Can Glenna become more than her connections to others?
The Thin Place is an enchanting women’s fiction novel. If you like beautifully vivid characters, rich Irish folklore, and intriguing magical realism, then you’ll adore Lori Herter’s peek behind the veil.
This book was terrific. I had a hard time putting it down. I loved Maeve, I would like a book with her as the main character. I enjoy the mixture of folklore,Druids, and Christianity.Everything came together so well. I feel like we can have it all. I believe.
I picked this off my shelf to have a quick weekend read and forget the serious serifs of the day I found it within these pages. Ireland in all its beauty, a love story, fairies and having faith in ones convictions. For me, Lori entwined the colors of faith, hope and love in one story and could not put it down until finished. Truly a tonic for my soul at the moment. I highly recommend this book for you just may believe in fairies.
This book is simply enchanting. I loved the insertion of Celtic mythology and the mysterious question of what we see as reality versus the blending of Celtic lore. The story isn’t complex, but the characters are engaging. I read it in a few short, enjoyable hours.
If you enjoy Celtic legends in a modern setting you must read this book. I couldn't put it down once I started it. Beautifully written with a fresh view of magic, the Fae, and romance.
I loved the story, especially the parts about fairies and druids. I believe they truly exist in Ireland and it fascinates me. I would recommend this book to anyone with Irish background like me who wants to learn more about the motherland.
One book I really enjoyed! I think there really is another realm of believing in Angels and fairies! God is true and works in mysterious ways. A must read !
Glenna Molloy, a middle-aged travel writer, leaves California to find solace in the Irish homeland of her long-lost love, Finn. She’s short on cash, so she agrees to work for her room and board at Mrs. O’Grady’s bed-and-breakfast.
The book begins with Glenna in an ancient graveyard, searching for the standing stone in Finn’s book, Ireland’s Thin Places. Never in her wildest dreams does she believe that placing a coin on the ancient stone would bring her the blessings of the fairies. Maybe this luck will bring the two lovers back together?
When her over zealous writing partner shows up, Glenna realizes she has to stand up for herself. It’s time to make some changes in her life.
When Glenna unexpectedly meets Finn, she falls in love with him all over again. This time, she wonders if the magic of Ireland has cast a spell on her, or if the woman who claims to be half-fey has bewitched her!
This was another wonderful read. I couldn’t put this book down. There was some lovely Celtic fairy mythology woven into the story. Just when I thought I had the story figured out… it changed. Enjoyable characters and a sweet story!
A Beautifully Woven Tale of Love, Magic, and Rediscovery
The Thin Place is one of those rare stories that feels both timeless and deeply personal. Lori Herter captures the soul of Ireland with such grace its misty landscapes, ancient folklore, and quiet whispers of magic that you can almost feel the wind off the cliffs as you read.
Glenna’s journey is heartfelt and relatable a woman searching for meaning, love, and renewal. What makes this book shine is how Herter blends realism with enchantment so seamlessly that you start to believe the veil between worlds might truly be thin.
Every page is filled with emotion, atmosphere, and insight. It’s not just a story of romance it’s a story of rediscovery, courage, and the beauty of second chances.
Lori Herter has created something special here. This book doesn’t just transport you; it transforms you. I truly hope she knows how much her words continue to touch readers’ hearts.
I liked the idea behind the story, but felt the characters needed more development. The writing and dialogue seemed amateurish, stilted and juvenile. I didn't find myself rooting for any of the characters. In fact, I despised Finn for how and when he told Sean he was divorcing Sean's mom and marrying Glenna -- the timing of these declarations was ridiculous and so unbelievable that it turned me off on the whole story. I usually like books that deal with mystical beings and concepts, but I can't recommend this one.
I almost didn’t finish a few times, and was wanting it to just hurry up in the end. The story was shallow with a heavy sprinkling of mystic reference, but missing the magic. Unfortunately the characters are fairly 1 dimensional which made feeling invested in their lives difficult and often frustrating.
Excellent story. Engaging. Lovely. Perhaps not as well-written as I'd wish, but wonderful sentiments conveyed. A fun and compelling read. Definitely recommend to those who enjoy stories with Celtics lore
Meh…some characters were engaging but others bothersome. No real ending or suggestion of “the rest of the story”. I’m reading the story not writing it.
Having been to Ireland and some of the places mentioned, this book comes close to describing the magic of the island. Well written and spiritually insightful. You don't need be religious to enjoy this book. Slainte!
Definitely not my genre but I enjoyed this book. It’s a short read and I enjoyed the folklore and the Irish culture through the book. I didn’t love the “romance” part of it. I wanted more fairies and folklore and Maude 😂 3 stars! ⭐️
I love this book. I was hooked from page one. It's very clear that Ms. Herter did her research for this story. Her knowledge and insight of Ireland are apparent in every chapter. I feel as though I walked with Glenna. Saw and felt all that she did. Every description and emotion came to life with crystal clarity.
The characters in THE THIN PLACE are as rich as Ireland itself. Glenna Molloy is a very real, believable protagonist . She has flaws and weaknesses, yet her strength shines through. Her love for Finn and the places so dear to him propel her into a journey that many of us may not have the courage to take.
Finn Maguire had my heart in his first scene in this story. A man of convictions, he gave up his one true love to honor a commitment that many men would have walked away from. Our world could benefit from a few more Finns.
Glenna's co-author, Coyle Foxworth is the night to Finn's day. I personally found him obnoxious and clueless. But I will say one thing about Coyle--he is a man who knows what he wants. His character further deepens the telling of this story.
Maeve, is she really half-fey? Each reader has to make up their own mind to that. As for me? I believe! Maeve is an independent woman with an amazing insight into people. She has a wisdom that, dare I say is other worldly.
You also get to meet Eily O'Grady, the owner of the B&B that Glenna calls home while in Ireland. Eily is a good sounding board for Glenna as so many things happen. She's a sweet woman who won me over right away.
There are a couple other characters that round the story out, but they are for the reader to meet.
THE THIN PLACE is a story I'll remember for a long time to come and one I am sure to revisit. It was fresh and different from anything I've read in years. Afterward, I found it hard to keep it from my thoughts. The journey of reading this book was one I enjoyed very much. I do however have one request to make of the author, Ms. Herter. Please write a prequel!
