Women are fighting for a seat at the table to determine what’s on your plate.
Reforming our food system is the single most important challenge facing humanity today—and women are leading the charge. With exclusive interviews and original insights, this collection features the never-before-told stories of fifteen CEOs, venture capitalists, scientists, and trailblazers, across continents and backgrounds, who are reinventing our food system and saving the planet.
From plant-based to cell-based innovation, artificial intelligence, and policymaking, women leaders are pushing to the forefront of this growing industry and disrupting the traditional ways we produce and think about food. Their stories reveal the exciting advancements and advocacy within food tech and empower a future generation to learn, innovate, and change the world.
I so wanted to like this book as the topic interests me, but it really is just several mostly superficial interviews with women entrepreneurs in the food industry. An overview at the beginning would have helped. I had to figure out what CPG was - used several places in the book, but never defined. She talks about different technologies for creating plant-based foods or cell-based meats, but I really don't understand what cell-based meats are. She could have described these processes for the reader. This whole industry is fascinating and I was disappointed that this wasn't a better overview.
I saw this 'book' in one of my friends' collection, and I nearly spit my drink when I read the title of it, probably because I've never seen such a goofy name for a book before. But I am a curious person and like to read, so I gave it a chance in case it was actually good, and boy was I wrong about that. I really tried, but I just couldn't get past the first 30 pages of the book. It was one of the most painful readings I've ever had. It's the same old artificial and fake political garbage about women leading the world and stuff. There is nothing inspiring about that whatsoever, and I am a woman. Why? Because it's fake, soulless, artificial and superficial, with absolutely no effort put into writing it. It's getting so exhausting trying to find a book that can actually teach and inspire girls and women nowadays.
TLDR: I wouldn't read this even if someone gave it to me.
A nice collection of inspiring stories. This book wasn't exactly what I expected it to be. It seems that the focus was not fine-tuned and it is difficult to tell if entrepreneurialism, female empowerment, or veganism was the main topic. This would have been a good read early in my journey towards veganism but as someone who has been on this path for awhile, the details of the technology discussed by each of the founders would have made this a better read for me.
An interesting look into the various applications of veganism and vegan values to business and food tech. As someone who is especially interested in this intersection, this was a really intriguing read for me. There female CEOs featured from companies I am very familiar with (Miyokos, Stray Dog Capital) and plenty I’d never heard of. A great look across a growing industry and a peek into the often very different lives and upbringing of female founders in the industry.
What a diverse and powerful group of women shaping the future of food. Stojkovic narrates their stories beautifully. As in so many aspects of life, including how we feed ourselves, if we want to survive and thrive we need the feminine to reclaim an equal place at the table.
I mean it’s by no means leftist (very capitalist girl boss) but I did find a lot of the founder’s upbringing/backgrounds to be really fascinating. And Miyoko being chased by a Japanese crime syndicate ??? I’m going to buy extra of her cream cheese after all she went through lol.
Opening about the history of women and food was the strongest part of the book and I rly enjoyed it.
This is a nice collection of interviews with female founders in the vegan food tech space (and one working in beauty products). It was pretty informative and interesting. It does vary in topics which makes for a lack of focus, and is not always super interesting as a result, but is pretty good for what it is.
An incredibly inspiring read. These women are helping to change the world in a positive direction, and I wouldn't have known about many of them or their work without this book. (A couple of the profiles towards the end of the book were actually my favorite.) Highly recommended.
Although I am a feminist and a vegan, I found this book to provide so much background and explanation about how women in many parts of the world are dedicating their lives to saving animals and our earth. A wonderful read!
Concisely written with a diverse collection of female leaders, anyone looking to work in or even lead the food system in 2030 needs to grab and be repeatedly inspired by this guidebook.
