Wēn MíngYì has a next door neighbour childhood gege (elder brother). His gege is wealthy, handsome, and powerful, and would spoil him. However, under the influence of the novel, Wen MingYi staged a cold war fraught with scorn and ridicule with his gege for three years.
At long last, the three years were over. Wen MingYi was about to make amends with his gege when, pushed by the novel’s main character – slam – he died.
After his death, Wen MingYi realised that he and his childhood gege were merely side characters in a novel. He had to die to complete the main characters’ true love relationship. Because of his death, his gege turned into a villain, becoming a stepping stone for the main characters’ true love, and who eventually got reduced to a penniless person who lost his family and life.
Wen MingYi could not take this lying down, but! He realised that he reincarnated! He had been reborn at the point when the white lotus main character was preparing to seduce his gege!
Wen MingYi hurriedly ran to his gege, wanting to tell him to cherish life, to get away from the white lotus.
The clock sounded at 9 o’clock, and he found that he had turned into a cat.
Wen MingYi was shocked. He got closer to his childhood gege and shouted: “Ge, ge……”
But the voice that came out was, “Meow, meow, meow meow meow meow……”
Sī JūnDuó looked at the didi (younger brother) who suddenly turned into a cat, stunned.
Wen MingYi aggrievedly “meow meow meow”-ed for half a day, and bit his pants leg, don’t leave!
Si JunDuo: ……
Si JunDuo reached down to pick the cat up.
Anyone who associates with Si JunDuo is aware that he cares greatly about Wen MingYi, whom he had grown up with. He never retaliated no matter how much Wen MingYi raised trouble with him.
His friends observed, “You like him, romantically.”
Si JunDuo indifferently said, “I do not.”
Half a year later, Wen MingYi who had been sharing the same bed with Si JunDuo as a cat everyday, stated that he should probably go back to his room. Si JunDuo grabbed his hand, “Just stay here. You’re mine when you turn into a cat or dog. When you transform back into a human, naturally you’re also mine.”
I read the Novel Updates description and this line convinced me to give it a read. I wasn’t impressed with the author’s After I Possessed the Tmall Genie of the School Adonis. So I felt skeptical at first. But the first few chapters truly made me glad I gave this novel a chance. It was so hilarious I couldn’t stop laughing. The author definitely raised a notch for the comedic aspects of her writing.
The English translation is still ongoing, so I read it in raw instead. Not sure if it would be as comedic when translated. If you can read Chinese, then I suggest reading it raw. The writing wasn’t too complicated and quite easy to understand.
Novels with the same universe settings always catch my attention, and it was the same for this novel as well. I’ve read After I Possessed the Tmall Genie of the School Adonis, and although I wasn’t impressed, I like reading the ML and the MC’s appearance in this novel. The plots for both of the novels were quite similar, so I couldn’t help comparing the two as I read on. Reborn as the Villain President’s Cat and Dog was definitely better because the characters can act as an animal, as compared to a Tmall genie that could only talk in a robotic voice. I still suggest giving After I Possessed the Tmall Genie of the School Adonis a read before you start with this novel. Connecting both stories like a puzzle was fun.
The novel has a lot of filler stories though. Instances that don’t seem to be of any relevance to the main plot, but it was interesting nevertheless. While I was reading, it got me worried thinking maybe the author would rush the ending like she did with After I Possessed the Tmall Genie of the School Adonis. Contrarily, the ending wasn’t rushed and was dragged instead. The ending already seems like a part of the extra, and the extras were so long as if it was supposed to be a part of the main story. It took me a long time to finish reading the extras!
Romantic aspects of the novel were sweet and fluffy. The author seems to be not adept at writing romantic developments. I noticed it when I read After I Possessed the Tmall Genie of the School Adonis because their confession was quite abrupt. And for this novel, the story started with the ML and MC having an ambiguous level of relationship, skipping all the romantic developments needed. There wasn’t a proper confession as well for this novel, but still, definitely so much better than After I Possessed the Tmall Genie of the School Adonis.
It was a good read, with sweetness all over as if covered with rock-sugar syrup like tanghulu. No angst whatsoever. I recommend giving it a read if you’re looking for a novel that will make you laugh. I can’t even count how many times I have suppressed my laughter in public while reading this. Truly hilarious!
