Amelia and Eddie are back in the laugh-out-loud, feel-good sequel to The Other Prince.
When Amelia Glendale moved to London, she never dreamed she would fall in love with a prince... until she met Edmund.
Amelia thought she had found her happily ever after. But after a tragic accident, everything changes. Suddenly Edmund is consumed by his work, and Amelia is thrust into the unforgiving world of palace politics and paparazzi.
Will Amelia and Edmund's relationship survive the pressure of life in the palace, or will the weight of the Crown tear them apart?
God Save the King is the sequel to The Other Prince and the series should be read in order. It is a laugh-out-loud, closed door romantic comedy about family, friendship and tiaras.
I write funny stories about people falling in love. Mainly princes and princesses because I'm a bit of a royal family tragic. Also because writing about royalty is the closest I'll ever come to wearing a tiara that isn't made of plastic.
I live in Australia with my husband and three small humans. In my seventeen seconds of free time each day I love reading romantic comedies, watching cheesy Netflix movies and baking cakes which I absolutely do not eat most of myself.
reading this series was like watching a really bad reality tv show, i finished just to see what happened at the end. I kinda felt like I was in middle school again reading a wattpad story
This book was a disaster from start to finish. First, Eddie was a complete jerk. He did nothing to support Amelia. She actually was somewhat adult about how things were going. She supported Eddie and tried to talk to him. To have him see other points of view and to show him he was being controlled by people who shouldn't have as much power as they did. He was a king and didn't act like it. Why Amelia even took him back at the end is beyond me. I hated this book because of the crap Eddie, Henry, and even Leo kept pulling. It was disgusting! How Amelia was treated by the men in the Palace is gross. And even more so not that's she's their queen. Just no. Amelia should have ended up with someone who respected her, fought for her, and made sure she was safe and loved. She may not have been the best character or the most mature. But she deserved better.
Okay, I'm not sure how to go about this review without giving spoilers, so I'm just going to talk about what I loved most about this book.
First off, I loved how Eddie and Amelia communicated and were always able to talk about their issues. This has to be my favourite dialogue from any romance novel:
“I’m done with this conversation,” I say, standing to walk towards the door. “I’ve told you where I’m coming from, and I’m not going to sit here and be yelled at. When you’re ready to discuss it like grown-ups, I’ll be at home.”
He sighs deeply, his face slowly relaxing as if he’s counting to ten. When he speaks again, there’s a softness and a vulnerability in his voice. “Amelia,” he says, reaching out to take my hand. “Please don’t walk away. We need to talk about this. I need to talk about it. I refuse to be like one of those couples in movies who create infinite problems for themselves by not communicating.”
Second off, Amelia and Penny's friendship. I loved how Penny was there for Amelia through thick and thin. Their banter cracked me up through the book.
*** Exhibit 1 “Full-time housekeepers will do that,” Penny says, shrugging. “But this isn’t about furniture, it’s about you and your relationship. Obviously I like Edmund a lot, but I love you more than ice cream and always want what’s best for you.” “Do you really love me more than ice cream? Even the addictive white chocolate and salted caramel stuff from that fancy artisanal gelato place in Soho?” “Absolutely.” She bites her lip. “I don’t recommend asking me when I’m hungry, though—you might not like the answer.”
Exhibit 2 “Where do I start?” “Probably at the beginning. You’re meant to be the smart one here. I shouldn’t have to tell you these things.”
Exhibit 3 What is it with you lawyers? Are you missing the gene that lets you admit when you’re wrong?” “Wrong?” I say with a shrug. “Never even heard of it.” ****
Thirdly, I loved how Eddie and Amelia grew through their challenges. Their character arcs were quite distinct. Though Eddie's cowardice grew a bit irritating, but I loved how he did the right thing in the end.
Lastly, gosh #Edelia or #Miled are so cute😍😍😍.
*** Amelia, I’m sorry to let you wake up alone yet again. Today it’s for a good reason, I promise. I may not be able to show the public how much I love you yet, but I can show you. I’ve done a deal with the devil and traded my soul for almost a full day off work (I may also have had to feign some severe intestinal issues). Michael will be by at eleven to collect you. In the meantime, there’s a frittata for you in the fridge, and the new romance novel you mentioned wanting to read the other day is waiting in the living room. See you soon, E. **** That's the man of my dreams right there. Food and books, the way to my heart.
"That means so much to me. I still haven’t a clue what I did to deserve you, but whatever it is, I’m bloody glad I did it.” “Remember that feeling next time I get a parking fine and need someone from the palace to make it disappear.”
Did this book even go through an editor? The typos and grammatical errors were embarrassing. The dialogue was forced and unrealistic. The character development was stilted. I enjoyed book one but was very disappointed with book two.
I liked the first book enough to read the second….I only finished because I wanted to see how it ended. This felt like a repeating jr high dating story to me. It felt forced, awkward and not the type of continuation I was hoping for!
The writing was lovely but I just found that the timeline was too fast! The storyline was great but I think it would have made more sense if it stretched a time period of like 5 years maybe
After the great ending to book 1, I had such high hopes for this one but I was greatly mistaken!!
Absolutely nothing happened in this book until the last couple of chapters! Most of the storyline just had me in a rage. I expected this book to follow them through their early married days and their first royal tour but instead it was just a lot of off again/on again rubbish.
I’m so disappointed as this had such potential to be great!
Just some (annoyed) thoughts - why did Eddie never fight for Amelia? - such a selfish MMC she’s a lawyer at his charity, expressed how she was worried about falling behind and making mistakes at work, yet he made he skip a morning of work to pick up souvenirs from a market!!???? - Emma and Lucy - for the love of god they did not need to be involved so much - There was no actual spark between the couple that made you as the reader want to champion them, the whole relationship was quote depressing - why propose out of the blue when you were split up and then spring a surprise wedding on her
I could go on but I’m getting too wound up and need to remember it’s just made up 🤣

I was so disappointed. I really enjoyed the first book but this one, not so much. She took two well-adjusted adults and turned them into horrible wishy-washy people. How a person who was raised to be King could be so pathetic is beyond me. How he allowed this advisor to talk to his girlfriend, the woman he planned to marry in such a manner is beyond me. Then the cousins have become increasingly zany to the point of unbelievable. I'm sorry, King or not he deserved to be kicked to the curb. This could have been such a good story if the author hadn't decided to turn it into slapstick. I saw in the author notes that she intends to write more starting with Princess Caroline. Although she seems the sanest of the group, I don't think I'll be reading any more in this series.
I absolutely loved these stories, but who doesn't adore jumping into a fairy tale involving a Prince turned King all too soon. It covers all the joys and turmoil of one young girl as she faces potential life inside the British Crown: learning names and titles, dealing with centuries of history and old-fashioned habits, and keeping your mouth quiet when you truly want to blow. Dolman includes all the worries and happies of every relationship, the crazies of certain British cousins who like to "abscond" with certain pieces of Crown jewelry, and the typical family squabbles that almost always occur. "God Save the King" earns 5 crowns!!!
So Amelia and Eddie finally sorted out that they love each other and had made plans to run away together for a while - and then the King dies making Eddie King. So much change, so many power plays.
This is the second book in the series. The story is flowing and sweet, closer to realistic than may other royal romance books, supportive and inclusive and explorative of mental health, setting boundaries. However it’s also a royal romance so the ending is always there. I could have done with another 50 pages of story, it wrapped up a bit too quickly. But otherwise an enjoyable fun romances
Book 62 of 2022 — God Save The King by Alice Dolman
I love a good royalty/common folk falling in love story. I mean, doesn’t everyone?
This is the second book in the series so far. They do not disappoint if you take them for what they are (not too seriously).
The conflicts are a bit predictable, but I don’t mind. There’s not really a villain in this story, which I also appreciate. It’s nice for everyone to be what they seem (or if they are not, they get found out pretty quick!)
A nice light read. Like your favorite tabloid but without all the sordidness.
I absolutely loved the first one, but this one was a hit and miss for me. It irritated me so bad that Edmund had zero backbone throughout the majority of this book. For me, it kind of made it hard to even read at that point. However, I would be willing to read another book in this series if one came out.
The second book in the series. (There’s only 2, a 3rd one will be released but it’s a stand alone book so this one has closure). The story of how the relationship between Amelia (common girl, lawyer) and the now King Edmund develops. I liked it. It is more of a story how they navigate being in the royal family than an actual romance. It was lighthearted and interesting and entertaining.
I was annoyed this entire book. I wanted to reach into the page and smack Amelia first and then Eddie. About halfway through I decided they deserved each other for being annoying AF. For some reason I kept reading and these two finally get their acts together in the last 10% of the book.
This book was just as good as the first - I really appreciate how the author weaves in conflict but in a less predictable manner than most books. I also love all of the side characters and friendships. For a debut series I have been so impressed!
Enjoyed the conversations between the characters. The conversations kept me entertained. Like that author did not use swear words. The writing was so superb, swear words were unnecessary. Look forward to reading more by this author.
"Will Amelia and Edmund's relationship survive the pressure of life in the palace, or will the weight of the Crown tear them apart?" Just as great as the first book. Love how it ends. Can't wait for Caroline's story!
I truly loved this series! I cannot wait to read more from this author! Do not miss this series, it is a must read, although I wanted to snake Amelia a few times!
A royal rom-com can pretty much do no wrong for me, but this one was just kind of dumb...the story felt like a mashup of a bunch of other similar stories, the chemistry seemed forced, and the overall flow of the book just didn't really do anything for me. Still enjoyed reading it but not the best.
I appreciated the stray from the usual trope and that Amelia’s character was so outspoken and passionate about her work. The ending felt a bit rushed but only because I wasn’t ready for it to be over.
I really liked BOTH books a LOT! Enjoyed the kooky cousins, roommate and hated Henry, along with everyone else! Guess I’m just a sap for Tom-coms like this!
