First there was Him. He was my rock, my life's navigator – my everything. I shut my eyes for Just. One. Moment. When I wake there's nothing but cold. Pebbled asphalt abrades my skin. The rain is cool on my flesh – washing the blood away; my husband's death. The pregnancy he never knew about. Then there was Her. My savior is unrefined. Temperamental. Strong. Deliberate. And... beautiful. My husband is gone. I don't want anyone to replace him. I don't need anyone else. Except Her.

DNF @ 45% - The author, whose bio says she is married to a man, has a bizarre fixation on 🍆 in 🌮 being the only act to apply the term s3x too. 🖐 or 👅 don't count. Until the butch MC whips out her str@p they have not had official s3x. As a wlw, I find it super offensive.
I am bummed because I was enjoying the story and the writing style but I just can't with her basically invalidating how wlw conduct their intimate lives. If a woman goes ⬇️ on u, guess what? YOU GUYS JUST HAD S3X. FFS! Ugh.
sorry for the character/word replacements but I think GR is suppressing my review because of the "naughty" words I was using. 🙄
I can usually at least 'see' why people may like something, but this? It's so absurd, it's not even funny. The deliberately "politically incorrect" blue talk between the cops is one thing that's already damn awkward - but the insane INSTA attraction felt by BOTH women in the midst of devastating tragedy and loss, is just bizarre.
Within weeks and TWO minute-long meetings, they are feeling connections, and the gruff talk by the butch cop character, about the 'little femme woman' being so petite and wanting to protect her, and take care of her - made my stomach roil.
Seriously, how could anyone read this tripe?
It read like a cis-man writing how he thinks a pally lesbian would act. Disgusted, honestly. This is toxic bullshit.
Rebecca is on a date night with her husband and with big news to tell him. It is their anniversary. Then tragedy. Their car slides on black ice and her beloved husband James is gone. At the accident scene as she lay injured on the road, a cop arrives and immediately comforts her. Her name is Mac. Mac feels undeniable chemistry with Becca and can't let it go. Are they soul mates? What a terrible time to get the feels for someone when their husband has passed away. Mac is one very tough cop, six-feet tall, and strong. She has to be strong as she is gay. But also female and a cop. A secret. Feelings. A vicious jealous male cop. Beaten by a woman. In many things. Beatings. Horror. A bad seed. This book was utterly fabulous and I feel one of the best this author has ever written. Many kudos to her.
The plot of the story was good but for some reason I had a problem with the whole thing about that if Mac didn't have sex with strapon it would not be complete. Laura telling Rebecca that if they didn't deal with that the relationship would not be missing something. I am a lesbian and have been in relationships and have never used a strap-on, the sex was great. I then read that the author has a husband and kids and said ok that explains it. The author is straight and thinks that women has to have a dildo to be complete.
I never heard of this author and just stumbled over HER while looking for f/f romance. I like it dark from time to time and this was the finest dark romance! Loved the characters, loved the plot. I absolutely loved the protectiveness of Mac right from the start! She is a tough cop with a heart full of marshmallow feelings towards the poor woman laying on the concrete after an awful accident and tremendous loss. She will hold and protect her. She has to! It was chemistry right from the first glance although it’s highly inappropriate. But they don’t stand a chance. Rebecca needs HER just as much! Loved it!
Had high hope given the interesting synopsis. Alas it fell short and at some point I just can’t continue any further given how the plot unravel. The romance just felt off and I can't wrap my head around it.
To be honest, I didn't know what to expect when I began reading this story. However, I was immediately drawn in by the characters - the heartbreaking pain Rebecca must push herself to be strong after a tragedy that meant the end of everything she knew, and the amazing strength of Mac as she overcomes her own ghosts to be what Rebecca needs. This is a hesitant love story between two people who should have never been together, and the passionate intensity and fear that comes from both sides of the coin are palpable from the moment they meet to the harrowing pain both of them must overcome as they face the horrifying villain of the story. The journey they begin could shatter them completely or heal them in ways neither of them ever expected. And the prize is more than they could know.
This author knows what it takes to bring the reader into the emotional worlds of her imagination. I'm always surprised at the way she can take a proven formula and tip it on its side just enough to throw off the reader and keep us scrambling to return to that path, only to discover the direction has changed. She is a master of mystery, emotions, and intimacy, and even when pieces of the story affect me in disturbing ways, I never regret the journey she takes me on and always find satisfaction in the ending even when that ending is unexpected. Bravo!
Quite frankly, I enjoyed this book more than I expected, simply because it was so much more than the average romance novel. While it is a very interesting love story between two mismatched lovers, drawn together by one’s current tragedy and later seriously threatened by the other’s past trauma. It is obviously a romance. The eventual HEA following many trials, both personal and dangerous. However, what separates this novel from others is that it is a manifesto against the violence perpetrated against women since MAN could creates myths about MAN-kinds origins. Supported by the GoodBook women have been suppressed since the dawn of time. Why, because a male prophet created a world in which all evil came to be, because a curious woman a some juicy fruit. As a result, women have born the brunt of man’s violence, often rooted in a psychology so convoluted that it is often placated by expressions of violence against “the weaker sex”. 93%of interpersonal violence is committed by men against women, and often justified by the Bible… again, a collection of books written by men. This novel deals very intelligently with this sad fact. One last observation about our weaker sex. It is my contention that, if men had to physically be the bearer of babies, mankind would have been extinct about 20 years after Adam and Eve got kicked out of the garden by a MAN ! I look forward to reading another of Ms. Eros’ novels.
This story had elements I love - butch MC, protective, insta-lust, simple plot without too many side plots or characters. However, the writing was odd. I felt the MC could've easily passed as a man given the way she talked, and I'm wondering if the author has never written a masculine of centre lesbian before. I also couldn't help but notice that every single character thought the same way; same slang, tone, etc. Hot sex, great chemistry, but the whole idea of penetrative sex with someone who clearly stated that that was a hard NO but still gets pushed, prodded, coerced until they cave... NO. Not cool.
Side note: why is a hard butch COP, on duty, no less, wearing a thong??? Bizarre.
Her had a sweet HEA, and the two women did communicate, for the most part, and the un-coerced sex was hot.
“Rory loves his wife and kids. That's established. Ignoring him, I go on, ‘And there's this person you meet—‘ ‘Dude or chick?’ I make a slicing gesture between us with a stiff palm. ‘Doesn't matter.’ ‘Does.’ ‘Listen.’ ‘Fuck, fine. Hate this ‘what if’ talk.’ I glance at him. ‘Humor me.’ My attention shifts back to the road. His silence is answer. ‘Anyway,’ I continue, ‘you meet someone who makes the moment pause. Your life seems to grind to a halt simply because they're existing in the same space you are.’ ‘That's pretty fucking deep.’ The fingers of my left hand tighten on the steering wheel. God damn. ‘All right. Lay it on me.’ Rory settles back against his seat, and after a pissed-off pause, I continue, ‘And you know’—I touch my chest above my heart—‘you just know, that they might be the one.’ ‘Holy Christ,’ Rory mutters, scrubbing a palm over his face.”
What an interesting and awesome read. This had heat unlike any book I have read. First it was dripping off of Officer Mac Flint as she was taken with a car accident victim barely alive, who husband was dead right near her. The need to protect this woman first from seeing him but then from the pain and tears she was feeling, had Mac holding her close to her. From this scene onwards the story takes you through some very intense moments causing the reader to not put this book down. This is a must read and my first book with this writer. I might have to check her out.
I loved alot of things about this book. Especially the butch/femme dynamics., I agree with other reviewers though that 1) odd that a pretty hard core butch would wear thongs ... I suppose if they work out and really like showing off their glutes ... who am I to judge. And [spoiler alert !!!] 2) yeah that penetration should not be the be all and end all of what completes a healthy sexual relationship. It was good that the MC ended up having a positive experience and magically overcame her trauma resulting in a fairy tale ending ... but it was something she specifically said no to. The stunt pulled by her lover really rubbed me the wrong way. I knocked a star off for that.

Not just a Lesbian love story It’s more than just a story about 2 women falling in love, it’s a second chance at love story, and the parties just happen to be 2 women. It’s also a story of love finding you when you aren’t looking, and of not choosing who you fall in love with. There are some dark parts, but the ending more than makes up for them. If you are a fan of Marata Eros you will love this story.
Like the story. An age gap about six years difference. Yes, this is a f/f but the love scenes are ok seemed a little rushed. If you don't like to read about sexual assault then don't read this book. Rebecca is a strong woman after losing her husband and just want to keep her baby. Mac is a police officer that is trying to forget her past and move forward. Falling for Becca is the best thing for both of them.
That was heart wrenching and beautiful with a bit of everything, Action, love, tragedy.
The development of Becca and Mac is at many times erotic and playful and entirely loving and trusting. Their chemistry is off the charts and as their trust grows so do their hearts.
All up a really great story. Classic Marata Eros. Great back story, brilliant characters and Of course the impeccable villain is present and accounted for and he’s a monster.
Not your average love story. Two extremely opposite people do not have a "cute-meet" but a tragic one. This meeting sets up many awkward but interesting future meets. The clash of their different life styles makes this story a little more unique than the average lesbian story. To start with one of them is a "hetro" not a lesbian. Your heart is twisted and broken a few times throughout the story. You'll laugh and cry your way through this great read.
This book was intense right out the gates! Mac and Becca meet at an unfortunate time, but some things can't be helped. Their connection, their passion... it was undeniable. However, there was so much more to the story than just a simple romance. Very suspenseful and thrilling.
With that being said, there are some ***Trigger Warnings - violence, discussion of past rape, attempted SA, etc. The story was good, but some sensitive material throughout.
A wild ride. I am not sure if everyone is ready for the Eros take on life but she writes so well and I am an older dude looking back across a span of wives and women and the idea that such a theme might shake me up long disappeared into my checkered history. Read it and enjoy the joy she brings to her work.
Heartache is having your husband die in a tragic accident. Rebecca is broken, and the only thing keeping her together is the new infatuation she finds with Mac. Mac is a beast when it comes to protecting someone she loves. Rebecca is a little older than Mac, and she is head over heels in love. A tragic beginning turns to a beautiful love story.

This is my first time reading anything by this author. I am so glad I did. What a beautifully written story. Now I have to go on the hunt to find other titles she's written.
First book I've read from this author and I can't wait to read more. Becca and Mac were amazing and I hope one day to have that kind of love. Off to find more of her books.
Gave it a 5 because I loved the characters. The story was loaded with horrible things happening. But at least it had a HEA. Get the books and leave your reviews.
Horrible start to a great love story, the drama and gruesome storyline with a corrupt office, I could have don't with out. But that's part of story telling sometimes... I can do without the bad.
This is by far the absolute BEST non smutty book I have read in many, many years!! Had me cheering and yelling out in distress during the last few chapters!! Big, big thanks to the author for writing such a wonderful book.
This novel is more than a love story. It’s a tragic ending at the beginning, love at first sight, coming to terms with loss and new beginnings. Throw in past trauma and a bad cop wanting vengeance and I couldn’t put this book down.
