But that won’t be enough to keep him safe. Because our little baby boy is the heir to two thrones. And there are a lot of bad men out there who want to stop him from reaching them.
So I ran into the mountains. Into a nightmare of my own making. I thought I’d gotten away… But I was wrong.
Even there, in the freezing cold middle of nowhere, Leo found me. And when he did, I lied to keep my baby safe. But I should’ve learned a long time ago: Leo Solovev knows everything.
Except for how this story will end.
RAVAGED THRONE is Book Two of the Solovev Bratva Duet. Make sure you’ve read the beginning of Leo and Willow’s story in Book One, RAVAGED CROWN, before beginning this one!
Nicole Fox writes smart, sexy mafia romance novels. She is a crazy cat lady in her late 30s with a coffee addiction, an overactive imagination, and a husband who somehow puts up with her impulsive need to keep buying new plants for their house.
I was hoping to see some progression in this second book regarding Willow and Leo’s relationship but I actually think things got worse. They seem to be stuck in a loop of toxicity both going out of the way to hurt the other and refusing to be honest about their feelings. Leo especially pissed me off he seemed to really get off on psychologically torturing willow making her think all sorts and when angry totally reverting to form with his constant put-downs and don’t even get me started on his behaviour with Britt totally playing on all Willows insecurities and doubts and then he wonders why she won’t cooperate.
When things don’t go his way Leo either sexes Willow up or locks her in her room before then poking at all of the holes in her confidence and he doesn’t know the meaning of the word apologise it’s not in his vocabulary. His standard answer is it’s the Bratva way and it got old. I also detested Britt and thought Leo definitely gave her too much leeway. I know all the background but I did think she and Leo were intentionally cruel when it came to their game-playing and I hated Leo for not putting a stop to Britts antics. It screamed disrespect.
Willow again reverted back to form despite initially seeming stronger she’s soon back to tantruming like a toddler mixed with melting at Leo’s feet and she's definitely up there with one of the most highly strung heroines I’ve ever encountered in a romance novel.
The writing with this is fine it’s the bloody characters here that were doing my head in and this then totally affected the whole experience. I also didn’t really believe in Leo’s affection for willow yes his lust 100% but any finer feelings nope I wasn’t convinced. And Willow is still acting TSTL instead of leaving things to people who have experience she always thinks she knows better her inability to follow orders is what puts others in danger. Man, these two I just wanted to scream at them in complete frustration.
But despite the above, this did keep my attention and it was well written I was just also hoping for some humanity and vulnerability from Leo and some stability and acceptance from Willow and maybe some bloody romance that might have been nice as well, as god knows these two are so far from that place it’s ridiculous. I mean I don’t even think Leo verbally expressed his love for Willow once here if he did it was so fleeting I must have missed it.
Overall this duet was ok and it is well written just perhaps not quite my cup of tea. I still mostly enjoyed it and there were some really dark and tragic moments and it struck a chord enough to keep my turning those pages for the eventual conclusion.
1.5 I didn't think this duet could get much worse, but it did.
Geez, book two of the duet was just a continuation of book one. The two main characters lack honesty and communication which are the foundation for any relationship. Leo continues to lie and deflect refusing to be honest with Willow until the very end of this book.
Willow has a 11 month stint with her Bratva mother Anya, who abandoned her as a child. Mummy Dearest successfully turns her into a fighting machine replica to only have her cave into Leo within five minutes of him kidnapping her AGAIN! How pathetic is that? She doesn't even get a few chapters of this book where her character stands up to Leo, but immediately is f......king him. Is it really necessary in the 21st century to write about women who are constantly victimized by these men over and over again? I will continue to look for authors' who support strong women in this genre instead of turning them into pathetic ghosts of themselves.
The rest of the story follows suit with some basic explanation of who Ariel is and how it has taken over 8 years of her being undercover with her fiancés' murderer, who is Leo's brother. Nothing is noted how the egotistical Leo explains why in over 8 years he still hasn't been able to bring down his enemy and his brother's killer.
The back and forth banter between H and h can be interesting, but became predictable and boring One minute they were screwing each other's brains out and one minute they hated each other guts. Willow's jealousy of other women is just classic (deer in the headlights Willow) which makes her character even more pathetic. The blame game continues in book 2 with Leo always shifting the blame for their son's circumstances and the fact that he hasn't been able to overthrow his enemy to Willow; never taking any responsibility for any of his actions or lack thereof. She being the doormat who apparently enjoys self-depravation becomes apologetic, which made me want to throw up.
This is no love story between these two characters because Leo is a blank slate when it comes to that emotion. He may have respect for her and be attracted sexually but love....absolutely not. Leo's only real desire involves the children who will be born into the nightmare of Leo's Bratva which means more to him than anything else. Having children to continue his legacy is all he cares about. I am not sure why this author painted Leo so cold by books' end. As in book one, I skimmed parts of book 2 because some of the content added nothing to the story or to the characters, just lengthened it.
Note to self: heroine is married at start of the book. Cannot give hero the gift of claiming her innocence for himself, a part of her will always belong to another man. Hard pass.
This book was so awful, I thought the characters would get redeemed or something better but it was the same shit as the first book, he says somes shit because he’s an “alpha male with no feelings” and he doesn’t care about her, she gets angry and suddenly there’s a “hint” of hope that she’ll leave his ass or something and she’s like “oooh I’m better then this” AND SHE DOWSNT FCKING LEAVE! And he’s like all cocky and says yeah I knew it and they have sex and all is forgiven. Nah fck that, none of the characters had any good qualities and the plot line between Ariel and Leo where Ariel is LITERALLY the ex wife of his brother but she sits on his lap in front of her and kisses him and seduces him and he doesn’t do SHIT about it and he’s like I was just tryna show her that she does love me that’s it. No fck off and the main female lead completely forgives him and Ariel when they tell her she’s “just” the wife of his dead brother. I’m so done, congrats these books were a complete waste of my time and if you are planning on reading the second book after the first one hoping the characters get better, don’t they legit get worse. Bye lol
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I am so annoyed with this series. Was this all a joke? I absolutely hate Willow. She has no spine, she is written as an actual slave to her sexual desires like she literally has no control, no freaking respect for herself. It was honestly embarrassing how she is constantly throwing herself at a man who continuously tell her she is an object/possession. The first book was worse, this one I had hope that she would be redeemed but no she is still so easily pushed around. Hated it.
I finished this book just to make sure I won’t read this author again. Willow the female lead character was written so stupidly. I absolutely hate when the female characters are head strong, naïve and just plain stupid. Oh, sex is the answer to everything. No this author is not for me.
Lots of mafia drama, surprise revelations and a good ending with the bad guy getting punished. I still was underwhelmed by the romance in this sequel but I loved the epilogue
Ravaged Throne is book two in Nicole Fox’s Solovev Bratva duology. Book one was exciting and sexy, but book two falls a little bit short for me.
At the end of Ravaged Crown, Willow was taken by her birth mother, dangerous Bratva leader Anya Mikhailov. Of course Leo is furious that his pregnant wife was taken, and at the beginning of the book, he’s plotting to take Willow back. There’s a time jump which moves us forward eleven months and was a little shocking for me. It means we missed out on quite a few important events. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, I’ll just say that this book mainly focuses on Leo getting revenge of Spartak Belov for murdering his brother Pavel all those years ago. We are also waiting to see if Leo and Willow can find happiness together and whether or. It their marriage will last.
Ravaged Throne is satisfying in that we get closure. There’s some sadness along the way as well as some surprises. But the book is a little lacking for me. It feels like the author rushed to get the writing finished. There are quite a few errors. The grammatical errors don’t really take away from the joy of reading, but there is one glaring continuity mistake and at least one instance where a fact is revealed about Belov that doesn’t make sense based on the context of the writing. And call me old-fashioned or traditional or whatever, but one of the major concerns for Willow is that she doesn’t believe that Leo loves her … and he never says it to her! They do have their HEA, but I would’ve liked a little more.
While I’m certainly glad I read this book, and I recommend both books, I’ve come to expect a bit more from Nicole Fox. If you read the books, please let me know what you think! I’d
What a great ending to this duet. Nicely rounded the story up, Got a bit annoyed at Willow though. She either wanted to fuck his brains out or run away. Great twist at the end that worked out really well for Leo.
This story was a rollercoaster of emotions... does he care or not care, will they save everyone, who is Brit, who is Agent 26?? All my questions were answered by the end but man, I was an emotional wreck at parts.
Leo is a man you want to punch and ride at the same time. He is so possessive and controlling, but you realize he does it all because he cares so much! He is afraid of getting hurt again like he was when Pavel died. Willow has grown to be so strong and confident, until Leo questions her and then you see her feelings leak through for him. Individually, both characters bring so much but together, they are fire!
Stunning conclusion to this series. Read the first, Ravaged Crown, before this one or you’ll be lost. More great characters and jaw dropping twist and turns. This will take your breath away. It’s not often I’m Surprised by a plot but this one did it in style. Excellent reading
It was a definitely a ride of trying to control the anger I felt at Leo’s stubbornness BUT it had a nice ending and that kind of makes up for all of it so yeah overall it was good
I enjoyed this duo series, by Willow really grated on me. What a wimpy heroine, like how many times can you stuff plans up without getting yourself killed, really?
This is the second book in this duet and should be read in order. Willow has taken her son and is on the run from her husband. Leo won’t give up until he has Willow back again. Fast-paced read with lot of drama, steam and emotion. Great characters with plenty of depth and chemistry and a fast-paced story with lots of twists and turn. I liked it.
I’m really not sure how to rate this. After reading the first one I was included to read the second because I knew it would be a redemption story. But it actually really wasn’t.
I mean maybe the last ten pages … though even then I still had no love for any of them.
Willow is really super gross. I probably dislike her the most of all the characters I’ve read.
Let me explain- as a mother in real life - if I had to go to the extreme of LIE to the father of my child and say that my child is dead to protect them- then I would die with that secret. Not be having a root and get so confused that I’d blurt it out.
No that’s not realistic and it’s also really polarizing. I hate when authors bring in children. There are so many bad parents out there already I really don’t want to read about them in fictional stories that are supposed to be an enjoyable escape with a cup of coffee when I get a few hours in during the day. No.
Willow is constantly wet. She obvious she enjoys being dominated. Pushed around. Spoken to like garbage and the tap is just on constantly.
Leo is patronizing - an emotionless robot who literally doesn’t change at all. Shows Willow 0 respect and forced her into a wedding and loads of other irrelevant things.
Additionally
Willow is so dense she literally doesn’t use protection once and then is shoooook even she’s pregnant. No NOOOOOOOOOOO Common Give me a break.
I mean - it’s a mafia story - I get it. But really this type of “I take what I want and don’t ask”/ “ I am man / I have no feelings / I do killing” is beating a dead horse. There’s nothing new or exciting or different about it.
I mean each to their own on what they enjoy reading.
I don’t want to offend the author either. This is just my opinion based on my own life and what I enjoy to read. The story is well edited and put together. And you can see the dedication put into the writing.
Are you looking for a book where the man is always right and barely has any remorse for the decisions he makes be “he is bravata” then this is the book for you. A woman who continues to get stepped on and just can ever resist or takes months to get stronger and loses all her training in FIVE SECONDS! Then this is the book for you. What happened to strong exciting women in books nowadays.
First book was trash. This was no better. Absolutely no character growth whatsoever. The h was still a pathetic spineless whimp with body betrayal syndrome. H was still a vike, disgusting, gaslighting abuser.
Skimmed mostly for closure and lost interest even in that. Complete and utter waste of time. I assure you, you’ll have a better time reading the back of a shampoo bottle.
Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Trope: captive, forced marriage Angst: 😱😱😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥1\2
Fantastic conclusion to the duet! Lots of action, some twists, and lots of hot smexy times. Loved hoe the FMC grew and became a stronger version of herself. Nicole Fox can always be counted on for a great read.
Plot: Leo has been searching for Willow for almost a year now and finally locates her. She's been with her birth mother, Anya, and has changed, maybe for the better, maybe not. She's given birth to their son and has started training to become stronger and more suited for life in the Bratva, but Leo is concerned that she's not ready for the confrontation to come. No matter what, he'll keep her safe throughout everything.
Commentary: So Willow has trained herself into a badass female Bratva boss...except she hasn't. She has some combat skills now, gained from training at her mom's place, but no experience, and really, it sounds like what she has is the kind of training I could get from taking my self-defense classes seriously plus a healthy dose of anger and grief. She seems to make decisions based on jealousy, spite, and hope rather than any sort of logic or foresight. But to be fair, nobody tells her anything. Leo still hasn't really explained what's going on (there are big reveals up until the very end of the book) and he hasn't told her he loves her, even though he's thought it once at the end of the first book and once in this book. He's still mean to her under the guise of causing the proper reaction and that's all the information that she has to work with. But the part that gets me the most is that their poor son is left with an increasing number of poor caretakers. Considering the danger she's in, Willow should never have left him with anyone. Her sociopathic mother? No way! What was she thinking? And the fact that the villain had him for over a month? I know Leo "had plans" but considering that those plans were taking a while and he didn't seem to share them fully with anyone, I'm not sure why he was surprised that Willow snuck along to the final confrontation. Which of course was stupid. Both characters are distasteful, in my opinion. Willow is immature and bratty, although I can understand her reactions in some cases. Leo is mean and arrogant and never lets up. They seem toxic together. She can't say no to him but won't listen to him and he doesn't seem to respect her at all. The story felt like one long argument.
I was excited after finishing Ravaged Crown to see whether Willow and Leo were able to work things out. I was a bit thrown by Ravaged Throne as it began eleven months after the end of the first book. I liked that Leo was determined to get Willow back, so I could see that he actually had real feelingss for Willow. I liked the change in Willow and that she was a stronger person. She was learning to keep some things to herself and didn’t let Leo back in immediately. They were definitely a stronger duo, but I felt Willow was selfish and would do things without truly thinking. As she was letting Leo in she should've confided in him a bit better and learned to trust him.
This was a good conclusion to the series. I didn't love it as much as I wanted too as I felt it was a little predictable and the characters didn't trust their instincts or each other fully. I did enjoy the way Fox built this world and will definintely dive into more of her stories in the future!
Genre: Forced Marriage/Mafia Romance Book Length: Novel POV: Dual Setting: Mostly mountains Endearment: Some Russian ones Spice Level: Medium Frequency of Spice: Medium Angst Level: High Standalone/Duet/Series: Duet Cliffhanger: No Epilogue: Yes My Review: This was a good story, however, I had some issues with Leo. I was hoping he would warm up and love Willow like she deserved, but he was just so cold and hard on her almost until the end. He never even admitted he loved her, which was really disappointing. Willow transformed into a wonderfully strong woman and Leo often patronized and mocked her for it. There was some good spice and a lot of angsty moments, but it was the heartfelt love and emotions I was lacking.
OOP look at me being a whore for trauma and vindictive revenge.
Like this book wasnt even that good but it was so heavy that it kinda hit??? Also loved the man being so desperate, we stan. I'm still not sure where I'd put Willow on the scale of stupid to badass bc she has her moments, but overall... yeah stupid.
The baby helped me enjoy this more, despite the fact that we see the baby for like all of 2 seconds
Willow and Leo, in the Solovev Bratva finale. Lots of hate and war and make up sex. These two go through separation due to another Bratva kidnapping Wllow as she is now pregnant with the future heir to the Solovev Bratva but Willow was actually born in the Mikhailov Bratva. So sex, war, kidnapping and imprisonment. The hate and makeup sex gets old very quickly. Also Willow tries to escape every other chapter it seems.
