When Cozy Mystery author, Patti Benning, isn’t busy plotting the deaths of multiple fictitious characters, she loves to spend time hiking with her rescue dog, Max, who is her bestest writing buddy.
Patti loves to cook and the food in her books has been tried and tested in her very own kitchen. She’s technologically shy, and stays away from social media a great deal, because it makes her feel more awkward and introverted than meeting someone face to face.

Jo and Nick return from New York state. Jo on arriving at her house finds the house setter dead. It settles down to normal but Rose 🌹 gives her a goose. This book is a great addition to the series. I really enjoyed the story and the whodunnit part of the storyline really kept me guessing. This particular book really built on the last book so it was almost like having an extended mystery. The characters are well developed and have distinct personalities that mesh well with each other. This author never disappoints and once again has written a story that is fun and interesting!
4.5 rounded up —2 things that really bugged me about this one: 1) Why can’t the author get the name of Laurie’s boyfriend straight? He’s been Mark, Jack & Jake, and was actually referred to as both Mark and Jake in this book. 2) Could she please find another word to describe Jo’s car other than referring to it as her crossover - Every. Single. Time. I NEVER hear anyone use that term for their vehicle even when what they have is a crossover. Most people just call it a car. I don’t know why it bugs me so much that she never, ever calls it anything else. Maybe she doesn’t have a thesaurus.
Anyway, in spite of this—and the fact that I’ve guessed whodunnit it in every last book in the series—I more or less enjoy the series. It seems like the author has decided to add a new animal to Jo’s farm in every book, which I guess is okay. Even though a lot of the characters are too good to be true, I tend to like the characters. I like it best when Nick is somewhere else as I find him to be very boring. He wasn’t bad in this book since he wasn’t in it too much.
I intend to finish the series, although I haven’t liked the last few as much as earlier ones. They are very quick to read, and do make good breaks between longer novels, and my preferred thriller genre.
NOTE: The book blurb shown on Amazon doesn't match up to this book, but I actually like what happened in this book a lot more. I'm no fan of Jo's ex and was actually dreading him being in it, but this was a good surprise that the blurb didn't match.
This book takes up just after the last one, and I highly recommend reading in order to get more enjoyment as character relationships develop and all that fun stuff--and as Jo adds to her menagerie. Her addition this time might've saved her life!
I was suspicious of whodunit sort of early but I was distracted by red herrings too, so while I wasn't really surprised at who the perp was, I'd let my mind go off that person. The showdown was really good and that new addition I mentioned got in on the act too. It was a little disappointing that Nick wasn't in this one, but we got him for all of book 7, lol. Jo's definitely appreciating her friends in this one and feeling very fortunate to be surrounded by such awesome people. Can't wait to borrow the next on KU when it's out!
Jo makes it home from her NY vacation to find her house sitter dead in her car in the driveway. She is still stuck getting around on crutches with her sprained ankle. She tries to get to the bottom of the killing with lots of twists and turns and a surprise ending. A fun read.
I really like this series. I had an inkling early on as to who the killer was but I couldn't quite figure out the motive and there were three other very likely suspects. Looking forward to the next book.
Another great read. And another critter you just have to laugh out loud at the collection of animals No keeps collecting. I have to admit I am envious of life on the farm
Fantastic as usual. Love this series. Well written story with great characters. Love Maisie the goose. She is hilarious. I look forward to reading more.
