We'll Be Back: The Fall and Rise of America

Rate this book
Humor and polemics from one of America's most quotable pundits. A call for renewal and a howl of laughter and derision at the woke mob that seeks to stand in the way of a great nation's patriotic resurgence. Fans of Mark Levin, Matt Walsh, and Ben Shapiro will love it!

In 1991, the smoldering ruins of Saddam Hussein’s regime testified to America’s unchallenged might. Having defeated one of the world’s largest armies in a matter of days, the United States looked forward to a new century of peace and prosperity.

Thirty years later, a ragtag Taliban chased us out of Afghanistan in a humiliating rout. At home, our cities are cesspools of homelessness and crime. The former land of opportunity seems to be in irreversible decline.

How did we suffer such an unimaginable fall? And is our current impotence permanent? With his trademark wit, Kurt Schlichter—warrior, lawyer, and commentator—makes a compelling case that America’s decline is not irreversible.

No Pollyanna, he offers a sobering catalogue of the dangers ahead, from subjugation to China to the poverty of socialism. Even civil war. But Schlichter was among the U.S. forces that took down the tyrant of Iraq in 1991. Having seen American greatness in action and appreciating the virtues that produced it, he knows that decline is a choice—a choice that we need not make.

Sometimes mordant, often humorous, always incisive, Schlichter shows that our resilience is far from spent. American society is uniquely blessed with the ingredients of greatness. A pushback is coming. Schlichter offers no guarantees but something more important—hope.

An interesting, optimistic take on the country's future. He starts out explaining how we got in the current mess, then lays out possible paths we might go down. I thought it was well reasoned and illuminating.

Agree with everything except NYS is NOT blue!!

I personally have been pushing for a national divorce for about 15 years now. As an upstate NYer, I have gotten sick and tired of people who aren't from NY saying we are all a bunch of commies! NYS is NOT NYC, if NY were to do a mini version of a national divorce and ditch NYC, we are as red as Ohio!! Great book though and great author. Please read!

Finally

A book that sorts out the realities of the present situation and what led up to it. The writing style reminds me of talking with the Chief at my first assignment (a transportation BN)- enjoyable, logical, and easy to follow. Schlicter presents possible scenarios but manages to leave the reader with hope, even as he cautions that no promises can be made. I will be recommending this book to all of my (sane) friends.

Kurt Schlichter does an outstanding job illustrating what is at stake in our current social and political situation. He uses his usual direct, hard-hitting analysis along with outrageous humor to show the impact of the rampant leftism and wokeness on our society and our people
This is a must-read, is very well done, quite impactful, and worth reading.

Your contempt for Pres Trump is disturbing

I liked the different scenarios of what we could be facing but you still do not see president Trump as we the people see him. You can not see that to me you are one of those ELITIST republicans. Trump speaks like me, if they lie call them a lier to their face.

If Only…

I wish I could reject his warnings as unlikely. I wish I could anticipate his proscriptions confidently.

Sadly, I cannot.

I also wish that our next president would have the sagacity of a VDH or a Sowell. That he could clone the Grennells and the Lightbringrrs and populate his administration with those warriors.

We need another Reagan to lead and inspire.

Man, when Kurt Schlichter gets going, there's really no stopping him. This book felt like brawling with a mountain lion at times. His scathing barbs and heavy doses of humor pander to the wicked little part of me that enjoys belittling my political rivals. This is not healthy everyday reading, but as a one-time indulgence... ah, what the heck... give it a shot!

Much to think about

Well thought out. Laid out the various scenarios in order. I only wish I could be as optimistic as him. Time to get busy, especially to get the constitutional option.

I am actually still reading this book, but I've decided to zap a review anyway because I'm relatively bored of it after only ninety-seven pages and am continuing mainly because I dislike abandoning books. Fortunately, Goodreads allows reviews even if the reader hasn't earned the right to give one yet. Yeah, well, I'll presumably change this review later.

I added this book to my readlist many months ago as soon as I heard of it; I don't know what I wanted or expected from it other than encouragement, but I can say that 97 pages in, I haven't found much yet. I'll keep reading...but I'm already looking forward to the next thing on my list. Which is Paul Revere's Ride.

Of course this book is sprinkled with columnist Schlichter's obnoxious sarcasm, but not quite to the extent as in his columns.
