When a traveling theater troupe begins rehearsals for The Wizard of Oz at Bryce Beach’s new playhouse on the boardwalk, the actress playing Glinda the Good Witch turns up dead. Amateur sleuth and theater aficionado Sunshine Baker immediately springs into action to solve the mystery.
But one cast member has a habit of turning up where she isn't supposed to be, and running when she's wanted for questioning. Sunshine has a hunch this actress--the victim's understudy--is their prime suspect.
Will this mysterious castmate turn out to be a good witch...or a bad witch? And if Sunshine follows the yellow brick road of clues...will it lead her to the murderer?
Panic at the Playhouse is the eighth book in the Dangerous Curves cozy Christian mystery series, set in the fictional small town of Bryce Beach. K.L. Montgomery writes #bodypositive sweet romance and romcom. A librarian in a former life, she now works as an editor and runs the 5000-member Indie Author Support group on Facebook in addition to publishing under two names.
Though she remains a Hoosier at heart, K.L. shares her coastal Delaware home with some furry creatures and her husband, who is on the furry side as well. She has an undying love for her three sons, Broadway musicals, the beach, Seinfeld, the color teal, IU basketball, paisleys, and dark chocolate.
I received this book as an ARC. As with any ARC I never issue spoilers as I feel that is unfair to readers. I have read several books by K. L. Montgomery, she is an author that draws her reader in from the beginning and her books have not disappointment me yet. Panic in the Playhouse is a fun and quick mystery read. It full of twists and turns and excitement. It is well balanced that it pulls you into the characters and lets you want to know more. With that said, I hope Sunshine and Vincent make an appearance in an upcoming book.

Panic at the Playhouse is the latest of the Dangerous Curves series by K.L. Montgomery. It is also the lead in for Ms. Montgomery’s next great cozy mystery series, the Musical Murder Mysteries. This book was another home run for Ms. Montgomery. I love Sunshine and all the mysteries at Bryce Beach that she works to solve. This quick weekend read is no different. The story moves at a good pace while keeping to the rhythm that we are used to in all the previous stories. I truly hope this is not the end of Sunshine’s adventure while at the same time I am looking forward to the Musical Murder Mystery Series.

The Mayor asked Sunshine Baker, the town librarian and amateur detective, to give a speech at the ribbon-cutting for the re-envisioned performing arts venue, the Bryce Beach Playhouse. She announced that the Melody Street Players, a traveling theater troupe, will start the season with The Wizard of Oz.
But when an unidentified body is found at Lighthouse Park, Sunshine waited to hear from Vincent whether it was a stranger or the missing actress playing Glinda the Good Witch, Celeste Downing. Unfortunately, it is Celeste who turns up dead. Sunshine is ready to investigate! With Ruby, Celeste’s understudy, acting strangely and avoiding questioning, it seems she could be the prime suspect and the most likely place to start the search for the murderer. Will Sunshine get the killer?
With great pacing and memorable characters, the story line pulls the reader in for an exciting adventure as Sunshine jumps into the thick of things. Grab your copy and enjoy her enthusiastic search for justice.

This is such a good, cute read. I have fallen down the rabbit hole with this series, despite being a huge fan of cozy mysteries in general. The whole difference with this series, is the character work - I adore Sunshine with her kooky name, clumsy nature and big heart, her gang of small town librarian friends, teen helpers and cute love interest. The stories always remain light hearted, and this one in particular hooked me with the travelling theatre troupe. Excellent time was had reading this one.
Sunshine the amateur sleuth is back and this time, there’s been a murder at the brand new playhouse. A traveling performer is dead and the suspect is a slippery actress - but is she the guilty one? I enjoyed this cozy mystery and have read several from this series. They are always a fun, easy read that provides a nice escape into mystery without being gory. Think of Sunshine as an adult version of Nancy Drew, complete with a cast of friends and family that alternately help and infuriate our heroine.
Theater can be murder in the small town of Bryce Beach!!!

Sunshine Baker is the town’s mystery solver. This time there is a famous theatre group playing in town. But as always there is a mystery happening. Who has done it and why. It is neatly plotted and a warm group of friends is supporting each other. Working as a librarian Sunshine meets a lot of people and hears a lot of information. Will she solve this mystery??? You will have to read it. Great story.
As usual, Montgomery's stories never disappoint. I thoroughly enjoy the Dangerous Curves series because they short, fun-filled, cute stories with mystery and just a splash of romance thrown in. Her characters have continued to grow, and each new story is unique. These books are some of my favorite to grab as a quick read, especially between some of my more serious, darker choices. They just lighten the mood, make you smile, and give you a breath of fresh air. I absolutely love them.
Panic at the Playhouse: A Cozy Christian Mystery by K. L. Montgomery is the latest in Sunshine Baker’s story and it was absolutely delightful! I couldn’t put it down! A musical troupe is at the newly renovated theater in town and Sunshine was invited you the Mayor to give a speech and meet the actors when they arrive. When one actress is found dead later Sunshine feels it’s her duty to help the police and her love interest the Chief to find out who done it!
Oh, Sunshine, once again you did not disappoint! I’m so sad this series is ending because I thoroughly enjoyed all her investigations with her boyfriend, Vincent, and all her family and friends. In the end, he FINALLY said the words to her ❤️.
Looking forward to the next series with Ruby Ecco. Hopefully she will be just as lovable as Sunshine.
Thank you K.L. Montgomery for writing this series!!!
I really enjoy each visit to Bryce Beach with Sunshine and her friends. The characters are well written and the mystery had plenty of twists for this quick read. I received a complimentary copy from BookSprout and this is my honest opinion.
