s forced to look even further into himself to see how toxic his life really is. Will it be too much for West or will they make it out stronger together?
Writer of (queer) fiction and sometimes artist. Lover of books, baked goods, plants, art and tentacled things. Enjoys a bit of horror too. Gives away review copies (ebooks only).
There are SO many characters introduced right away, with no context to who they are. The opening scene doesn’t make any sense: why a car crash? Tyler is in love with the guy? But then fucks around with his younger brother afterward? Is it a younger brother? There’s too many characters to be able to tell.
New scenes are also done in a way where you have no idea what is going on. There are scenes where you think this is happening currently based on the level of detail, but nope, turns out it was a nightmare.
It’s rough and needs way more context and details and better ways of delivering the story. I made it to about 35% and decided it was too rough to get though. Which is too bad because the premise seemed interesting.
I enjoyed this book a lot. Tyler and West are just so soft for each other once they figure out they want to give a relationship a go and can’t not root for them. And I appreciate that the book doesn’t stop with them being together but shows the reader how they make it work, how they support each other and each other’s careers.
This book is spicy too and the characters are witty and fun.
It’s set in a soft A/B/O verse that doesn’t dominate the story.
Quote: He made himself let go of the sheets and grabbed for Tyler’s head, getting a good grip and tugging sharply.
“Shit,” Tyler hissed, but he was grinning.
“Stop playing, fuck me,” West said.
“Your wish is my command.”
“Only if it suits you, it seems,” he huffed.
Tyler laughed, and it made West’s body flush all over with warmth.
