An award winning author, Sandra Owens lives in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Her family and friends often question her sanity, but have ceased being surprised by what she might get up to next. She’s jumped out of a plane, flown in an aerobatic plane while the pilot performed thrilling stunts, has flown Air Combat (two fighter planes dogfighting, pretending to shoot at each other with laser guns), and rode a Harley motorcycle for years. She regrets nothing.
Sandra is a 2013 Golden Heart® Finalist for her contemporary romance, CRAZY FOR HER. CRAZY FOR HER is the first book in her bestselling series about the men of K2 Special Services. Book two, SOMEONE LIKE HER, is available now, and book three, FALLING FOR HER, is due out this fall. In addition to contemporary romances, Sandra writes Regency romances.
Positive thoughts: - I loved the chemistry between Kade and Harper, and although Kade really tried to fight it, he couldn't keep away from Harper. (and we get his hot and cold ways that only confuse and irritate Harper, but we know what's really going on in his head). - We get some more of the lovely little Everly, she is just so adorable. I can't wait for the 3rd book with her and her fireman dad! - I loved Duke, that goofy K9 that brought a lot of laughter (something I love to see in a suspense book, it tones it down when we need it).
Negative thoughts: - I wish I got a bit more of Kade's Delta Force special skills, felt that part was a bit bland when the action bits came.
Overall: - This is a suspense romance, with an awesome K9. Fast and easy read that kept me turning those pages, never wanting to leave. - Sandra keeps you hooked with the suspense and the romance. And boy oh boy the chemistry was fabulous. - I would say this book could be read as a stand-a-lone, but seriously you'll not want to miss the 1st book. - Sandra kept the violence light and TW for rape were there but subtle.
Kade is finally leaving the service to live with his brothers. He is just now getting over the death of his good friend, Harper, when he gets a call from her. She's alive and he knows that she would never have done what she did if it weren't life or death. Kade takes off to her rescue and to make sure she stays alive.
Harper is running for her life and even though she had to fake her own death to protect her dad, she knows that in the end, it will be worth it if she can bring down the guys who are after her. Harper is trying to make sure her good friend can get away from these bad guys and when she does that, she accidentally sics them on herself!
Kade and Harper have a strange relationship. Despite them being BFFs, it is more of a good friend who you're attracted to. I wouldn't necessarily say they were best friends. Kade's brothers are also somewhat involved since they want Harper to keep breathing too.
This is a story about mystery, romance, trust, and love. Kade and Harper have great chemistry and I love them together. You get to see characters from book one too and I can't wait for the next one.
Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆ This is the second book in the series, and whilst you could read it as a standalone, why miss out on the goodness of book one?
Harper and Kade – plus K-9 goofball Duke – are a match made in adversity, but deserving of heaven. It is fast-paced, chemistry-laden, and the tension and danger are offset by the family and fun, as well as the burgeoning romance.
I am a big fan of romantic suspense, but also very grateful when an author has the skill to ratchet tension up as well as down, and to turn up the heat, but also enable the plot to play out undisturbed. Sandra Owens does this with great style, meaning that I pretty much read this in one sitting – thank goodness I was on leave and didn't have to get up too early the next morning!
I am already looking forward to meeting up with the K-9 Defenders in their next adventure romance.

Her Delta Force Protector by Sandra Owens is the second book in the K-9 Defenders series. Sandra once again proves why she is a best selling romantic suspense writer. This story is filled with characters you will come to love, a dog that will have your cracking up and a mystery to keep you on your toes. Kade and Harper have been friends for years. She was in the army but not combat. However she understood Kade’s military lifestyle and the fact he can help protect her when she has no where else to turn. Kade lives with his two brothers. I love how she describes their home. Everly aka the pickle princess and Duke, the K9 drop out provide plenty of humor between the action scenes.
I liked both characters. Sandra was courageous but not stupid. Kade was dreamy. And when he called in his friends to help, the action ramps up.
Sexual content – 3 a couple scenes Violence – 3 her friend is beat up, drugged, and filmed Drug/Alcohol use – her friend is drugged Language 4 the f word was used 19 times. Sh&t – 13 times, D@mn - 40

Her Delta Force Protector (K-9 Defenders, #2) by Sandra Owens 4 stars M/F Romance I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

What a wonderful story. Harper faked her death to protect her father and when things got dangerous again for her, she reached out to Kade for help. He was her best friend and a former Delta op. He was shocked and mad that she hadn't called for help before but went immediately to help her. What follows is adventure, drama, stupid men, some hot sex and fellow teammates who help catch the bad guys. There were some wonderful characters in the story.- Parker's daughter Everly, Tristan and his girlfriend, Skylar, of course Kade and Harper. It was fun to see the fall in love but he was denying any part of it. His brothers wised him up so he could have his HEA. A good and exciting story
I got this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review
Almost everyone, including Kade Church (former Delta Force operator) thinks Harper is dead. Harper witnessed some things she absolutely should not have seen and to get away from the people now threatening her life - she fakes her own death. Only her father knows the truth - but the bad guys also seem to know she's alive. She goes to the only person who might be able to help - Kade. She and Kade have developed a close friendship - it is almost love for them - but Kade has kept himself apart because he believes he's not good enough for her or for any romantic relationship.
Facing Harper's death has been hard for Kade - and finding out she is really alive changes everything for him. He finds himself less able to hold back from wanting more than just friendship with her. He wants everything - but still doesn't believe he can be with her without hurting her.
I love Sandra Owens books and the canines that are in them! The dog in this book plays a little less of a role than in some of the books - but he is still awesome. What I could have left behind was Kade's general attitude. I am very much over men who want to save the women in their lives from their own future bad behavior. Its just meh. I do love these particular brother though - and I am really looking forward to the last book in this series and what looks like an excellent spin into another one.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
dog is amazing creatures, they are intelligent and loyal.
duke is an example to skip to being a working dog. i knew one, his name is popcorn, he was trained as guide dog, however, he thought it’s is not the right for him even he is born into this, he just give away then doing a little as a companion dog, he is good looking guy that catch your heart ever time, a sweet big boy.
i am sure he is another duke. what’s next, the younger brother wimpy adorable little E, then a cat and working dog again.
Her Delta Force Protector, the second in a series, is a good read that I put away in a few hours. It follows the middle Church brother, Kane, who is finally leaving special forces to live with his brothers in their childhood home. The heroine, Harper, is supposedly his best friend, and your story begins when he gets a call from her asking for help. Since she supposedly died a few months earlier, it's a bit of a shock.
But is it? For a guy who supposedly buried his best friend, Kane is pretty blasé about seeing her again. If I thought my BFF has died and then miraculously was given a second chance, I would've grabbed her up in a bear hug, alternating between wanting to shake her for scaring me and sobbing thanks to the sweet baby Jesus. Instead of it was just a little too pragmatic, almost as if the author needed to cut that part to make room for the suspense.
Anyway, once Harper and Kade are back in his small town, we get to see the characters we met in book 1 of the series, which is great. Thankfully, the author spares us most of the shenanigans that the colorful townfolk got into in the first book (it fit there given that the protagonists were the local police chief and the sheriff, but it would have been extra here). The time is instead spent building a plan to catch the bad guys who are after Harper and in Harper and Kade deciding to give friends-with-benefits a go.
If you know me at all, you know I just love love love the friends-to-lovers trope, and you know that the ones that reach five-star status are the ones where the moment the couple goes from platonic to physical is filled with wonder and a sense of homecoming. I don't entirely feel that Harper and Kade fully got there for me. In fact, the "best friends" demarcation is a little unbelievable here. Friends, yes, but besties? They've known each other just a year, and there's this expectation that once Harper is safe again, they'll go their separate ways. Physical relationship or not, that's just not BFF behavior.
All that said, I really like Kade and Harper as a couple. They do have chemistry, and I loved their ability to trust each other as well as to tease and banter. I just with the best friend part had played out a little more convincingly.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
Before diving into the third story in this series, I realized that I’d never put up a review for the second one… *eye roll at self*. So, first off let’s talk about Her Delta Force Protector, and what an amazingly intense story this one is – along with a humorous one as well with one particular goofball named Duke involved. He might be a pup that loves to play more than anything else, but when he’s needed to be brave and heroic, this K-9 boot camp dropout shows he learned those lessons well (just that playing with his people is more fun). I did a quick reread over the weekend to be sure I was remembering this story correctly, and I’m so glad I did since To Hold and Protect is up next with that release in a few days now. I love this world, and it’s always fun to return to it.
A few weeks ago, Kade, had to emotionally bury his friend, Harper. Today… Harper gets in touch with Kade, and she is very much alive but definitely in danger, as are those she cares about. Between feeling incredulous, angry, and relieved, Kade brings Harper to his childhood home for protection and to help her stop those that left her for dead after beating her to the point of unconsciousness. The danger to them all has only just begun with the wrong people discovering that Harper didn’t conveniently die.
I was so easily swept up in Her Delta Force Protector for the danger, the suspense, the growing attraction between friends, and one adorable dog who becomes a hero when needed. Plus we get to visit with a sweet little “Pickle Princess” and the couple from the first story once again. It’s all hands on deck as Kade draws family and friends to the fight for Harper’s life… and maybe two friends have a different future ahead of them if they’re willing to risk falling in love for a lifetime.
The villains are truly vile, the danger very real, and the relationships are all strengthened as Kade and Harper work together (along with Kade’s brothers and friends) to bring down a very nasty, evil group. If you love your Romantic Suspense full of danger, intrigue, puzzle pieces, and a cute pup who just wants to play, then you’re going to love this one.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Very enjoyable, with a cast of lovable, relatable characters, and a hero with a penchant for joking but wounded in so many ways, “Her Delta Force Protector”, by Sandra Owens (Carina Press), explores the “friends-to-lovers” trope, in a deadly adventure where even the villains have a personality. I liked the transition from friendship to love and how we’re shown how both Kade and Harper experience it differently. It’s great seeing them enjoying themselves just by being and laughing together. Kade is a wonderful hero – really protective, stoic, alpha in a sort of easygoing way, but turning lethal when needed. I loved having Kade’s point of view, realize the extent his self-image is conditioned for his troubled childhood. The idea that he would make a bad husband and his general reluctance to commitment and love stem from the childhood abandonment events and the feelings of rejection, which he masks with a mask of joviality. He’s a paradox in some ways, because he’s so good with his family and friends, including Harper, yet he’s extremely wary of a deep, meaningful intimacy. It was fun to watch him beginning to see Harper in a new light, becoming more and more attracted, and trying to fight or downplay it. I really enjoyed the balance between Kade’s serious issues and the humor, teasing and light banter. I liked the Blue Ridge Mountains setting, the secondary characters and Duke’s personality as a smarter dog than anyone would guess. As usual with in Sandra Owens, the characters, interactions and dialogue are entertaining. The affection, fondness, love between these vibrant, full of life people, is really great to watch, with the added pleasure of introducing one of the goofiest dogs ever.
A woman fearing for her life, fakes her death. Not knowing what to do she calls the only person who she feels safe with, Kade Church. They became friends over the last year and Kade was devastated when his best friend Harper Jansen was killed. When he receives a call from his dead friend, he moves immediately to make her safe. As he makes plans to protect her, what he didn’t expect was the change of his feelings from friends to something more.
Things I loved… I loved Kade! I loved Kade and Harper together! I loved the way Sandra Owens brings these friends to lovers in a slow burn with humor and vulnerability to each other. How intimate and close they become. It’s almost heartbreaking how Kade resists his feelings and why. The intensity of his desire to protect her above all else and his fight to make her free of those trying to kill her. Ms Owens brings all of that in this unputdownable romantic suspense.
I loved the relationship between Kade and his brothers, his niece Everly, his brothers in arms and the new friends he meets. I loved the guys from Talon security and can only hope there is a foreshadow of a future series there.
This is the second book in the K-9 Defenders series and though it can be read as a stand-alone I think reading the first book will give even more enjoyment. I highly recommend this book and this series. I’m looking forward to Parker, the third brother’s story. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
🐕🏍️Harper is dumb for a lieutenant. I'm pretty sure the author made her army just to say that they knew each other for awhile because it didn't impact anything else.
🐕🏍️Kade's reasons for not wanting a serious relationship is he loves his solitary life too much and too secretive. On his mind he's some kind of broody hermit, but we're not seeing that cause his character is not portrayed like that. Actually I can't really grasp at his personality which I really hate in a book. So I'm getting whiplashed.
🐕🏍️I'm getting fed up of Kade's treatment of Harper. I hate it when they do things intentionally to hurt someone and get upset when the person is not that hurt. Like "I should be the one calling for no strings, how dare she isn't clinging to me", "how dare she's not brooding over my rejection" And ffs Harper should stop pursuing him.
🐕🏍️He's egoistic even while having sex. I was very uncomfortable.
🐕🏍️80% of the book, Kade acknowledged his feeling, Harper got kidnapped but he still has no intention to stay with her🙄
🐕🏍️Why they didn't give Kade the pep talk before?🙄
🐕🏍️And he finally found her patheticly drunk and crying after him.😒At this point It felt like Kade was doing Harper a pity like "oh well, you have me, I'll give you your dream family"😪 We didn't get to see his unrestrained feelings for Harper.

(4.5) Read in one sitting. I know sometimes I sound like a broken record when I say you can't go wrong with anything this author writes. That's because I have favorites and then never do me wrong. Are they perfect all the time, no. Do they entertain me and take me outside of my world - yes, every time, hence you can't go wrong. I was entranced with Kade and his team when met in book 1 (you can read this as a stand alone with no problem) and was super excited to get this book. I felt for Kade. Harper ummmm I liked her, but I am with Kade...if your in trouble why didn't you call me? You knew he was Special Forces. Loved getting to see everyone again from Kades family. The suspense was fantastic. Lovely goof ball Duke, our four legged seems to be pulling the wool over every ones eyes. I like a couple others wanted to see more of Kades team. I understand this was Kades and Harpers story and Kade was waiting for his papers to sever his service. Love the new security group Kade was meeting with and everything they brought to the table. Suspense, steam and family! This does not disappoint. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #herdeltaforceprotector #k-9defenders2 #sandraowens #carinapress-harlequin #netgalley
Wow all guns blazing in this story. Kade just finds out his best friend Harper is not dead after all! His shock and anger at this revelation is quickly quashed by his fierce need to protect her from the scum that made her life hell. His Delta Force training and experience is the perfect solution to a desperate situation. Their long term friendship is tested by their mutual attraction. Kade thinking he is not worthy of Harper, tries desperately to keep his distance but it was a losing battle especially when Harper eggs him on. They are fabulous together. I love the way the Church brothers band together when they most need each other. Duke the “goof ball” dog was an absolute star in this story. Loved him to bits. Sandra always has just the perfect mix of romance, drama, humour and heartbreak. That’s why she is a favourite author of mine. I also loved the scenery provided with mountains, cabins, lakes, bike rides. All so beautiful. I am always so excited when Sandra releases a new book, as they are thoroughly entertaining. I highly recommend this brilliant story. Bring on more!

4.5 hearts
The K-9 Defenders series doesn't have a trained K-9, rather smart dogs. The men have law enforcement connections and do use their dogs to help them. The series is about three brothers. The first book In His Protection features police chief, Tristan who has a loved dog, Fuzz. He has two brothers. Kade is a special ops military guy and Parker is the fire chief. Tristan is the oldest and lives in the family home with Parker and niece, Everly. Parker is also a successful artist.
Kade has just left the military and has a dog which belonged to his best friend, Harper. Harper died recently. Or so he thought until she shows up desperately needing help. Harper isn't stupid but she did put her nose into a bad situation which ends up with people trying to kill her. Luckily she has come to the right family for protection. Tristan stays with his fiance, Skye, leaving his living suite for Harper. They both work on her case. Kade and his new employers, also manage a big effort.
Things get very dangerous and Kade and Harper have to leave the family home, after an attack there. The team sets up a plan to get the bad guys which goes well. Except Harper wants to be more active than her skills warrant and gets herself into trouble.
I love this family and the found family they are creating. The brothers are wonderful people but there are issues from their childhood abandonment which they have to sort when they are looking at a relationship. The characters are well developed, including the dogs who are very much part of the family and the story. We get both Kade and Harper's point of view. I love the work Kade and Harper choose to do, now they are out of the military.
I am loving this series and the characters. They know sexy, too. The dogs are an added pleasure because they are pretty amazing.
I absolutely love the book Sandra Owens writes! Her storylines and characters are favorites of mine. This series just tugs at my heart. The brothers had a hard childhood, but they each have overcome. Their relationship is heartwarming.
One of my favorite romance tropes is friends to lovers! This book is Kade and Harper's story. I smiled, laughed, swooned and felt their pain. I couldn't wait to see how everything would work out! I was so not ready for the book to be over.
This world Sandra has created is easy to like. Seeing the characters from book to book makes me feel like I'm part of this small town. I look forward to Parker and Willow's story!
*Thank you NetGalley and Carina Press for the ARC of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.
Kade Church is ready to leave his life in Special Forces. He's returning to Marsville, North Carolina, hoping for a job with an elite security agency. But he's heartbroken that his BFF, Harper Jansen, died while he was gone. Then he finds she's alive and reaching out to him for help. So begins the crazy, exciting and scary adventure to protect Harper, eliminate the threat to her life and realize they have a future together. Great characters, especially his brothers Tristan and Parker, with Tristan's fiancee Skylar and niece Everly. And most importantly doofus dog, Duke. Duke's a real hero in this book. Fun, intense and loving this is a great book bringing two friends together as lovers.
This book was sad, sweet and spicy. This book is part of the K-9 Defenders series.
This story revolved around a guy named Kade Church. He is a Delta Force Operator. He has a K-9 Dog named Duke. Kade knew a woman named Wren Harper. Wren and Kade were friends. He was told that she was killed which broke his heart. It turns out that she is very much alive. She needs Kade’s help. Some bad guys are after her. Kade comes to the rescue because it’s in his DNA. Kade never thought of Wren as anything more than a friend. As they join forces he begins to realize that he has feelings for her. His K-9 Dog Duke proved that he knows his stuff. Kade and Wren had some spicy moments between them and the mystery was good as well. I enjoyed reading this book.
Made gets called out for a mission which left his best friend, Harper, stood up for the evening. They both are getting out of the Army, she a few weeks before him. When he returns he finds she has been killed but a few weeks later she contacts, in the run for her life, for help. She helped her roommate flee from a dirty cop who was forcing her to make porno films and finds later that a girl she saw with one of them was killed. He missed his appointment for his interview with Talon Security to get her, but Talon hires him and offers to help protect her. With the help of his brothers, teammates and Talon they are able to arrest everyone involved.
Another great read from Sandra. This time we get to meet the second Church brother, Kade and his best friend Harper.
Kade believes that Harper is dead so he is shocked when he receives a mobile call from her. She soon regrets bringing trouble to his home and family. They both regret they are falling in love and can’t tell the other person.
What will happen when the people who thought they’d killed Harper realise she’s very much alive and trying to bring them to justice? Can Kade protect her? Can she protect herself?
A joy to meet Duke who is intent on being the star of the story.
Both Cade and Harper drove me nuts in this one. I get that they were BFF's, very platonic, but it seemed like after Harper's "death" both of them saw things in a different light and saw the other as a potential romantic partner, yet were reluctant to cross that line at first. Then later fought crossing the line as it would be bad for their friendship, but gave it up towards the end. Most of the time it was Cade dragging his feet, which was odd to me. I'm glad that he listened to his brothers and friends and did something about where things had been left with Harper. Both of them deserved the happy ending they finally got!
It's not good when a woman has to die in order to live, but that's what Harper experiences after she gets her roommate away from a bd group of men. Trouble is, those men find out Harper has interfered in their porn movie business and they come after her. And pretending to be dead gives her the time to escape and ask for help from her best friend.
That guy, Kade, a Delta Force operative soon to join a different kind of operation, comes to her aid and is eager to bring down the bad guys. I only they don't grab her first. And that's where her dog, who flunked out of military training school, shows his real worth. Now it's up to Kade to keep Harper safe, but can he do it?
I really enjoyed this action packed story of an ex military couple. Harper and Kade are best friends and when Harper finds herself in serious trouble and has to fake her own death, her former delta force bestie is the person she naturally turns to. Luckily Kade comes with a badass family and former teammates plus a very helpful new employer. Harper has her own failed military dog who is just wonderful. Great book.
From best friends to a great love story. Harper finds herself in need of her best friend who thinks she's died. He, of course, goes to her right away. Grateful she is alive and they jump into the mess she's found herself in. Great second book of the series. I had just finished with brother Tristan book and am looking forward to Parker's story which won't be out for a couple of months.
This book was a good addition to the series and follows Harper, who has completed her Army service but has found herself in the middle of some trouble when she tries to help her roommate. When the issue becomes dangerous for both her and her father she calls her best friend, Kade Church. The book has a lot of action and adventure while Kade tries to keep Harper safe. Plus they may figure out they want more than friendship.
I'm a fan of story featuring K9 and this romantic suspense was very good as the other in this series. I rooted for the characters, loved the dog and think that suspense and romance are well balanced. It's an entertaining and compelling story, a page turner. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
This book grabbed me right away and held my interest till the very end. Once again, a romantic, yet not overly explicit story with suspense. The only disappointment was near the end where (trying not to spoil things for other readers) there was an altercation that could have been a bit more suspenseful than it was.
I just wish that the scenario felt more realistic. Where was the anxiety of being hunted down? Harper casually living her life while staying with the Churches just felt off to me. I also wish we saw more emotion with Kade dealing with finding that his friend was not dead. I get it that it’s not a slow burn, but this one was just not for me.
