In 1969, a group of genetically enhanced teens are unleashed upon a world already drenched in change and upheaval. In no time at all, these kids, these “Shadows” begin violently reshaping political landscapes: from Vietnam to the Civil Rights Struggle.Standing a cut above her peers is a girl named Erin Escalante. The prowess of the foul-mouthed, chain-smoking Erin is rapidly earning her both an envied and reviled reputation. But times, they are a’ changing. With each new and stressful mission, she is becoming jaded with her life as an Assassin. The same goes for a young man named Matthew Mutantes. Years before he will become the Illegal, he is the top killer for Mexico’s Latin X Program. Both he and Erin are on a collision course to take on their enemies. Along the way, each killing machine will have to run a gauntlet of war, pain…and werewolves.
Erin is a phenomenal character with a complex backstory. I love how the Legacy series empowers women, which is rare in this genre. History and light politics are woven throughout the story providing a rich plot and meaningful resolution.
