WARNING: This book contains scenes of explicit violence and gore.
Sister Eloise only ever wanted to do her best. She wanted to help those less fortunate than herself. She wanted to support those most desperately in need. She wanted to offer salvation to those who needed it.
But some people are beyond salvation.
After a brutal assault leaves Sister Eloise with her body broken and her father irreparably damaged, she doesn't know where to turn. But then a message from God provides the answer she had so desperately been seeking:
Harrison Phillips is an English author of horror, sci-fi and fantasy. His literary influences range from Clive Barker and Stephen King, to Jack Ketchum and Edward Lee. He was born and raised in Birmingham, England, where he still resides with his long-suffering wife, their two daughters, and a schnauzer named Minnie.
This was an epic tale of violence and revenge!! I just discovered this author a few weeks ago and I've already devoured six of his books, I just can't get enough. Phillips' stories are always full of unpredictable twists, blood and gore, and a well told story. In Shot Gun Nun we meet the badass Eloise who takes vengeance into her own hands (with the approval of Jesus of course) after a group of gang members leave her broken after a vicious attack! This was a no holds barred rage fest and I loved it!! 5/5 skulls 💀
"They are bad people. You can make them suffer in life. My Father and I will make them suffer in death."
Hobo with a Shotgun meets Ms. 45!
Imagine Hobo with a shotgun but instead of Rutger Hauer as a hobo, we give you a nun. A nun who sees a higher power and that higher power tells her to rid the earth of all the sinners. Well, looks like I’m on her hit list…
This book starts off with me being wide-eyed and ends the same way. There was no pussyfooting around. The author got right down to it and never looked back. It was pure intense insanity. Talk about brutal. This nun doesn't take shit from anyone but don't sin near her because she'll definitely blow your head off.
Shotgun Nun was a badass read. I really enjoyed this one. Tread very lightly with this if you can't handle extreme horror situations. For someone like me, this was the answer to my prayers...
Shotgun Nun is the story of a vengeful nun going on an absolutely brutal steak of revenge against those who wronged her. It’s a simple premise but Phillips goes balls to wall with the execution (literally).
This is 100% worthy of the trigger warning as it’s literally one shotgun death after the other, blood and guts and viscera abound on nearly every page. And if it’s not gore, it’s extremely explicit sex scenes that go beyond anything even remotely NSFW.
Overall, I enjoyed the way Phillips moved this book from point A to point B without a single moment of downtime. And, as a sucker for revenge stories, I was hooked from the get go.
I almost gave this one a 4 star rating as I enjoyed Sister Eloise’s non stop rampage, but the rape and extremely explicit sex l scenes (and not the loving erotic kind) got a bit too over the top for me. Yes, I know what Phillips was doing, and yes, it was a major vehicle for Eloise’s anger, however a bit less description could have still made this one hit just as hard.
I wish I'd read this sooner it was freaking brutal. Sister Eloise is out for retribution and she is awesome. Full of blood, violence, and gore. This is a must read.
My pitch: The Mindf*ck Series but without the cringe romance subplot.
This was such a blast! It does exactly what it says on the box and delivers a quick and entertaining story of deliciously satisfying revenge and gore. It reads more like an action book than an extreme horror, but that’s all good because it knows exactly what it is. Eloise is a sympathetic figure who ends up questioning her faith and realizing that she won’t let the evil actions foisted upon her define the trajectory of her life. She takes her fate into her own hands (and the person encouraging her… I’ll just let you wait and find out for yourself lol). I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an 80’s-style grindhouse action book (think Death Proof/Machete etc.).
this was my first book by this author and it was fine. the title pretty much sums it up: a badass nun seeking for revenge.
the characters weren’t that well developed, but i guess it was to be expected since it’s a short novella. i just thought the nun could’ve had way more character in her. the bad guys also were sometimes cringe, but i loved seeing them squirm lol.
the writing style was simple and really easy to follow. i was flying through the chapters. i think this book would be perfect for those who’d like to try reading some extreme horror. this doesn’t read like it really, but still is a bit gory.
when it comes to the plot, i loved seeing Eloise take her revenge and didn’t expect *that person* to encourage her to do all that lol. that part left me underwhelmed a bit. i thought this book was gonna be crazier than that, but it was still entertaining! if you want a quick read with a bit of gore, this one would be worth checking out. obviously check the trigger warnings first.
If you've read my reviews before, I am a sucker for a great revenge story, and this is exactly what I was hoping for!
Our main character is a nun who is a great and kind woman, until something happens that breaks her and has no choice but to seek justice against the individuals that hurt her, and I was all for it!
This was a super fun ride, extremely entertaining, with all of the violence and twists you would expect by this author, and I can't recommend this book enough!
I'd seen nothing but good things about this book, and I have a real fomo, so I had to grab myself a copy. It had also been on my wishlist for a long time, so I was excited to get started. I was not disappointed, the hype was real….
Father David, Sister Eloise and Edward are clearing up after a day of raising funds and feeding the homeless, when a gang of teenagers force their way into the church, and the horrific events that follow have Eloise seriously questioning her faith! The only way to make sure the culprits get the punishment they deserve though, to make them suffer for their horrendous actions, and to try to repair the damage done to her body, mind and soul, is to give them a one way ticket to see God himself and for them to endure his judgement upon them.
The excitement really ramps up when the realisation hits Eloise as to what needs to be done to try and make things right, and from there on in, this is a doozy of a revenge tale!! Eloise is a nun on a mission, a mission filled with blood, pain, torture and brutal satisfaction. Woe betide any sinner who gets in her way! This nun ain't holding nothing back! Unlike Father David…. who it seems, has been keeping some things to himself….
Eloise’s journey is described brilliantly, her thoughts, feelings and reasoning, her actions and the way she feels about them, and I was 100% behind her, cheering her on the whole time. A really well written story, the prose was great, extremely vivid images, and the anticipation is high and builds steadily, leaving you breathless and wanting more. It's disturbing, sad, and full of great twists and turns!
Sister Eloise is out for vengeance and I’m all for it!
This is my first read from Harrison Phillips and it certainly won’t be my last the first chapter was an introduction then from chapter 2 it’s non stop violence I will leave this review spoiler free but trust me you will be glad that Eloise seeks vengeance and what the author does very well is describe in vivid detail every gruesome scene.
I was delighted to see this was a trilogy so will be diving in to the sequels very soon.
3/5 This was a fun schlocky bit of Splatterpunk. Not really much to say. A nun swears revenge on a neighborhood gang after being attacked. It’s not terribly original and the characters are one dimensional but that doesn’t stop me from smiling any time one of the sinners comes to their grizzly end.
Very graphic both violently and sexually but I imagine you’d know that going in.
Yeah so there you go it’s fun base horror. Nothing outstanding but not a bad way to kill a few hours. If you can stomach the violence and stretch your imagination to what a human being would actually be able to tolerate and accomplish.
After Sister Eloise is brutally assaulted, physically abused and subsequently raped by a group of youths, and being convinced that she has been forsaken by The Almighty Father, she decides to take matters into her own hands and go hell for leather on a homicidal trail of destruction in search of punishment and justness.
Loved the storyline, bloody gruesome and grisly killings and the snippets of the Devil in Hell which were all wonderfully weaved together to make a fantastic piece of gore-filled, flesh ripping, fictional escapism.
All blunt, straight forward and to the point, in a 'what you see is what you get' format that grips, absorbs and entertains from the outset. Never a dull moment, that's for sure!
So why not saddle up, strap in and just enjoy the ride - you will not be disappointed.
'Here endeth the lesson'...for now!
Rating: 4.2 stars of extreme violence, that just so gloriously blast...then splash(red).
Sister Eloise gave her whole being to the church, her gentle loving personality helping the community, doing Gods work. A bunch of evil, sick, scumbags, rob a church and rape the nun. No mercy, no conscience, only evil deeds. Eloise gets a vision from Jesus who tells her to punish sinners, make them suffer in life and God can make them suffer in death. Taking her life back she buys ingredients to make bombs and buys a shot gun on the dark web. As she is waiting in line at a store, she is grabbed from behind by a robber. She reacts by stabbing the robber with a knife that she was going to purchase. She feels elated doing Gods work, killing sinners. Getting her shot gun ready she puts on her habit, takes her home made bombs and heads deep into the night. Her first use of the shot gun explodes into a chest, mulched viscera, gore tinting the air crimson. Another with only a stump of a neck, the skull scattered omnidirectionally. Another smashing into the knees, the legs like raw cabbage. She will continue to shot, shoving the gun into a mouth, teeth cracked, trigger pulled, the popping sound like a grape. Eloise a natural in cleaning up the scum cockroaches.
This week’s horror-son & co read was Shotgun Nun, another I hadn’t read before & wow this really went in from the very start! I absolutely loved it! 👌🏻
Sister Elouise is a dedicated nun, she feeds the homeless, attends every worship & raises money for those in need. It’s what she’s lived for, she’s certain that god can see her for all her good deeds & she’ll have a place in heaven
So when there’s a break in & shes SA’d in every worse way possible she questions her faith. How could god let her be sinned like that? How could he allow a priest to die at the hands of a petty thief gang? How can she continue to have faith after all of this.
The answers come in the form of Jesus, he tells her they will be punished by god but they need to get to god in order for it to happen…it doesn’t take much convincing, Sister Elouise is ready for revenge & justice 🙌🏼
This was brilliant!!! I actually found myself smiling at the ending 🤣 Eloise was bad ass, she got her justice & more in the end 👏🏼 I cannot wait to read the second one!! Hoping the wheel does its thing & chooses it for us soon!
This was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!! It’s also available on KU but check the triggerrrrs 🤎
This book fits in well with the rape/revenge film genre. As typical of those stories, the rape scene is so brutal and horrific (and in this case down right blasphemous) that the villains absolutely deserve what they get at the hands of the protagonist. In this case the woman is an innocent nun.
What makes this even better than those films is that Sister Eloise is so relatable and easy to emphasize with. Her psychological journey is very intriguing.
There's a lot of foul language, and graphic descriptions of blood and gore, but this book is quite the emotional thrill ride for fans of this niche of horror.
Sometimes you need to pickup a title that won’t BS you with its subject matter, so I said it’s time to finally pull the trigger on Shotgun Nun by Harrison Phillips. This was a wild ride & an engaging story from the quiet opening to the explosive inciting incident. I was sucked in and shocked following Sister Eloise’s grizzly transition from devout disciple to death dealer.
Quick Synopsis: A chain of violent crimes takes place against Sister Eloise & her church, leaving her questioning her faith. Can she really pray to a god who would allow such terrible people to go unpunished? Unsure of the answer, she decides if you want something done right…
If you like old gritty grindhouse feels in your books, this is for you! A blasphemous tale of revenge and retribution. What more do you need? Oh yeah, tons of gory gratuitous violence of course. In abundance! A quick nunsploitation flick in book form, hitting all the right notes. Can’t ask for much else. Highly recommend & excited for part 2!
The tale of nun, Eloise, who after being brutally attacked and raped decides to go on a murderous rampage to seek her revenge. Having armed herself with knives, guns and home made explosives (seriously), she discovers that not everyone close to her had her best interests at heart.
It's silly, fast paced and completely brutal. The smut was unnecessary but was used to depict her loss of faith - or at least that's what I took from it.
Shotgun Nun. I mean, really, how can you pass up a book with that title? I didn’t. I’m glad I didn’t. Because the book is badass. Harrison Phillips writing made me feel like I was watching a movie that came straight from 42nd street. It’s everything you want in a grind house story, and a little extra bad assery sprinkled on the top. There’s violence, ooey gooey, questions about religion, and Jesus. It was a blast. Did that on purpose. K thx.
Sister Elouise is sure of her life as a nun. Married to god until the unthinkable happens and she is r*ped by a group of teenagers who break into the church looking for money.
She can no longer understand God or his purpose and seeks out her own exacting revenge along with the support of Jesus!
Sister Elouise was a character I truly got behind. I was championing her all the way. This read was gory, action packed and full of body horror! My favourite Harrison Phillips so far!
This was a fun one! A devout nun, Eloise, loses her faith when she is brutally assaulted and raped by a gang of young men. Eloise gets revenge when she leaves the hospital. Jesus appears to her and says it’s okay to punish those who deserve it. So what does she do?! Buys a shotgun of course! This was a beyond satisfying story of revenge!!!
Shotgun Nun by Harrison Phillips has been on my TBR for a while now, so I thought I'd pull the trigger and give it a shot. Holy Moly! It was a blast! Explosive amounts of action. As I rifled through the pages, I was so enthralled. It was a miracle, but I actually read this all in one day. If you've been wondering about this one, you should bite the bullet and check it out. It was Heavenly.
A well written novel. Definitely not the average way you see a nun. It gave me very big Hobo with a Shotgun vibes. Great novel for anyone looking for a quick, gory ride.
