The Definitive Guide for Getting Unstuck & Waking Up
Have you ever wondered, “Why am I still stuck despite all the inner work I’ve done?” Do you feel trapped repeating the same cycles and stories over and over again, no matter what you heal or fix? Are you looking to learn the truth about who you are beyond your struggle and success? Is there a challenge or plateau you’re trying to overcome that isn’t responding to conventional methods?
Awaken to Your True Self is a practical guide on transformation, embodiment, and shadow work. It integrates holistic perspectives from somatic therapy, mindfulness, and spirituality to help you get unstuck. Andrew Daniel grounds timeless spiritual truth in approaches and exercises that help where traditional self-help fails. These approaches defy conventional advice—and that’s exactly why they work when nothing else does.

This book has more value in each paragraph than in most self-help books. This was not an effortless read, not because the writing was bad, it was great, but because each chapter forced me to grow. Yes, it's confronting like other say, but in the best ways. We read these to grow and learn, not to be told what we want to hear, right?
Don’t get this if you’re looking for some motivational read. Get this book if you’re serious about getting unstuck and becoming enlightened. It is very easy language and not pretentious in religious dogma. This book is right up there with Eckhart Tolle or Tony Robbins.
I am DNFing this book. Not only do I find it repetitive and dull, but I cannot read a book that makes a joke of chronic illness and essentially says it’s not real. Chronic and invisible illnesses can and do define my life. Some things can be fixed, yes. Some things are about your world view, but you can’t tell me that severe pain doesn’t inhibit my ability to function. Changing my perception of it doesn’t stop it from happening.
Brilliant scope of topics covered. For people who have advanced knowledge on self development and are not seeing the progress they expected. Could have been written with better synthesis, in my opinion, some points went on for long I lost perspective of what book aims to reveal. Very good summary at the end of book.
In a sentence, for me this book helped skip over the fluff of the self help genre and hold a dirty but honest mirror up to the ways I've been avoiding the 'real work'.
This is the one book that I want to recommend to everyone I know, but probably won't because it requires a level of accountability and honesty with self that only comes with some level of psychological or spiritual education that most people don't purposely seek out. For example, most people aren't ready to realize that even if your ex was an abusive diagnosed narcissist, you are still the problem due to your own lack of boundaries/self-esteem to partake the relationship in the first place.
Awaken to Your True Self is a practical and easy to read, plain English, yet simultaneously graduate level course in psychological blindspot detection, self awareness, shadow work, mindfulness and even a little spirituality when it aligns. It guides the person lost in the development of themselves towards figuring out where their patterns, beliefs, and subconscious knee jerk reactions have been keeping them from the outcomes they've wanted. From there, the book shows you what you need to do (or stop doing) to get past these roadblocks and start living a life that is in true alignment with yourself, if that is what you truly want and are ready to do.
This book is likely not for you if you've not spent much time reflecting on self, have no idea what shadow work is, or are in a tough spot in life where you may be too emotionally raw to handle kind but unforgiving realizations about where you are not as developed as you thought you were.
I'm a car guy, and an analogy guy:
A long time ago, I recognized the difference between a race car driver and his engineer. When racing a car at it's limit of performance, the driver, regardless of intellectual knowledge, is operating on mostly instinct and feeling when racing, sensing how much the car is vibrating, how it's weight is shifting and the noises it's making to understand if he can take it faster through the turn. But he's not capable of intellectualizing the need to add 4% more throttle on the corner exit, or turning the wheel 3 degrees more to the right on the last turn.
Meanwhile, the engineer knows the physics and calculus behind every degree the racer turns the wheel and every drop of fuel flowing through the engine. But the engineer absolutely lacks the ability to 'feel' how the car is moving in order to control it at the very edge of traction like the driver does naturally.
This book helped me realize that these are not opposing ways of being. They are complementary and meant to be utilized in union, in racing and in life. The union of intellectualizing and feeling are the compass of the human soul.
If you love for people to tell it to you like it is so that you can take the feedback and get past your stuck points, this is a great book.
I recommend going through no more than 1-2 chapters per day and really spending time reflecting on how they apply to your life. If a chapter doesn't particularly stand out in your life, keep reading and maybe revisit it in the future. Take notes. Journal. Put it in your Zettelkasten if you're that kind of person. This is a book where you really want to get all of the juice out if it. And it's definitely a book that you'll want to revisit, I'm planning on 2x per year for now.
Andrew Daniel’s Awaken to Your True Self is a straight-talking guide to breaking free from self-deception. He pushes you to take an honest look at your patterns, drop the excuses, and take full ownership of your life.
This book isn’t about feel-good advice. Daniel pushes you to face uncomfortable truths and break free from habits that hold you back. His take on self-awareness and emotional intelligence is blunt but refreshing.
Some parts may hit hard, especially if you’re not used to deep self-reflection. But if you’re ready for real change, this book delivers. It’s direct, honest, and packed with insights that can help you grow.
The book is divided into two parts. The first part looks at what might be making us stuck. The second part looks at various solutions. I have no doubt that Andrew Daniel is an expert in his field. I just found the book too long. I couldn't even finish over a period of three months. Admittedly I'm not used to listening to books as opposed to reading them. But even so... I gave up in the end, at the experiment in the penultimate chapter. I was impressed by the narrative but I'm not sure to what degree the book helped me get unstuck. A work in progress (me, that is, not the book).
This book needed lots of editing down. It could have been two chapters long and more useful to people without going through all of that filler. I liked what he said about choices and that we need to chose, instead wondering how make things work and then chose. No, you chose and then structure everything else around that.
The concepts in this book are simple, but the application of them requires a deep look at yourself and your life. I’ve not read anything quite like this. My life has changed so much I began applying the practices of this book. I recommend it to all of my hypnotherapy clients!
