A VAMPIRE’S FATE is the fourth instalment in Marie-Claude Bourque’s contemporary, adult ORDER OF THE BLACK OAK-VAMPIRES erotic, paranormal romance series. This is new wolf pack alpha /registered practical nurse Rosalie Gauthier, and warrior vampire/ Mont-Royal Immortal guardian Renaud ‘Ren’ St. Amand’s story line. A VAMPIRE’S FATE can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as the author/characters reference previous events throughout.
Told from omniscient dual third person perspectives (Rosalie and Ren) A VAMPIRE’S FATE follows in the wake of the arranged marriage between new wolf pack alpha /registered practical nurse Rosalie Gauthier, and warrior vampire/guardian Renaud ‘Ren’ St. Amand. With her father and alpha, Alcide Gauthier’s health failing, Rosalie must step up and take the position that has been linked to her family for hundreds of years but there are some wolves who do not want a female in charge, and by marrying Rosalie to her vampire protector Renaud ‘Ren’ St. Amand, Alicide is hoping his daughter will be powerful enough to face what is coming. Another powerful wolf has challenged Rosalie for the top position but Rosalie is about to face a fight to the death in an effort to keep the power in her family’s line. The world building focuses on the accension to the proverbial throne. Rosalie is struggling with her marriage to Renaud, a marriage she believes is nothing more than a piece of paper until she ascends into power.
The relationship between Ren and Rosalie is one of an arranged marriage between two people who barely know one another but one has found himself falling for the woman in charge. Rosalie believes her time with Ren is only temporary until they both realize that fate has something more in the plan for our story line couple. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and supernatural secondary and supporting characters including many references to characters found in the previous story lines. We are introduced to Rosalie’s younger brother Liam, their sister Delphine, and their father Alcide, as well as supernatural healer Caro Mercier, Old Simon, Ren’s brothers rock star Cass St. Amand, Griff and Justin. Renaud Callan St-Amand is a three-hundred-year-old vampire. This immortal is a protector for the pack and is indebted to the pack. Centuries ago, the pack saved his life. He likes the area, the mountains and enjoys his life here.
Alcide Gauthier, Rosalie’s father had recently had a heart attack. He wants to name Rosalie as the new Alpha. Now Rosie is just back from her Nursing Training and she is to marry Ren. He is a powerful immortal and this would help solidify the position of a woman Alpha. They do not know each other. Each has their reasons for marrying. Ren has a debt to the family. Rosie wants to see her father retire and regain his health and she truly cares for her pack.
Not everyone is happy about this wedding. While Rosie does not know Ren, he is handsome. He will be her protector. With his support everyone should accept her as the new Alpha. Charles Bouchard, a local troublemaker of a pack member, does not agree with the new Alpha and challenges her to battle for the Alpha position. Rosie has ten days to prepare to defend her right as the new Alpha.
Can Rosie and Ren navigate this Alpha challenge. They barely know each other. Then Rosie former boyfriend, Dr. Dr. François Beaumont arrives in town looking for Rosie. Ren starts to feel things that he has not for a long time. Rosie becomes important to him to love and protect; can he keep her safe? Rosie and Ren are slowly working things out.
WOW, this is an action-packed book. I stayed up past my bed-time to find out what happens next. Compelling story that was hard to put down. Interesting characters. Great story, a good addition to the Black Oak Series.

The Pack Dynamics . . .
As nurse Rosalie Gauthier, a wolf shifter, comes back home to assume leadership of her pack due to a heart attack experienced by her father, Alcide Gauthier. He is now recovered, but it was time for Rosalie to take over. Female alphas were not the normal choice, so to make sure she receives the respect this position should earn her, he asks his best friend Renaud Callan St-Amand, who has pledged to always protect the Domaine-Lassalle pack, to marry Rosalie. Renaud did not expect his own feelings for the female shifter when they finally stand together for their arranged marriage. But he stoically showed no emotion. The marriage would keep her safe and the pack would accept her as leader.
As Ren was about to kiss her forehead, Charles Bouchard flung open the doors and barged in and started making insults toward the “new Alpha” and threatens her about how she would respond to a challenge. Several in the pews voiced their agreement. Then Charlie challenged her to fight for the alpha claim, and some of the younger wolves seemed eager to see that happen. This would mean a fight to the death!
Amid the violent world they live in, the author gives us a beautiful love story. Things don’t always go smoothly, but if love can hold them together, Ren and Rosalie can probably get through all of the drama. But could she win the fight against Charlie’s huge wolf? Would her father try to take her place? Or would she die trying to protect her family and pack? And how would her ex-boyfriend Dr. François Beaumont’s appearance impact all the tension already going on?

This book contains gentlemen vampires. They are immortal, handsome, extremely fast and strong, wealthy and drink blood but they wear crosses and can enter churches. Renaud Callan St-Amand is one such vampire. I’m not sure that they should really be called vampires as they don’t fit the myth at all. However, in this story this is what they are.
Renaud’s existence was saved centuries ago by the alpha of the Domaine-Lassalle werewolf pack and he has been indebted to their protection since that day. Most recently the present alpha, Alcide Gauthier, had a heart attack and decided that it was time to retire. Unfortunately, his son is too young to take over as Alpha and that burden falls to his daughter, Rosalie Gauthier, who will be the first female alpha ever. Alcide asks Renaud to marry Rosalie in order to give her the backing that she needs to take control. Needless to say there is a member of the pack, Charles Bouchard, who thinks that he would be a better alpha and he challenges Rosalie for the position. This challenge should be a fight to the death. Rosalie is against fighting but has to accept the challenge.
The story is really about a young woman who loves her family and pack against an unscrupulous man who solely wants power and will do anything to get it. Rosalie has to find her inner strength in order to save herself and her pack. Despite the fact that she was married to Renaud in order for him to protect her she refuses his aid.
I liked the book although I found the vampires to be somewhat unbelievable but I just lumped them in as semi divine beings.

Beautifully written! An enthraling book

Another great book in the Black Oak series. I've really been enjoying these. Fast reads, but at a somewhat higher intelligence level than the average 2023 "Paranormal romance".
This series focuses on a group of brothers (Vampires who mostly have morals & can subsist on Synthetic Blood) & the mates they find.
This one focuses on Immortal Ren & an arranged marriage with future soul mate Rosalee, a wolf shifter & potential Alpha of her pack.
I wish there were soul mates on our planet…………..
This had one trigger for me: when I was a child, I had bullying issues. Our villain, "Charlie" is a bully of the first degree. The first time he appears it was a bit much for me; but I really enjoyed his demise.
On the same subject, I don't know if it's intentional, or if I'm reading something into the story that isn't there; but for the 2nd book in a row on this series it feels like the author is using metaphors to address reall problems in today's USA. I like that, though it's subtle enough to go over the real life offender's minds in most cases.
I did notice there are 2 more to come in this series; I can't wait!
Good stuff. I'd like to see this adapted for TV.

Rosalie’s safety was threatened. Understanding the affairs of the pack and his new role in Rosalie's life made Ren feel limited. But even doubting and reliving moments that made him vulnerable and jeopardized his need to protect, his oath of protection to the Alpha of the Domaine-Lasalle pack was above all. Desperate the situation that Rosalie was facing. Certainly, she was between a rock and a hard place, and the vampire seemed to be her last solution. The power struggles took everything out of control and had me fearing for the protagonists and expecting the worst since the alternatives they had were risky and even deadly. The bullies were many and they were not right in the brain, at all. The descriptions and narrations were creating havoc in my nerves as I read about Ren's past and his bitter and desperate memories. I liked the personality of this immortal and the strong commitment that both Rosalie and he were showing. I really liked how the author developed this interesting, exciting and intense story that left me wanting to read more about this family of immortals.

I have been reading and loving this author's work since Book 1 of The Order of the Black Oak series came out. It was released January 2019, and I can share a lot of thoughts on my experience thus far.
For example:
I could focus on how cool of a human she is too. What with her busy career, family life.
I could focus on how sweet she has been to me since I found her work.
I could focus on how we are both Canadian and have Marie in our names.
I could focus on the technical aspects of this story I enjoyed...like how the character arcs are legendary, how the villian is truly despicable.
Mainly though, I enjoyed how I fell into the story, this world with ease and comfort. How I loved Rosalie and Ren immediately, how I rooted for them and enjoyed their journey to the end. I appreciated how I was able to escape life's problems and live in this world M-C has masterfully created.
I'm a lifer, I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

This story begins as Rosalie, a wolf shifter is being wed to Renaud, vampire and protector of the pack.
They don't know each other, it's an arranged marriage and a journey into the Order of the Black Oakland vampires. Rosalie, the next alpha, is stubborn, quick to anger but caring and secretly enamored of her new husband. Renaud feels for Rosalie things he's not felt in his 300 years, but if he can't keep her safe from a dangerous challenger then he'll never know if she could ever care for him, and he would fail his purpose.
Renaud was in my opinion perfect. Rosalie was volitable, not willing to accept help, but it worked. Fun slow burn story to read, looking forward to the next story of the vampire brothers.

Old fashioned mysogynist wolf Charlie immediately challenges her to fight to the death. On top of that there are rumours that a neighbouring pack is also looking to attack.
Rosalie is torn between doing the best for her pack and keeping her family and friends safe. There is also the marriage of convenience sparking in the background.
A fantastic fast paced, action packed shifter story with plenty of angst and heat.

This was such a treat that I wasn’t quite expecting.
A beautifully written, detailed story with characters brought to life that I got emotionally involved with. I fell for the MMC, Ren, a tall, dark, hot, brooding vampire who is honourable but deadly and underneath vulnerable and damaged. Rosalie the FMC is strong, independent and resolute I admired her and you just want them to be together. I hated the brutish bad guys. I totally got caught up in this story. I am fairly new to the paranormal genre and this exceeded my expectations.
It is the first book I have read from Marie-Claude but it won’t be the last. I am keen to explore the stories of the other St-Amand brothers. I do love a series of books with interconnected characters but can be read as standalones.

A beautifully written, detailed story with characters brought to life that I got emotionally involved with. I fell for the MMC, Ren, a tall, dark, hot, brooding vampire who is honourable but deadly and underneath vulnerable and damaged. These books just get better and better and though they can be read as stand alone do yourself a favour and read them all you won't be disappointed

Honestly when I started this book I wasn't sure what to expect. All I knew was that I was gonna get a sultry vampire which drew me in immediately.
I came to find out that the female main character is a strong and independent wolf shifter (one of my top favorite supernatural beings) who has a heart of gold and genuinely cares for people.
This is a standalone in a series of standalones focusing on individual couples. It's a fast and easy read that has a problem the main character has to conquer and of course it ends in a HEA. If you're in the mood for a vampire, definitely pick this one up.

An arranged marriage between a wolf shifter and a vampire, an attraction between bodyguard and protectee, female alpha, conflict between new ideas and tradition - don't bother choosing a trope because the author used all of these and gave it her personal twist on the slow burn romance that she is so good at writing. There is so much to unpack in this story so readers are going to to have make time to properly enjoy this. As for me, the usual "do not start just before going to bed" warning applies, because bed happened - sleep did not.

Intriguing take on vampires!

Although this is a standalone and can be read as such, there are many references to previous characters and their stories. I enjoyed the vampire/wolf politics and the fight vs diplomacy dilemma. The angst of an arranged marriage and awakening “feelings” added the spice to the story.

I loved reading this story of Ren and Rosie. The author really brings these two characters to life. You can feel the tension and sometimes pain they go through. Rosie is dedicated to being the alpha her pack needs. To allow them to continue to live a life of peace. Ren is dedicated to Rosie and her family. He has vowed to protect them and has for over a hundred years starting with their ancestors that had saved his life. The danger comes within the pack. It is amazing that even shifters have to face politics when a deadly danger is threatening war.

A little slow at first but BAM in comes Charlie and just like that it's on! One thing after another, it's no wonder Rose grinds herself down and along comes Ren to take care of her. The make a good pair Ren and Rose. Politics always suck no matter the race or people... politics always makes things difficult. Love sneaks in and changes the dynamics slowly but everything works out perfectly. Looking forward to the next St Amand brother episode!

I’m going to state the obviously unpopular opinion outright first: the female lead was annoyingly self righteous to a fault. But then again, if not for this fault, there would not be a story in the first place. Complex characters with emotional and traumatic backstories, good pace of storytelling throughout the book, and a good reminder that not all charismatic leaders have your best interest at heart. Worth the read, once I got over the fact that all drama could have been averted if the vampire obliterated the wedding gatecrashers early on.

When immortal Renaud (Ren) comes to the rescue of his friend wolf shifter Alcide the start of this unexpected tale grabbed me. We have a strong heroine in Rosie, Alcide’s daughter and Ren trying to overcome his mentality of trying to take care of Rosie’s problems. This was a fast page turner for me as I loved the characters dynamics and couldn’t wait to see what the outcome was going to be! I will definitely be reading the rest of Ms. Bourque’s books which has a little bit of every supernatural in them!

Rosalie Gauthier next in line to run the pack and steps up when her dad becomes Ill. She is challenged for the right to rule so Renaud a powerful and immortal vampire and a friend to her father, steps up to marry Rose to protect her and the pack. It’s a fantastic slow burn romance between two incredible characters that are strong, loyal and so right for each other. It’s exciting, it’s tense, there’s trouble, theres danger and don’t forget the politics, it’s a great read and I just loved their journey.

This was an entertaining read that's about Rosalie a wolf shifter of the Domaine-Lassalle Pack and Renaud a vampire who vows to protect the pack. Rosie returns home after her father had a heart attack and he wants to make Rosie the new alpha but first she needs backup. This is where Renaud comes in this action filled romantic story that I enjoyed reading. This is a wonderful vampire series to read, and this was a very enjoyable story with likable characters in this copy I'd received and volunteered to read and review.

Charlie trying to take over the pack from Rosalie, the second time he went after Rosalie he took her but Renaud used his connection to find her. When they were mated Rosalie got some powers from Renaud to help defeat Charlie. Good book!.

I was looking forward to this book so much that it jumped to the front of my TBR list, and I was not disappointed. I love the world building the characters and the intense emotions reading these books evokes in me. I found this quite a page turner and could not stop reading it, I finished in one long day. Rose and Ren are such lovely characters I’m glad they had a happy ending.

What a great story and fascinating characters! I expected Ren to be much more hard-lined and stoic, but to find out about his past and then his new relationship with Rosie, well it brought a lot of compassion into the drama. It was a slowburn romance, but once that fire got lit, it was hot! I think this is my favorite of the series thus far.

Rosalie a nurse and a wolf shifter goes back to her pack because her father the alpha of the pack had a heart attack her father arranges a marriage between her and Renaud the packs protector. Once that happens she is challenged for the position of alpha from a crazy wolf so will Rosalie fight to keep her position or will Renaud take matters into his own hands?.
