In her new collection of soul-stirring poetry, Staying in Love, Julia Fehrenbacher takes a long, meandering walk into true intimacy with life, herself and the world. With her hand outstretched, she invites us to walk along with her. Julia's poetry gently nudges and fiercely challenges us to choose softness in a world that is often so hard - to allow heartache, joy and everything in between to open our eyes to what truly matters. Each poem in this collection feels like a blessing, reminding us again and again that every real thing can be found in the soft arms of a moment. And that the moment, life, is always conveniently right here.
Editorial Reviews: "I cannot begin to describe the peace that comes over me when I read Julia's poetry. Her words are like oxygen. And they also unify. Gosh, how we need unifying forces right now. Julia helps us see the humanness in each other and shows us how to choose love in small, everyday actions. Every lifeline she has written has touched my heart." - Rachel Macy Stafford, author of Only Love Today
"Julia Fehrenbacher's poems are spontaneous prayers spoken from the heart. Each one teaches us how better to care for ourselves and the world, how to choose the listening over our lists, and how to heal all that needs mending at this difficult time in all of our lives." - James Crews, Poet and Editor of The Path to Poems of Connection and Joy
"Julia is a rare kind of poet. Her inspired words flow like a river and are so gripping that they get right into the heart and soul of the reader and make you want to live life to its fullest. Read her work and touch beauty at its best." - Eileen Curteis, Artist, Poet, Author
About the Author: Julia Fehrenbacher is a poet, a teacher, and a sometimes-painter, who is always looking for ways to spread a little good around in this world. She is most at home by the ocean, in the forests of the Pacific Northwest and with pen and paintbrush in hand. She lives in Corvallis, Oregon with her husband and two beautiful teenage girls.
This book of poems is a beautiful testament to the resilience of love in difficult times, the likes of such many of us had never seen until the 2020’s. Julia’s messages of hope and perseverance help the reader to see the sacred moments in the ordinary, the magic of the everyday if we just stop a moment to observe. She writes about the moments we often forget in our busyness to even recognize, and reminds us to notice the subtleties of this experience called life. No matter how chaotic the world outside is, we all have an inner wisdom that resonates within each of us if we listen. In her poems, I can imagine what she sees, I marvel with her, and I remember my gratitude for the wonders of it all. In one of my favorite poems, telling it true, she writes, “Is there anything more beautiful than this? Than you, than me? Than telling it true, than opening—than listening?”
"Staying in Love" is a treasure chest of Julia Fehrenbacher's wonderful wisdom and exquisite poetry. This beautiful collection is a constant companion at my silent Stillmind retreats, where I love sharing Julia's poems. Each one is an inspiring and deeply comforting reminder of how to live with an open, courageous heart and what becomes possible when we set aside the judgemental, self-doubting mind.
Julia has a unique and wondrous way of expressing the essence of our human predicament, inviting the reader to wake up to new possibilities through softening into the present moment with kindness and trust. Her words have the capacity to touch our hearts deeply, so that we no longer feel alone. She has a true gift and I keep my copy of "Staying in Love" close at all times!
