Hannah Lynn is a multi award winning novelist. Publishing her first book, Amendments – a dark, dystopian speculative fiction novel, in 2015. Her second book, The Afterlife of Walter Augustus – a contemporary fiction novel with a supernatural twist – went on to win the 2018 Kindle Storyteller Award and the Independent Publishers Gold Medal for Best Adult Ebook.
Born in 1984, Hannah grew up in the Cotswolds, UK. After graduating from university, she spent 15 years as a teacher of physics, first in the UK and then Thailand, Malaysia, Austria and Jordan. It was during this time, inspired by the imaginations of the young people she taught, she began writing short stories for children, and later adult fiction.
With over 30 publications spanning a number of genres and translated into a dozen languages, Hannah has proven herself to be both an accomplished and prolific author.
Now settled back in the UK with her husband, daughter and clowder of cats, she spends her days writing romantic comedies and historical fiction. Her first historical fiction novel, Athena's Child, was also a 2020 Gold Medalist at the Independent Publishers Awards.
I almost gave up after a plot twist that hit me out of the blue. But I am so glad I didnt. I've laughed and cried with this family, I've cheered them all on and often thought 'Eric... you're an idiot'. I would say I love them all....but every family has a Lydia!😀 And I really wish I'd had a granny like Yvette. And at the end I was left wanting more, but not in a dissatisfied way. I just really wanted to know that everything really was alright.
“You may not see it now, but what I have left you is worth more than money, more than the house.”
Eric Sibley has it all; a great job, a big house and a beautiful wife and daughter. When his estranged father passes away, Eric is aghast to learn that instead of the house, paintings and his mother’s jewellery, his father has bequeathed him an overgrown allotment and his prized 1962 limited edition Aston Martin, affectionately known as Sally, on the condition that Eric maintains the allotment on a weekly basis for the next two years or risk the ownership of his car being rescinded.
Now Eric must somehow juggle a hectic career and family life in the city, with regular visits to the small riverside town of Burlam. Life for Eric quickly turns into a chaotic kaleidoscope of grumpy pensioners, muddy Wellington boots, gardening mishaps, drug raids and missed deadlines, which leave his marriage, job and sanity hanging in the balance. Will Eric come to understand his father’s message from beyond the grave before he risks losing all three?
This boxset consists of all six books including the two short novellas of the charming, heartwarming and life affirming Peas and Carrots series. Told with wit and charm, the story centres around a man’s journey of self reflection and realisation following the death of his father after he’s bequeathed an inheritance with an unusual stipulation. While attempting to fulfill the requirements of the will, he comes to appreciate the important things in life.
Eric’s journey and awakening as well as the relationships he forges throughout the book are a revelation. When we first meet Eric, it quickly becomes apparent after he scoffs at his father’s last letter to him before he died, that Eric needs to re-evaluate his priorities. As time goes on however, he changes and although we don’t see him acknowledge this, we as readers know that his father could not have left him a greater gift.
The secondary characters were quirky, charming and endearing. One of my favourites was the irascible, cantankerous Norman, an old friend of his father’s, who initially gives Eric a hard time when he first arrives at the allotment. The two eventually reach an understanding which makes the ending all the more poignant and bittersweet.
I’m so pleased that the author managed to tie up all the loose ends. As someone who became invested in these characters from the get go, I’m going to miss them terribly.
This series has been the perfect example of British eccentricity at its best with characters that will resonate with many and live on long after the final page. I for one will definitely be keeping an out for the authors future works.
Gardening and Dysfunctional People This is the complete series of six novels and 2 novellas. I read the first novel and novelette and part of the second novel. The stories are about gardening and dysfunctional people. While it is humorous, dealing with the emotion and angst of the characters made it a tiresome chore to read. And, since I read for fun and it wasn't, I quit. You may enjoy it, and it does have some redeeming features, but not to my taste.
This series of six books plus two short stories is an absorbing read with so many twists and unexpected turns that you never know what the next page will bring. I wish it hadn't ended and that is very unusual for me. The story is held together by Eric the hero of the story inheriting an allotment of all things. I recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a good family story. I really enjoyed them.
Loved the book so funny sad and unexpected thing occurring with each chapter I couldn’t put the book down most nights just sad I can’t get the peas and carrots series 2 on kindle and can only buy book format hopefully one day I’ll be able to get it on kindle as I would love to see the characters grow more
These six books are just wonderful..I've loved reading them and want more of this delightful authors books. The sweet shop ones were fabulous too...can't believe I've never heard of Hannah Lynn before...and all free? Thank you x
Beautifully funny, heartwarming and emotional from beginning to end.
Such an easy series to read, I felt fully invested in Eric, his family and their life events from the downright ridiculous to the most heartbreaking. I was sad to get to the end if the series.
I didn't like the ending. Why mix it up that way? The logical, tho' not to practical thing, was for Eric and Daisy to get married. Everything left to work out would've happened eventually.p
I really enjoyed this set of books and how the people are in each book and they all follow on!.. There are good times and bad. Also made me laugh. Keep s you wondering what will happen next.
Absolutely lovely book to read. Took me two days.Once I'd started... had the bonus read too. Laughed and cried alll the way through. A new author to me and I'm looking forward to more
I laughed and I cried. Beautifully written. Amazing rounded characters, and so descriptive .I fell in love with them all and really rooted for them. Poor Eric is his own worst enemy!
Read all the 6 books, really enjoyed getting to know all the characters in the books, there were lots of laugh out loud moments and also a few sad ones but I really enjoyed the books.
The stories of this family are happy, sad, funny and so engaging. They brought tears to my eyes more than once. So sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster ride 😊
