A disgraced P.I. living out of her van moves back to her hometown and a man desperately searching for his mother find a deeper faith in God—and in one another.
Edie Larson has hit rock bottom. Her lucrative gig as a private investigator to some high-profile celebrities ends badly, resulting in eviction from her apartment and barely enough funds to survive. In the wake of this disaster, she moves home to Rocky Ridge, refusing to tell anyone that she is living out of her van at the campground.
Matt Whittaker’s mother left when he was five years old. Since then, he has often wondered what became of her. Shortly after turning thirty, he discovers a large amount of money that she has saved for him over the past twenty-five years, which re-ignites his desire to find her. On the advice of a friend, Matt reaches out to Edie for her services.
As Edie and Matt investigate his mother’s disappearance, an uneasy friendship is forged that leads each to a deeper faith in God. As they work through various challenges, they learn that they can rely on the Lord and each other. Still, past experiences and present dilemmas threaten to keep them apart. Will love—and faith—find a way to conquer all?
Morris Fenris loves to let his imagination paint pictures in a wide variety of genres. His current book list includes everything from Christian romance to an action-packed Western romance series, to inspirational and Christmas holiday romance.
Edie and Matt …. two lonely people. Two very different people but , also, very much the same. Both were rather aloof and distant, both knew how to ruffle each other’s feathers and both had been abandoned by their mothers way too early in life.
Both have grown into responsible adults. Both had good jobs. Edie was a private investigator for the rich and famous … until she wasn’t. Losing her job and home, she lived out of her van. Oh how she had fallen from her former glory.
Matt had a stable life and decent income but all he did was exist…. UNTIL. When he turned 30 he learned he was a rich man. His mother had been investing in a secret account she established for him. He hadn’t seen her since he was five years old. He wanted, no he NEEDED, answers.
So here we have a woman down on her luck needing a job. We have a man who needs that woman’s investigative abilities . Seems like a match made in Heaven, right? Well, yes, it may be a perfect solution for both of them, but that road they must travel is curvy, narrow and steep.
Along the path of working diligently to become a hard-edged private investigator, Edie lost her faith. Somehow it faded away. As for Matt, he was angry. He questioned how a loving God allowed families to be ripped apart. On their journey they learn that God doesn’t tear families apart, but He knows how to put them back together. It’s not an easy road to travel but they learn, if God is for them, who can be against them.
❣️GOOD QUOTES IN THE BOOK
➦ “Did she know Jesus? Yes, she did. She and Jesus had a long and complicated history.”
➦ “Taking a deep breath, Matt said, “I don’t know where I stand on faith. I think I believe in God, but then I think about my mom and my dad and just all those things, and I wonder. How would God let something so broken happen, you know?” “I do,” Edie said. “There is so much that feels like it shouldn’t happen if God is really in charge.”
➦ “Reggie would argue that as soon as Adam and Eve caused the first sin, brokenness came into the world,” Matt said. “Whenever he says stuff like that it actually makes me mad. Like, why do I have to be responsible for something that Adam and Eve did? Why am I still paying the price?”
🤔 PONDERINGS:
➦ Faith needed to learn compassion. I’m thinking she has a story to tell.
➦ How was losing her job, Edie’s fault? I keep wanting to know what happened. What did she do, if anything?
➦ With parents like that, how did Edie and Matt turn out as good as they did? Those parents need to own up to their failures and do some groveling. … The God I know never would have a mother abandon her child to establish a religious dance team. … As for Edie’s mom, she admits her downfall but never shows regret. She only says she now has a new family and a 10 year old daughter who wants to know her older sisters. Tsk, tsk… where is that 10 year old? She’s not with her mama.
I was provided an advance copy of this book and am leaving my personal thoughts and opinions. There were some typos but doubt I read the final edit.

I enjoyed this clean romance with a twist of mystery in it in Book #3 of the Rocky Ridge series. We reconnect with the families and friends from the previous 2 books and discover more about Edie. I found it to be a great story of love, spiritual growth, and relationships. I love how Edie's friends are not critical but supportive, even while she's living out of her van and away from God. Their love and concern for her wellbeing is brought healing--so much so that she could embrace her mother who left years ago.
While this is an inspirational story, it's not preachy. Edie and Matthew struggle with events from their past and broken family relationships. As they come together to solve a mystery, they support and encourage each other. I especially love the answer Reggie (one of the characters) to Matt, "God will do some big things if He wants to get your attention. The next part really has to do with whether or not you are listening." A great story! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.
Missing Home is Book 3 of the Rocky Ridge Series by Morris Fenris. Although this is an inspirational romance, it is also a mystery. I have enjoyed all 3 books in this series, but, I think Missing Home is my favorite. Morris Fenris has brought back my favorite characters and added some new characters that are wonderful. Eddie is a down on her luck PI while Matt wants to find the mother that left his father and he when he was around 5. Although finding a missing person is the job, might love be found too? This is such an enjoyable story and I can recommend it to you… You will enjoy the story too! I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
I really enjoyed reading this book! It was completely different than I thought it would be! It wasn't only God centered but it had it's twists and turns! Bringing Matt and Edie together in such a way where Reggie advises Matt to hire Edie to help him find his mother was the best thing that he could do have done! It brought two heartbroken lonely people together! Although, how Matt's mother never told him how she was able to put aside all of that money was never revealed! That left me hanging which I didn't like! Just trying to be honest here!
This is a heartwarming Christian romance that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. Edie and Matt's story is full of hope and inspiration with a mystery to solve. I love watching them grow in their faith as they worked together. I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Christian fiction. It's a wonderful read. I received a complimentary copy and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I really liked this story. Edie was down on her luck. She had lost her job and had taken on the role of a PI. She had followed a man and had proof of his affair with a woman. He was irate. Evil was living in her van and desperately needed a new job. She had come in contact with a man wanting to find his mother missing for 25 years. She had a new job and the rest is very interesting, enjoy their story.
On the road and broke She is a Private Investigator -- and due to circumstances has lost everything. I loved this story the Christian references have helped me as I read the story simple basic belief I had forgotten about thank you
The story was true to life showing families can be torn apart and reunited how hard those lessons are difficult conversation misunderstandings all affect us regularly but prayers help
This is a wonderful, clean, Christian romantic suspense book. It’s a wholesome read about forgiveness, friendship and faith. There is plenty of added backstory to help you understand the amazing characters that you’ll fall in love with. You will happily stay up way to late turning pages to get to the end. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Inspirational, heartfelt with a little suspense. Definitely my favorite in this series, so far. I think because they were somewhat on common ground with the faith and Mom issues. They really connect well, the story stayed focused on them and the resolutions they seek as they find love along the way.
So enjoyed all 3 of your books. The message in each one was spot on. They each had conflict from their past that is resolved with Christian guidance. Waiting for book 4 in May.
When Edie and Matt meet they are both struggling with the lost of their mothers and their relationship with God. When he hires her to help him track down his mother who abandoned him twenty five years ago they go on a trip that both grows them closer to each other and also God.
This book was pretty on par with the first two in the series. The author has a formula and follows it to a T. If you enjoyed the first two, then definitely give this one a read. I’m sticking with 2.5 stars. I wish more of the plot was developed. The ending felt a bit rushed for me.
I'm really love this series, all the characters, love, friendships and the "messages". I'm hoping that as I continue to read the other books and get answers to the questions that I'm left with in this one.
Missing Home is the third book in the Rocky Ridge Series. Each book is a stand-alone story that tells about one of six friends that grew up together and have stayed close through the years.
This book tells of Edie Larson, who works as a Private Investigator. Matt Whitaker hires her to find his mother. Both Edie and Matt are basically orphans because each of their mothers abandoned them at a young age.
In searching for Matt's mother, Edie and Matt slowly learn to have faith and trust in God. I enjoyed reading how both of them grew toward a stronger faith. I feel like my faith was strengthened by reading this book.
This is a clean, Christian romance with a satisfying HEA. It is suitable reading for all ages.
I was given an ARC of this book from the author. All comments and opinions are mine, given voluntarily.
