Ens vèiem millor en la foscor

Una mare i una filla. Fa quaranta anys, van haver de fugir del totalitarisme amb la resta de la família. Des d’aleshores, la seva relació ha estat marcada per tot allò que l’exili va trencar per sempre. Amb els anys, totes dues han refet la seva vida, però en continents diferents, presoneres tothora de no ser mai d’enlloc. I la distància, l’escàs temps compartit i les diferents realitats en què viuen han anat afeblint els vincles entre elles. Mentre la filla vola per damunt de l’oceà per veure potser per última vegada la mare ja gran, revisa la vida de totes dues buscant la comprensió. I, en arribar, l’esperen encara moltes sorpreses que demostraran que el final de la vida pot ser el moment més intens, profund i bell que es pot viure amb una mare.

Tahle kniha je neobyčejně rozporuplná.

Na jedné rovině zpracovává témata, která mají potenciál. Konkrétně téma emigrace a sžívání se s novou kulturou může být velmi nosné, zvlášť obsahuje-li introspektivní prvky. Stejně tak zajímavý mi připadá motiv odcizení, které může do rodiny změna prostředí a s tím spojený stres přinést.

Hlavní hrdinka v knize primárně zpracovává svůj náročný vztah k matce, která v románu působí jako jedna z nejzajímavějších postav. Úzkostná žena, která potlačila samu sebe, aby se její zraněné ego dralo na povrch a manipulovalo všemi kolem - to je postava jak z Dostojevského.

Jenže tady přichází to ale. Jazyk je strojený, dialogy neobyčejně nepřirozené a vlastně se k žádné z postav pořádně nedostaneme. O členech rodiny se dozvídáme ze stylizovaných dopisů, které všechny znějí tak nějak stejně, spíš jako listy do cestopisu než jako rodinná korespondence.

Dralo se mi tu na mysl přirovnání "lízat zmrzlinu přes sklo". Přesně tak mi totiž tahle kniha přišla. Na jednu stranu vidíme, jak vypadá, umíme si představit, jak asi chutná, ale je to jen zprostředkovaný vjem, do kterého si můžeme vložit cokoli, ale skutečný zážitek stejně nemáme.

Desde la comodidad de tu hogar puedes pensar en el exilio pero no alcanzas a sentir como sería vivir esa situación.
Una separación de tu propio país dejando atrás costumbres y a tu propia familia.
El tiempo como principal eje de esta historia está plagado de sentimientos y adversidades.
Nos veíamos mejor en la oscuridad abre los ojos y te enfoca que ante cualquier percance nada puede superar el amor tan sólido que habita siempre entre madre e hija.
Si quieres profundizar en las vivencias que conlleva un exilio te animo a que leas esta historia que Monika Zgustova cristaliza en las páginas de su libro.

Czech emigrants to the USA find it difficult to naturalize, the mother Jana goes through panic attacks and depression, and her relationship with her daughter Milena is difficult. Milena lives in Barcelona and flies back to Jana just in time to get their reconciliation before the mother dies. Language is very stiff and unnatural. A biographical story.

Žena se vrací za svou nemocnou matkou do USA a mezitím v rámci rozhovorů s jinými lidmi vypráví svůj příběh (emigrace z ČSSR, život v USA, partneři, vztah k rodičům). Ze
začátku mi to přišlo jako nuda, ale později jsem se docela začetla a musím říct, že tam jsou silné věty. I tak mi někdy ta forma vyprávění přišla násilná, tok myšlenek by stačil.

No em decidia entre el 3 i el 4.

This book is short (only 100 pages in ebook verison) but still too long. It contains a lot of passages that are completely unnecessary for the story itself.

The main plot is supposed to be the difficulties of emigration from socialist Czechoslovakia which lead to estrangement of the family members becouse every one of them is trying to find his place in the world that they don´t understand and the world doesn´t understand them. But actually, the relationships in the family are far from ideal even before the emigration and everything revolves around the mother's mental problems.

However, there are a few things to notice:
The domestic population in the USA certainly doesn´t welcome the newcomers with open arms so they stick to other immigrants no matter their origin. (The problems of integration that we can see novadays too.) It is difficult for them to find "a home", a place where they would happily come back to, where they would feel safe and comfortable.

son diálogos que, poco a poco, se van haciendo cada vez más surrealistas, pedantes y extrañamente formados. me gusta el ritmo, lo demás no lo pillo del todo.
