Cute, but had some redundancies

I was so excited for Lucy’s book and I enjoyed it for the most part. Fyn brought out her fire and she brought out some lightness in him. I was a bit frustrated with the redundancies in the conversations they had. Most involved bringing up the same issues or sharing the same sentiments. I wanted more depth beyond rehashing things.
I’m still confused about what Proto’s end goal is, as it seems to change frequently. Guess I’ll have to wait and see!

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: medical experimentation, murder, mental illness, captivity, violence, grief, discussion of emotional child abuse

Kidnapped from Earth by Aliens. Evil aliens taking people from a place they shouldn't. Taking them for their own gain. Then taken again. These women find themselves in a nightmare of alien creatures who treat them badly. Being rescued by clawed, winged, fanged alien Angels. Can they be trusted?

These alpha scary beautiful warriors are looking for a better way of life, a life free of slavery, tyranny, and dictators fighting a war they hope to one day win. It is amongst this hostile enemy that encounter the fated eregri. A place where woman have not been for a very long time.

Love this series.

DNF. Don’t love the characters.

Normally I love the characters of this author, but not with this one.
The FMC is particularly annoying, selfish, and unsympathetic, despite her past traumas making you want to feel for her.

The MMC grows on you, even though the continued anger can be exhausting and frustrating.

I went and checked out other reviews, and discovered that it wasn’t going to get better, so skipping ahead.

Too much YA angst

This is definitely the last book I'll be reading in this series.

The angst! It really was at a level too frustrating for this reader. I was certain i was reading some YA thing similar to Twilight. So much crying! So much middle school type miscommunications! So many exclamation points!

SPOILERS

The female lead was a mess of childish emotions that didn't fit with her backstory, unpleasant as it was. She had a boatload of emotional problems, and was determined to stay out of the path of any help. Like she forgot she was on an alien planet and needed to work with what was available. I'd place her emotional maturity age at about 12, but with a libido. She was not a very sympathetic character. Her endless crying and flouncing off in anger just became too much, and that was at about 45% of the story. Yuck.

The male lead was a giant ball of rage and sexual frustration. That can be a sexy draw for a reader, but in this case it didn't work. He was a terrifying, aggressive and abusive dude to all his soldiers. And that was before he suffered even more trauma from the bad guys. Add to this a ton of childish behavior towards the female lead as well as everyone around him, and I couldn't muster any sympathy. Just too much.

The plot of this series is incredibly frustrating. You never get enough info to figure out what's going on. In the first book, the flying guys, with human help, destroyed the main power source of PROTO, the bad guys. But no further mention of that, as the bad guys keep on keeping on. WTH? The whole thing makes no sense and just gets more frustrating. Why does PROTO want these people? Why the experiments? It's all unclear.

The sex is clumsier than hot. There's a disjointed tone to it that pulls you from the scene. The first book was better.

I can't finish this series. Way too much silly, unnecessary angst, an unclear overarching plot, and bizarre, unending rage at everyone and anything by all the male characters make this series no fun.

Fyn has always teetered on the edge with anger and darkness since he was taken by Proto,. He feels the crawling presence within himself that he cannot quite expunge. A malingering shadow that gives him nightmares and robs him of sleep. A firey light in his darkness comes in the form of Lucy, his fated mate, his eregri. He feels that he is unworthy of her, that he should let her be with someone better all the while wanting to shred any other male that comes near her. He allows himself the chance to know what it is to be with his eregri and to be loved. Unfortunately shortly after he is helping a patrol and he is taken by Proto once again. Fyn cannot find his way back but his spirit holds on to Lucy.
Lucy has always been quiet and pretty much alone. She feels uncomfortable in a crowd and has learned to hide away. She is happy being overlooked until a chance comment she overhears gets her sent to the infirmary to help the Gryn look after their feathers. Seems her former escapism on Earthm in the form of falconery has put her in good stead here and it strangest of ways. Stranger still is how she feels that she can be bold with the downright beautifully frightening Command, Fyn. She cannot understand how he even saw her and yet somehow she lets him catch her for a brief time. He vows to stay and yet in the next moment he is gone and there is no more feeling like home, when he is not there. Will he ever come back?
I loved this. Two who have been hurt can be healed together if only they will let themselves. Always a soft-spot for the dark and anit-social males. Lucy I just wanted to hug and tell her not all of us are like that. A definite new favourite

to stupid to live

If you want a weak whiny, to stupid to live heroine this book is for you. Lucy was a disgrace. She runs away from safety while pregnant mad at her mate. She blames him for doing his job protecting his people. She is mad he got captured and left her whiny ass. Get a grip you big stupid jerk. You we dropped on a planet during a war, sorry your mate could not attend your every whiny whim because he was fighting to stop the extinction of his people.

Although the last book had it's not so good moments - I really was looking forward to this one since I thought the world setup was really interesting. Now for Fyn and Lucy individually - I do like them, they are interesting and I feel pretty different. HOWEVER together - this book had them go through a LOT of misunderstandings/back and forth that it was pretty ridiculous on the amount.

The first part of the book is Fyn avoiding/being mean to Lucy since he feels like he doesn't deserve her. He says means things to her and her back (more like frenimies vibes)Then commence a lot of times where either Fyn and Lucy (mostly Fyn) are bouncing between the idea of being together, or being apart since he has so much stuff going on. There's basically a load of angst (where the Main character is making the drama) and side external conflicts that add more to them being agnsty...and it's a lot of it again. If that isn't enough the external conflicts thrown at the leads were both annoying/unnecessary. For example there's a scene with a random girl who went at naked Fyn grabbing at his d- and Lucy walking in. It didn't get tooooo blown out of proportion, but it was like.......what was the point/not needed even for them to get to point A to B since the two already have so much conflict.

Jyr - the male lead from the previous book - was pretty annoying in his presence in this book. He's the leader, and was pushing Fyn and Lucy together...saying they need more kids (okay I guess as a leader, the logic of this makes sense). However later due to a bunch of things he's like weirdly in-between as an annoying factor with Fyn and Lucy? First it was like he was causing them to be apart more, Jyr was also trying to be a leader and such...but it was really weird to be honest. Also there is steam in this book, but after the first two times - it wasn't that enjoyable since next scene would be either Fyn/Lucy leaving because of angst.

I'm sort of torn since I really liked how Lucy her character was, but also bad that she got suddenly (spoiler) pregnant and left alone - but her whole job she had going on was really fun. Fyn too was a curious character to me from the first book, but sooooo much internal conflict that goes back and forth. There was me also being a bit confused on "dark" Fyn since it seemed Lucy also accepted/liked that version (minus the uh violence). Fyn is a ML who does have his endearing moments, such as how he wanted only Lucy always/wanting to protect her...but it just seriously conflicts with his next thoughts being how he needs to get away from her since he's messed up.

In terms of lore/world building if you did not read the previous books - there are parts to this that will be maybe confusing and not explained. For example Lucy getting pregnant was only possible when Fyn uses both of his on hers (which he did the first time and a couple other scenes) - if he only uses one, no pregnancy. The backstory of the dystopia world is also not really explained and the Proto battle stuff.

I’m so behind on writing reviews for this book so let’s see if I can bang out three in a row! Fear is the story of Lucy and Fyn, the second in the first series. They both are feeling not enough, somehow lacking. Of course, neither are.

“If I thought I was worthless, it was because others told me I was. Fyn made himself believe he was nothing all on his own.”

Lucy’s feelings of inadequacy from her family led her to work the solo job of falconer on Earth. After four or five books we are introduced to the concept that “the natural oils that human skin produces removes this [water] proofing” on the Gryn’s feathers. But don’t worry, it never stopped them from flying. You’d think it would with all the rolling around against their humans these guys do!

They are still fluffy warriors, too…

“…snuggled in my lap and at the mercy of my fingertips, something he clearly enjoys, given the little whimpers that escape him from time to time. He tried to make conversation, then simply dozed off.”

And at one point Fyn puts his hand to his face when Lucy kisses his check. Swoon.

The hilarious way with words still…

“Such a pretty girl too, especially as most babies look either like Winston Churchill or a raisin, whatever their parents tell you.”

A few hiccups:

“…taken on phalanx of joykills…” — a phalanx
“…I thought I was I’m nothing…” — extra “I’m”
“…just at the bot lets out…” — as
“…to make decision without hearing…” — decisions
Ustakos — This a couple of times. It’s Ustokos. At a minimum get your own made up world correct!

Learned a new word - swarf.

But they are stronger with each other. Little mouse Lucy feels alive with her big strong predator. They both know loss, and compliment each other perfectly. It’s interesting to guess at the next couples basked on how the individuals fit into the story arch this far. That’s another thing, all the characters fit. It’s not a never ending advertisement for The Next Book. Really liked these two.

Fyn and Lucy holding it down.
After the first book, I didn't have much hope for the relationships of this series. However, I am proud to admit that I was wrong. While there still were some issues between the way the characters developed their bond, I felt like their relationship was a lot more believable than previous relationships built by this author. Was I happy with all of the choices they made? No, I wasn't. But did I understand how someone could make those choices based on the mental and emotional trauma they both carried? Yes, I did. What I found most beautiful about this book was how Lucy never gave up on Fyn.
Finn started to get a little bit annoying at the end because it felt like he wasn't even trying. He was so ready to be overtaken by what was happening in his mind that it felt like he had literally lost all of his hope. So when the potential for aid comes and then he completely flips a script and goes all in for Lucy. It made me feel like she should have made him a grovel a little bit more before allowing him back into her life.
My biggest gripe with Lucy is that she remained the same person throughout the book. She started off as a very quiet meek shy girl who was a bit of a pushover and let people walk all over her and she ended the book the same way. Yes, there were tiny moments where she stood up for herself but when she was met with resistance she eventually did cave. It would have been nice to see her grow a little bit more of a backbone and learn to value herself instead of seeking that validation from others.

🪶 “My fated one, my whole. My everything.”

I really loved Fierce, but Fear is magnificent on a whole new level!

Lucy is a falconer - a timid and shy woman. And she’s so kind, compassionate and caring. But I loved that despite her quiet presence, she’s willing to stand up for herself. She’s absolutely wonderful and I loved her!

Fyn is Jyr’s second in command. He’s one fearsome Gryn - big, arrogant, possessive and brooding. And there is so much anger in him. But he’s also one magnificent male - strong and fiercely protective. I loved him so much.

The development of their relationship was phenomenal! Oh, what a rollercoaster of emotions!!! Both are loners and broken in their own way. I loved how they healed each other and found peace, family and love together. And they grew so much throughout the story. I really loved that Lucy was able to see the good in Fyn and stand by his side through his darkest hours. But they had a long way to go and their road to happiness was quite bumpy. Nevertheless, they were a wonderful match and the passion they shared was so sensual and hot!

In addition, I really liked Jesic and Kyt - they are really awesome friends!

Overall, the story is a fantastic and emotional read filled with danger, fast-paced action, twists, surprises, steamy romance and amazing characters.

I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every page of it!

I couldn’t read this book fast enough! So good!

*****
Rating: 5 stars
Steam: 2.5 flames
Genre/Tropes: Alien / Sci-Fi Romance, Fated Mates, Broken MMC, Strong FMC
Triggers: PTSD
*****
Fun… oh dear sweet broken and angry Fyn. Fyn, like the rest of the seniors, was captured by Protos and experimented on… and that has left him with anger issues to say the least. Bless his heart, he struggles with PTSD like issues and that broke my heart, and he doesn’t feel he is an acceptable mate to anyone the way he is. In comes Lucy.

Lucy, is the quiet, shy, loner… and was a falconer during her time on earth. When the lair realizes she has skills repairing wings, preening and so much more, she becomes a fixture in Orvos medical facility.

Fyn tries to keep his distance from the small alien, but when he breaks a flying feather… he goes to the one person that can help him fix it. Can Lucy fix more than his feather? Could she be his salvation from the anger building inside of him?

This book was AWESOME! Well written, well thought out, full of tidbits of interesting info, fantastic and loveable characters, and steam. I seriously gobbled this book up as soon as I finished Fierce! The battle against Protos is heating up and I will be reading this series until Protos is taken down! I think I loved this book more than the first! Fyn easily won my heart!

A must read series in my opinion!

4&1\2terrific 🌟s for Fear🔥🔥💖💖

Lucy is the shy don't want to draw to my b attention type. She was orphaned young and her aunt was absolutely horrid to her. She was an old fashioned falconer who spent more time with birds of prey than she did with humans. When she abducted by Proto her world is turned upside down. Especially when she draws the attention of Fyn the eternally grumpy Gryn warrior. Fyn was one of the worst tortured by proto. He has horrible night terrors and her tough on himself and other when it comes to defending his home. He doesn't need a mate especially one from the new human women. They just get in the way and cause trouble. That is until he gets closer to Lucy. She's everything he's ever wanted but feels he doesn't deserve. Lucy also feels that Fun will realize he could do better and doesn't really care for her at all. D aver is lurking around the corner she. Proto attacks. Lucy let's her last fears rush in and scary misunderstandings make her run. Can Fyn find his love before she's lost to him forever? Can Lucy put the last aside and embrace all the future holds? You need to read and find out if awesome! Would entry into the series!🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖

I really enjoyed the previous book in this series, Fierce. This one, however, was disappointing. In this story, Fyn is shown as an angry, mean Gryn almost exclusively. He follows Lucy around basically stalking her, and is mean every time.

Meanwhile, he decides she's his fated mate and she's entirely in. Until he goes off to save other Gryn warriors and gets kidnapped. Lucy gets mad that he was kidnapped and then runs off and finds out she's pregnant (with twins!)

Fyn somehow gets out, gets her back and then is basically crazy because he had been kidnapped and re=programmed more than once by the bad guys. Lucy fights to keep him within the group.

I just wasn't really interested in Fyn's story, and it seemed to not make much sense. I like the world and the aliens, so I may read more, but we'll see.

Some birds aren’t meant to be caged!

Fear is book 2 in the Rogue Alien Warriors series and has an intense and beautiful storyline. Fyn is the youngest of the group of Gryn leaders, the most naïve and the one tortured the most by Proto, the merciless AI.

Shy Lucy wants to go unnoticed but draws the attention of the most aggressive and cranky Gryn of the bunch. You know fated mated and all. She has the perfect profession for her circumstance and learns to stand up for herself and tame a hot tempered, sexy and brawny Gryn.

Fear has a post apocalyptic feel, lots of turmoil, found friendship and family, love and support. Grab a few tissues because at one point you will need them!

I recommend reading the Rogue Alien Warrior series in order. Many characters and events carry on from one book to the next and you do not want miss a thing!

4.5 stars. Lucy, the female human lead, is pathologically shy as a function of her childhood. Fyn, the male alien lead, knows he broken because of the torture he underwent at the hands of the AI who controls the planet. But they find each other inexorably drawn together. So the question becomes whether they can overcome their personal hang ups to sustain a successful ongoing relationship.

This story is dual POV, well written, and quite emotional from both lead characters’ perspectives. I enjoyed how they built together and then had a second go. I enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Lucy’s alien friend.

I loved this book. Great world building. The whole atmosphere captivated me. I loved these characters. The heroine Lucy is very shy and just wants to be by herself. When she fixes an adolescent Gryn's broken feather, it puts her in the spotlight for her skills and she's soon set up to work in the surgery. Fyn is a warrior and second-in-command. Intimidating, grumpy, and quick to anger. He recognizes Lucy is his mate, but every time he speaks to her, angry and defensive words come out beyond his control. He can't get her out of his mind and watches her from afar. He believes he doesn't deserve a mate and decrees to himself he will not have one. Lucy is attracted to him, but he makes her angry and she believes he doesn't like her. I really enjoyed this story. 5 stars.

I really liked Lucy and the way she fought to survive in the midst of an alien bird like race fighting against a common machine based enemy.
The steamy scenes were weird for me as the bird like references didn’t blend with the human-like attributes. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around the scenes that were supposed to be steamy. The whole double parts and knotting references threw me off as well. Was this a bird/man/dog/wolf-shifter?
Protos as the enemy was equally dark and creepy. Fyn was more of a victim than scary alpha male.
Lucy’s optimism and loyalty was the one sweet constant despite Fyn and his constant broken vows.

This is another great story. Lucy is a Falconer when she was on Earth but she's not on Earth now. Lucy is mostly a loner who's shy and wants to be by herself. Fyn is a Falconer shifter but he's got major attitude, he's very strict, grumpy and intimidating. He knows that Lucy is his mate but he doesn't believe he has earned the right to a mate. Lucy really likes Fyn but she thinks he doesn't like her. There is action, adventure, drama, suspense and the way they heal each other starting with his broken feather. Love their characters and their journey to their HEA> I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

it’s a sweet romantic story

It’s a slow burn romance. They are not really my favorite reads, however the story itself was good so I continued reading. The book is about the human female Lucy who was abducted by the enemy but then saved by the Gryn warriors. Lucy is shy, reserved and likes being unnoticed. However when she and Fyn are in close proximity they both felt tingles. Both of them fought off their feelings for a long time because both felt not worthy. After a party in celebration of Jyr and Viv’s new baby both Fyn and Lucy gather courage to act on their attraction. Read On!

Fyn and Lucy are an interesting pair. The super damaged, angry grump and the super shy, insecure woman with a thing for birds. But they worked together. They had great chemistry and I found it adorable every time Fyn would essentially turn into a puddle when she helped with his wings. I honestly felt bad for both of them when his brain got reprogrammed and everything went to hell but with some meddling by the other seniors who are essentially big brother to each other, they figured it out. There was a lot of character development and learning that even if you’re not a big people person, you just have to find your person.

Once again Hattie Jacks brings us a story of deep love, emotion and a mesmerizing story of love conquering all. No matter how grumpy Fyn is, Lucy can only see the good in him and when all seems lost after he is captured and mind altering drugs appear to have permanently damaged him, Lucy is the one who stands by her man and sees him through his darkest hours. But the light at the end of this emotional tunnel is full of love, happiness, twin alien babies, belonging for both of them and a live of acceptance by the Gryn in the lair.

FEATHERS WILL FLY!!

Wow! Great Book! Lots of SIZZLE XXX! I Loved how the author has woven Falconry into Lucys character and how it enables her to find personal value within the Gryn colony! Proto is the ultimate villain using fear as a psychological weapon to control his victims and then fills them full of rage and hatred! The authors in-depth look at the debilitating power of fear is skillfully woven into the very essence of both Fyn and Lucys’ characters… each from a different source! WILL LOVE CONQUER THIER PERSONAL FEARS!! Keep a tissue handy!!

Fyn is probably the most damaged lead character I have read about in a long time. It was so satisfying seeing his journey to Lucy and healing. Lucy had her own emotional scars, and the two of them had so many obstacles to overcome. That being said, Fyn is so sweet and steamy, and Lucy deserves to be loved the way only a Gryn loves. What a wonderful story full of fear, pain, struggle, steam, and strength. Love truly is the glue they needed to be together. Loved this story! Can’t wait to read the next one!

Fear

I really love the flawed characters and their growth throughout the story. This one was definitely different from the first one

Our FMC is totally into our MMC while he is completely unsure of humans. They are alien to him as much as their other way around. But he knows deep down who she really is to him.

Our MMC is very flawed, young and reckless. He has to overcome his self doubt and selfishness.

However their story isn’t an easy one and they have many hurdles to overcome. Narration was great!

Fear

This story is about Fyn and Lucy. Fyn is pretty sure Lucy is his fated mate. But, he has NO experience talking to ladies or anything else with ladies. He’s a virgin. Needless to say the first time he and Lucy get together he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do to keep her from getting pregnant and as a result she winds up pregnant. The storyline is good with lots of action and romance. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers. Otherwise, dive right in.

Kindle - cute story of 2 wallflowers finding each other and struggling with the explosion of emotions. Love that Lucy’s Earth bird care experience can help the Gryn as parenting and self care training for the young seems to be seriously lacking in the lair. It’s great that they can grow and learn from one another and are both overly stubborn. The twin birth is perfect for the lair and help cement the couple together.

I highly recommend reading book 1 first. I started with this book because it has a virgin hero. But I don't understand the underlying story.
Our hero is part bird, part hot dude, so if you are into that, this is for you.
It is of the "Mars needs women" variety of stories, which I tend to like.

Virgin rating
Innocence of virgin hero: 4/5
Innocence in losing it: 3/5
Build up to losing it: 2/5
Hotness of losing it: 3/5
Busted touching himself: no
POV of losing it: male
