It was good. Logan and Eli. They grew up. They actually TALKED to each other.
Chapters 16 and 18 with the letters were fucking devastating — the letter written personally to Logan completely shattered me. The letter to “him” felt a bit too Logan-centric — understandable, just not as touching. Just wait for chapter 56. It will hit again.
Chapter 44 is pure heartbreak. But on the other hand, thank you for letting everything unfold the way it did.
“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.”
“There’s no point in searching for meaning… That’s the worst part of grief. It’s messy. It’s sticky. It attacks you out of nowhere, without any reason. Grief itself makes no sense. And for people like us, who usually think in orderly ways, the chaos crawling into every corner of our lives is frustrating and disorienting.”
“No one should have to go through life alone, even if they are strong enough to.”
“What exists between her and me is supposed to last forever — but what if her forever is shorter than mine?”
“— Hardships will only make me stronger. They always do.
— How much stronger do you want to be, Logan?
— Just a little more.”
Cons: Everything felt overly stretched out. Between 30% and 60% I was basically reading diagonally because every thought was repeated three times in a row. I felt like a child who needed things explained over and over again. It got better later, but between 80% and 90% the feeling came back.
Thank you, Liz Tomforde, for this universe.
I’m really looking forward to the Wilders’ story.
But please — I need to know about Marc and Ali! We need them.
