Lieutenant Toby Hurst was lucky to leave Iraq in one piece. Surgery managed to save his right hand, but it’ll never work properly again.
At twenty-six, he didn’t plan to be invalided out of the army, and being sent to the Aroha Sanctuary while he recovers is his personal idea of hell. He’ll have to mix with soldiers heading back to the action, while he spirals down into some kind of half-life. His girlfriend is looking for an excuse to leave him, and he’s at odds with everyone—even the gorgeous girl who looks after the gardens.
Isla MacKay has enough problems of her own to deal with. Her boyfriend trying to steal from her was bad enough, but being told she has to leave her rental property and find homes for the cats and kittens she’s been fostering is devastating. The last thing she needs is a grumpy soldier, snarling in her face like a lion with a thorn in his paw, but she senses there’s a nice guy underneath the protective shell he’s created.
Can the soothing backdrop of Aroha Sanctuary weave its gentle magic on this broken soldier?
Romance author Sofia Grey spends her days managing projects in the corporate world and her nights hanging out with wolf shifters and alpha males. She devours pretty much anything in the fiction line, but she prefers her romances to be hot, and her heroes to have hidden depths. When writing, she enjoys peeling back the layers to expose her characters’ flaws and always makes them work hard for their happy endings.
Both characters are in need of a helping hand with their emotional baggage. Isla is such a nice person just a little too gullible. Toby has loads of fight in him that I think needs redirecting. Though the circumstances are a bit off kilter, their meeting is perfect timing for the both of them and they're very supportive of one another. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to read and leave a review.
Great story set in Aroha retreat. Loved the storyline with Toby and Isla. The twists and turns of their relationship. A great one for the second of Sofia Grey's Aroha Retreat series. You even get to see Jack and Gabby back from her first one in the series called A Christmas Retreat (Falling for the Colonel's Daughter. Loved every minute of it so keep up the great writing of this series and look forward to reading the next one in the series and where it will lead us at Aroha Retreat. I was lucky enough to be apart of Sofia's ARC team and I am glad I did.
Wound up enjoying this story and characters. Started to get a little bored just wasn't moving along fast enough. Finally buckled down and finished reading it, was wanting to find out more about the garden trail day. Wished that part was more drawn out.
