On the night Karley leaves town to meet with her friends, she disappears. Her husband swears they have the perfect marriage, but Sheriff Thomas Shepherd isn't convinced. And the husband doesn't have an alibi for the night Karley vanished.
Thomas joins forces with his girlfriend, private investigator Chelsey Byrd. But as they search for Karley, the case takes a dark turn. Someone is dumping bodies into a forest pond outside Wolf Lake. Is the murderer behind Karley's disappearance?
Thomas and Chelsey race to stop an unhinged killer. Nobody in Wolf Lake is safe until they solve the investigation. But they aren't alone in the night.
This is a good continuation of the Wolf Lake Series, but there was a lot of similarities to a previous book in the series. Sometimes I felt I had already read The Bone Forest, yet there were enough differences for me, I don't remember which book it was. Dan Padavona did a good job of keeping the read guessing who the culprit is. Dan Padavona gave me mystery, suspense, family and love. I love the growth of the Thomas and his friends. I love the loyalty and how they have each other's backs if there is trouble. If you are a new reader of the series it's a standalone but I highly recommend the whole series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy.
i love when thriller books begin with the murderer’s pov before we know who they are! that was exactly the case here, where we start the book with a body dump. a few days later, another woman goes missing on her way to a concert. she wakes up in a basement with bars on the windows, and shortly thereafter meets the killer. she can tell that she knows him, but isn’t sure who it is since he wears a stocking and disguises his voice. eventually she escapes, and runs for 3 hours before making it to a highway. that’s where she meets a good samaritan who takes her to the hospital and calls the police. the investigators make the connection and discovers that the killer is the woman’s husbands coworker. the book ends with a dramatic chase scene, of course!
my only complaint is that it was impossible for the reader to guess who the killer was before the ending, since they were only mentioned once or twice before with no clues to hint at his involvement. it was a very interesting concept (although not dan padavona’s most unique), and worth a read! i’m looking forward to reading more of dan padavona’s work)

I must have read a totally different book than everyone else. This book barely gets 2 stars There is little to no character development, except for the 3 characters the author wants you to hate. And they are so overdone it's comical. I suspected Digby the moment he was introduced because he was the one male character (other than police/"consultants") the author didn't try to make you hate. The author got so hung up on trying tp create suspense with the black truck of Urban Hammond that he magically changed Digby's truck from blue to black in the semi-climactic but somewhat predictable ending. Also, apparently every female in Wolf Lake gets kidnapped at some point in her life. And the so-called Bone Forest is just an afterthought at the end. It plays no real part in the story. The basic idea of this book could have made a great story, but the inconsistent development of characters and the implausibility of parts of the story line left me disappointed.

P.I. Chelsea Byrd of Wolf Lake Consulting, and her live-in lover, local Sheriff Thomas Shepherd, are working in tandem on a teen abduction and a separate missing persons case, with her associates Scout Mourning, LeVar Hopkins, Naomi and Raven, plus Deputy Lambert. Are the cases connected? Whose body's been dumped in the Lake?
A bailed suspect continues to be a threat to Chelsea, Raven and Scout, while the abducted woman escapes...for now.
The aptly-named eponymous Forest finally gives up its grisly secrets, and the intrepid detectives can relax, but for how long? The action in Dan Padavona's 10th Wolf Lake series, The Bone Forest, comes thick and shockingly fast, in another unputdownable triumph for Dan Padavona, that will grip you firmly by the imagination throughout. The Bone Forest, the tenth book in the Wolf Lake Thriller series, starts off with a murderer hiding his victim in a very secluded area. Then, another woman goes missing. Sheriff Thomas Shepherd, private investigator Chelsey Byrd, along with their teams will do all they can to find Karley, especially when they find the most recent body. Unfortunately, someone from their recent past is also looking for a bit of payback. From the first page to the last, this story is fantastic. I loved the characters, the storyline, the descriptions, everything. This suspenseful and gripping novel is filled with twists and turns. This series is getting stronger with every story, and, if you’ve not read them yet, I highly recommend that you do. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This has been an incredible series full of chilling, gripping, and intense thrillers that are intriguing, complex, and suspenseful. I loved the unconventional family that this group had formed, how they cared about one another, and always had each other's backs. It's definitely not a series that you'll want to miss! I can't wait for the new Thomas Shepherd Mystery series! Hopefully there will be many more stories to come! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Kaley Weir disappeared in the way to a concert but her husband is acting weird. Lots of red herrings at to who the kidnapper is. A teenager goes missing and the Wolf Lake Consulting helps track her down. LeAve once again proved to be invaluable to the gang. Old prejudices surface and it takes a long time to resolve them. The kidnapper is found to be a serial killer with an impressive body count. He flew under the rader with his nice guy guise. I can't wait for the next series.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I love this series, I enjoy it because the characters grow with each book. Each story is different and the books come fast enough that you don't forget who each person is. Also their like a family ,I wished it was little longer . But I can not wait for the next one. Hopefully a little more creepier. This series is definitely worth reading especially if you serial killers!
Being fairly new to reading for enjoyment, I was intrigued by the storyline of the first book in this series. I was unaware at the time of the fact that it was a 10 book series. I just finished the last book in the series. I was pleased that each book held surprises and some you knew the unsub from the beginning and others not until the end. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters throughout the series.
And a neglectful spouse is damaged by a deranged stalker-madman-serial killer but - hey, just another crime spree in Nightshade (got the name right THIS TIME) County!
A child predator uncovered by Wolf Lake Investigations seeks revenge; a missing wife with a self-absorbed spouse takes up everyone’s attention; a woman’s body surfaces in an isolated fishing spot.
Wolf Lake has a missing woman, then a body is found that is not that missing woman. Can they connect the two and find the killer? This author knows how to start with action and keep it going until the very end! The characters in this series continue to grow personally and as a family working together.
These books keep you guessing. The characters become your own family. I can't get enough of them. I will recommend this series to all my friends that are avid readers. The only thing j I wish I could change would be the time it takes for the latest one to come out. Kudos!!!!!!
Yes, I make notes because in my mind, sometimes this writer has victims make stupid decisions to carry on the story. That is why I gave it a four. Scout is just a young girl, and no law enforcement agency would ever include her in investigations, so there is that too, but this series is still one I like.
I absolutely love this series and these character. Each can be read as a stand alone novel, Dan mentions the characters back ground as he introduces them in the story. The main characters are wonderfully developed and extremely likable. I look forward to every new book in the series.
Just finishing reading another of your series with sheriff Shepard. It was another winner! The characters were real and so interesting! I surely hope you continue your writing! You are at the top of my list of favorite authors!! Keep up the great, I'm about to check if there are any more of your books I haven't read!
Read the whole series . Great storylines that pull you in and capture your full attention. The characters feel like family and it hard to wait for the next book to see what is happening. I will cheerful be a devoted fan and can't wait till the next book arrives in December!
This series was so good, I couldn't read them fast enough. Only problem is now I need to find the next book or series. At first I thought this might be to similar to a previous plot, but once I got over the hump I found it very engaging and very unsure of whom the villain would be. I enjoyed it very much. On to find another of Dan's books!!
As with the entire series, this is a very good book! It's an action packed, thrilling suspense. The characters have overcome a lot problems, health and otherwise. They are great! The storyline is a page turner. There are plenty of sick /evil people in this book. Please don't let this series end!!!
For the most part, I enjoy his books. However, he has a tendancy to blurt out summaries from previous books in the series when the info isn't necessary. It seems forced.
He also mentions things sometimes that I don't believe are accurate. One example is in at least 2 of his books he mentions a woman looking older than her years likely due to a history of wearing too much makeup. ???
This has been a series of not just people, or characters that try to solve a mystery or a crime. No! This has been a series that turned people, from different backgrounds, with different handicaps, different hardships into a family that apart they make no sense but together they make a family that can count on and depend on each other. United they make one heck of a team. Great lesson for all of us. Thank you!
Absolutely suspenseful!! Loved Book 10 of the Wolf Lake Series. In the beginning it could be a little bit slow but when I got to the middle towards the end, I was so nervous. I was at the edge of my seat. Honestly, it deserved the 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is an exciting thriller. I could not put this book down. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book and this series. This is an OMG book.Great readinh.
The wolf lake series never disappoint s . A sheriff with aspbergers is a joy to behold the mental work a person with this conditions has to work so hard to cope with day to day life it's fun to read about Thomas doing it everyday.
I love this Wolf Lake series. It is amazing and intriguing the stories the author creates but the characters are so real from teenagers to to a retired sheriff. I hate to have towait for another book to be written.
I absolutely loved the series and I'm so excited to learn that there will be a new book coming out in December. I can't wait to hear it ! Seriously read this series and enjoy it's amazing !
Sheriff Shepard and the gang are again involved in a new murder case. So many things come together as they follow the leads to solve the case. Lots of thrills and suspense to keep you wanting more.
Two missing women, several weeks apart has Thomas and the Wolf Lake Police Department busy but with few leads. When a woman's body was found in a lake the team has to put the search into high gear.
Oh, please do mot be the last one! I enjoyed this as much as all the others. Glad for a happy ending with the gang all back together! Thank you for a satisfying number of books and please keep writing!
