read the novel for this which is like 1,238 pages 😭
this storyline was truly all over the place and i feel like it should’ve ended with 3 volumes than 4. i did appreciate ian’s growth as well as madelyn’s, BUT the constant miscommunication was grating my nerves. they literally could’ve had the HEA in volume 2.
that said, this storyline was truly all over the damn place. we went from kingdoms, to the roaring 20s, to the depression, to mafias and millionaires, and stock markets. it was too much, and it was hard to follow where the storyline was going.
Hmm… how should I put this? It was interesting but flat. The story started really strong and grasped my attention but by the time the so called redemption began, I lost interest. I guess I wanted the two main characters to actually spend more time together but all they did was write letters and suffocate me with the misunderstanding trope. Every arc had some appeal and all lost it too. I think I had a lot of expectations and none were met. Yeah… could’ve been better.
I understand why the ml thinks the way he does about his appearance after the war but the fl literally became a nurse and also saw the troubles of what war could do to soldiers (blood and scarring) before showing his scared face to her. But I guess that is enough sustenance to make a whole plot for a light novel. By the end of the novel the ml still does not understand the limits that the fl will go just to be with him. He’s so insecure. Kudos to the fl for being a girlboss tho.
I gotta say I thought this would be quite predictable for a reincarnation plot line but they actually have quite the story here. It’s not afraid to dive deep into how war can truly destroy people. The English synopsis doesn’t give it justice.
It tried to be realistic to the times somewhat. I'm glad the manhwa didn't try to show that maybe the bourgeoisie were right to be against the labour party or anything, that would be fucking embarrassing. But what is fucking embarrassing is most people's response to the injustice that was often talked about in the manhwa. Like why are you revealing your evil thoughts by calling the fl stupid for not wrongly accusing a communist to save herself 💀? Khair, I didn't expect that the story would take the somewhat realistic war route that it did, it could've done a better job at showing the real problem with the bourgeoisie, but I can't fault it for that. The story is a mess though, the author can't makeup their damn mind about what's really supposed to happen. Design element wise, it was pretty bad. Like many manhwas 60% of the space is wasted, with 40% percent advancing the story by 2%, and then they just do a timeskip. The flinching motion was also kind of overused.
Read and finished nivel novel and currently (2025/01/18) waiting for the manhwa chapters to stack.
loved the real life references. The America arc felt a bit too long imo as well as the prison. Still, I found it cute. Very realistic for a Korean romance novel.
It’s been a while since I finished this but I remember thinking she was so stubborn. She was always too much to handle and I think the duke was way too in love with her to not slap her at times because she was very stubborn.
The romance was pretty, I remember liking the scene of the reunion kiss after the party in America, cute.

currently reading the ongoing manhwa which is perfection. however, reading the unofficial translated light novel just spoiled me because it was not good ;;. hopefully the manhwa adaptation will have better pacing than the translated light novel :)
I love how the story is so beautifully written but it's so hard to read it when there's no English translation, I hope it will be available worldwide soon.
It was an enjoyable (if occasionally mistranslated) novel about a woman after WWI who relives her adult life. Overall enjoyable -- rated slightly higher due to the genre.
Reviewing chapters [1-35] Did not expect this to be this heavy or well written. This graphic novel follows a war veteran and his wife as the try to live a normal life with his ptsd between them. Unfortunately because of bad understanding of psychology and trauma in the 20th century, his condition only worsens and causes a rift between them, until they're given a second chance.
HEAVY HEAVY mentions of ptsd, seizures, trauma, medical abuse, isolation and misogyny as it was common in 20th century.
