Solovev Bratva #1

Ravaged Crown

Rate this book
What would you do if you walked in on your husband cheating?
I'll tell you what I did:
Ran out the door with nothing but the clothes on my back.

A month later, I'm broke, jobless, almost homeless.
But then, while filling in as a waitress at a fancy restaurant, I trip and land in the lap of a gorgeous stranger.

One thing leads to another and we end up hooking up.
Afterwards, he leaves.
That's the end of that... right?

WRONG.

Because the next day, my temp agency sets me up for a job that seems too good to be true.
But when I arrive for the interview, my jaw drops.

It's the stranger.
Turns out he's rich. Like, very rich.
And powerful. Like, very powerful.
And here's his offer:

"Live in my house.
Be my wife.
Have my baby."

Needless to say, I start to freak out.
I stand up and stammer, "Um, I'll have to get back to you..."
And he replies:
"You're misunderstanding.
It wasn't a question.
You're not going anywhere."

RAVAGED CROWN is Book One of the Solovev Bratva duet. The story concludes in Book 2, RAVAGED THRONE.

First off, the description is a straight up lie….

Let’s just start by clarifying the description is a straight up misleading lie. Willow did NOT “run out the door with nothing but the clothes on my back” after catching her husband cheating. Nope, what she did was make the bed she caught him in and cook him dinner. I wish I could say I’m lying. Then a month later she was working as a waitress, but not “ broke, jobless, almost homeless”. She has many temp jobs, and STILL lives with the abusive cheating husband! She does NOT ever “trip and land in the lap of a gorgeous stranger”. She simply serves him as a waitress, then has sex with him. The description says it’s the next day she gets a job offer and finds out it’s from him, but it is not. She literally lives with her cheating abusive husband for MONTHS after finding him cheating. Months. She’s not homeless. Why the description is blatantly lying, I can’t say. It literally turned me off the moment I realized all of that was a lie.

Carrying on…. I found Willow to be too stupid to live and annoyingly pathetic and weak. I actually put this down as a DNF because it was so frustrating to me.

After I read a few other books, I came back and finished it. I liked the overall storyline, but hated significant parts. Weak Willow, for example. Listen up authors- it will NEVER be believable that when a man is humiliating or belittling you, or actively terrifying you (particularly if you are a survivor of abuse), that you would just “melt” at them touching you or cramming their fingers into you. I guarantee she was NOT always dripping wet 🙄 she probably had spent her entire adult life never being turned on or satisfied because her husband was an abusive jerk. She would NOT find that behavior a turn on. It instantly makes me lose respect for the character, and frankly author, and to be honest I skipped over all their smexxy scenes that happened that way. I know she’s starved for affection, but I can’t fathom how many times he could say to her face that he was using her and she was nothing to him as she just kept coming back asking if she meant anything to him. Girl, stop!!

I liked the overall storyline, that’s the ONLY things that made me come back and finish this book. I loathe weak pathetic women, and and lazy writing (“my body betrayed me” is lazy imo). If you can look beyond those things, you’ll probably enjoy this story. There’s a cliffhanger ending as it’s a duet, so I’ll force myself to read the next one to see how it works out. But it’s doubtful this will be on my reread list.

Another weak heroine who needs a man. That’s the only thing I can think to describe her. Seriously, we get so much talk from her, but no action! She’s literally a doormat who can’t do anything. ANYTHING!

P.s: the betraying body syndrome is old already.

1.5 Romance, absolutely not; there is nothing romantic about this duet. I am an avid reader of the criminal underworld genre and expect more from the story and it's character's than many readers who read this genre.

This story could have been so much more if the author would have written characters that were noteworthy, but instead wrote yet another Bratva story with a spineless heroine and and an over the top egotistical, self-righteous anti-hero who does no wrong in his eyes and who considered himself smarter and more cunning than anyone else.

Willow's character was a complete train wreck that talked a hardline but who submitted herself to one bad decision after the other. Her ability to make the right decisions in her life was non-existent until the last 25 pages of this duet. This author took another female heroine and turned her into nothing but a blubbering, sex starved puppet that let EVERYONE pull her strings. Why are author's afraid of writing stories that include strong female characters instead of women who Oooooh and Ahhhh over how handsome their tormentors are, how big their cocks are and how wet they make them within the first 20 pages of a book? No normal woman, even fictional should be reduced to a pathetic needy character so soon in a story that is over 900 pages long.

Leo's character was a very dark character that was cold, heartless and self-centered. He had as much empathy as a cockroach, was a pathological liar (refused to share any of the truth with Willow until he was forced to) and the demeanor of an arrogant as.......hole through both of these books. I've read novels that contain self-absorbed, very dark, cold hearted, ruthless, unapologetic, H, but at some point had at least one redeeming factor, but Leo's character had none, unless you count the last 2 chapters. He treated Willow as nothing but a possession he needed to use to take over the Bratva from the man who killed his brother. He then proceeded to forcible marry her, knock her up to produce an heir to carry the Bratva into the future...blah blah blah...same ole story. He was a master at shifting "the blame game to Willow" making her appear even more weaker than she was. He never took responsibility for what he did, was unapologetic regarding his methodology and expects her to THANK HIM for saving her. OMG

I literally skimmed some of this book because it got so repetitious and predictable. This author usually writes some really entertaining novels, but this one fell flat on it's face.

Buckle up Buttercups, because I have THOUGHTS.

It’s not like me to totally pan a book, but when I tell you that this book is garbage from the first page to the last I mean that it is truly, unrelentingly, awful.

I have NEVER wanted a main character to die as much as I wanted Leo to. I love mafia and underworld romance novels, but in order to be a romance novel, there has to be some degree of actual romance. All there is in this book is coercion, assault, and trauma.

The lead “alpha” male Leo, has zero redeeming qualities. About 80% of his dialogue with the heroine goes something like this:

Willow: “Fuck you, you don’t know anything about me!”
Leo: “I know you better than you know yourself, girl.”

Willow: “I just want to be loved and wanted.”
Leo: “I have never and will never love anyone, ever.”

Willow: “I hate you!”
Leo: “But I can still get you wet and f*ck you. So ha!” (I’m paraphrasing)

After their first escapade, the sex scenes begin to border on assault in every iteration. I’m down for a reluctant heroine, but this girl is constantly being emotionally abused and belittled by this piece of trash man.

The side characters feel underdeveloped and clumsy, the dialogue is repetitive, and the plot is so predictable you’ll be left wondering why you were forced to slog through 343 pages of a 347-page novel to finally get to the “big reveal.”

I like Mafia Tropes in Romances so I decided to read this...what I liked the suspense entwined with the mafia world. What I didn't like: the heroine was married when she had sex with the hero in a restaurant. That meant she cheated on her husband. The husband cheated first which makes them both wrong. So with the book starting with badly behaving characters, I hoped the romance between the hero and heroine would be compelling but it was bland. I found the mafia revenge trope more compelling than the romance.

I need to rant so here we go

first off: youre telling me I’m supposed to ship this???? she’s a DOORMAT. if I wanted to read a submissive woman pretending to be a badass, this would have been it. but alas, I hated her and I hated him just as much.

I’m not above reading mafia books or villain men, but this book failed at every point. there was no SIGHT of redemption, he was the same, and so was she. And I’m sorry but the whole, “I hate him but my body betrays me” is so exhausting. They had sex almost every chapter at one point, and I’m sorry, but I’m calling rape. I don’t care if she enjoyed it, she didn’t want it to happen. just because she’s wet means shit, I hated this book.

there was so much sexual assault I cannot believe this book has such high ratings. Is this the standard???

also her getting pregnant??? FUCK THIS SHIT. he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. and he’s just as abusive as her ex. forcing her into marriage was also such a turn off.

this entire book makes me want to throw up, and I have low hopes for society if people think THIS IS OKAY.

I think I got some of my shit out of my chest. bye.

Not what I expected at alk

Yes I thought he would be domineering and such but he treats Willow like crap. He marries and gets her pregnant while she is just a doormat. You end up finding out that Willow actually is a mafia princess from the other family (competition). She doesn't find out until the end of this book.

I will not be reading the next as I skimmed reviews and it's more of the same he treats her awful, she takes it. Rinse and repeat. It would be fine if he actually had feeling for her.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Wow. I didn't know a blurb could be such a lying cunnt. 😂 not thing about it is accurate. She does not run away with just the clothes on her back after walking in on her physically abusive husband cheating on her. She sleeps bin the same bed they were effing on that night and she cooks him an dinner after the fact. Ew. Gross. And she did not fall in the dudes lap, she was a temp waitress serving him a drink and then she effs the guy. What a hot mess 🙈

If you are looking for a Bratva boss who is cold, calculating and unbending, then... this book is for you.

Not quite 4 stars (probably 3.75), but it was a interesting read. I would have rated it higher if not for the fact that the blurb is incorrect and misleading and that I found myself not liking the MMC.

Leo is cold, unfeeling and honest to the point of cruelty. Willow has just come out of a seven year verbally abusive marriage so it’s understandable she is weak and has low confidence. I did appreciate it took time for her to stat to get her voice back.

I did enjoy reading it although I’m on the fence about liking Leo. I’m intrigued enough to read the second book and see how the characters and the relationship are developed.

This is a mafia forced marriage romance I mostly liked it the writing was good but the two main characters pissed me off so much and this did affect my overall enjoyment. Leo Solovev is Bratva and he has an agenda one that involves Willow Reeves soon to be Powers. Willow is in an unhappy abusive marriage and she wants out but her husband has no intentions of letting her go that is until Leo enters the picture totally taking over and giving her little choice regarding her future by his side.

It’s not a romantic endeavour Leo has every intention of using Willow for his own ends whilst at the same time keeping her in the dark and ignorant. He’s actually quite verbally horrible to Willow and I thought his words at times were unnecessarily cruel. I know he wanted to stay detached and emotionally distant seeing love as a weakness but he could have still done all this without constantly belittling and humiliating her.

Leo’s emotions were all over the place and so chaotic I found it difficult to get a handle on him as a person. I disliked how remote he acted towards Willow and he sometimes acted so contradictory one minute gentle then he’d flip back to type baiting and name-calling I think mostly as a form of self-preservation and Willow really didn’t deserve that behaviour from him. I wanted to see some real possessiveness from him and a bit of honesty wouldn’t have gone amiss either. I just felt he would have got further and more cooperation explaining rather than rail-roading.

Which brings me to Willow man this girl gave me whiplash her behaviour is literally tied to her emotions which were bloody erratic she came across as extremely childish and very argumentative she acted without thinking and is definitely one of those TSTL heroines she constantly places herself into dangerous situations mostly through sheer stupidity never knows when to just zip it and play ball and man she crumpled easily when it came to Leo and yes I do get her background played a part but girl please have some self-respect.

So despite my sheer annoyance with both Leo and Willow this still kept me turning the pages these two did have some red-hot chemistry together that’s for sure. I will also definitely be reading the conclusion So this does end on a cliffhanger but book two is already out. Overall for me, this was OK and did have equal positives and negatives.

So...
This one wasn't the greatest. It took me soooo long to finish. I found Leo to be an arrogant hard ass, unbudgeable and Willow to be an easy idiot.
She displayed no strength of character and nothing that made her stand out. She was pathetic.
The end was really good though and I couldn't wait to get to book 2...which I'll review in a bit.
The thing is book 2 is really great so despite this book being bleh, it has to be read in order to follow the flow in the next book.
It was well written and fairly interesting but seriously lacking and almost one dimensional.

i … don’t even know what to say. i’ve read plenty of mafia dark romances in my time but this was the worst one yet. over 400 pages in book one and yet the author gave no solid reason to root for the MC and Leo. MC jumps from one toxic marriage to the next. the lies? the coerced sex scenes? overall this book was very underwhelming

DNF AT 15% (audiobook)

Story does not happen as described in the description. She did not turn away the moment she finds her husband cheating. She stands there and he gets mad at her for interrupting him.
Then she fucks a guys at work.

The (m)narrator sounded way too much like another that I hate and ruined the experience for me.

Great start to a new series. Willow walked in on her husband cheating and left him. She is trying to start over but it isn’t easy, one night while she is temping for a waitress she meets Leo, the Don of the Solovev Bratva. Sparks fly and they share a steamy night together. The next day she gets a call from her temp agency about a job. She is shocked when it is Leo and what is offer is, will she accept, does she have a choice? Fast-paced read with intense chemistry and steamy scenes. I loved it.

This book just confused me all the way though until the end but even then I was still left puzzled.

And Willow really annoyed me she kept saying how much she hated Leo and that she didn't want to be in another controlling relationship but yet was happy to keep spreading her legs or dropping to her knees whenever Leo commanded.
She really didn't have put up much of a protest and I think she should have put up more of a fight and have abit more self respect

Really a 2.5. I liked the story line but did not like the characters. I can only take so much of a woman who acts as a door mat. It's truly a turn off. I understand that this character was coming out of a bad marriage but she had every opportunity to get a backbone and not remain weak. The male lead could have been a bit more likeable but he just came off as an ass. Not surprised that things ended the way they did.

Willow catches her husband cheating and wants to leave. She takes a job at a temp agency. She lands a job as a server at a fancy restaurant. She’s assigned to a private party where she meets Leo. They have sex. Leo gets her unmarried. Leo forces her to marry him because she is the key to him taking over the kingdom. Willow falls for Leo. Leo is an asshole. More drama and then a cliffhanger. Good but not the best.
