The Legion has landed....

The Republic world of Kima has fallen with shocking speed to the renewed forces of the Mid-Core Rebellion, and General Chhun must lead the rebuilt and enhanced 131st Legion - along with Marines, Dark Ops, Navy, and Kimbrin Resistance - onto the planet to violently check their assault.

But timing is of the essence, and Chhun can’t do it alone. Bear, working undercover, unearths the treachery of a resurgent Nether Ops still working their dark influence from the shadows. Masters has his hands full just staying alive while he evades deadly pursuers. And Keel finds himself swept up in intrigues that may make the planetary takeover of Kima all but insignificant.

The battle is fierce and hard, but victory is always within reach so long as the Legion - remade to its initial purpose - remains to fight.

Viss notiekošais #14-16 Galaxy’s Edge grāmatu ietvaros maz pamazām velk uz vienu lielu kulmināciju otrās sezonas KTF divu grāmatu noslēgumam. Pa detaļai no vienas galaktikas malas stūra, pa kripatai informācijas no cita, bet bieži vien pagaidām vēl savstarpēji tieši nesaistītai, lasītājam tiek dota iespēja uzzināt visu vairāk vai mazāk nepieciešamo.

Ok everyone who says that this is just one big long war? They're right. I wouldn't have minded if it were half the book. But basically the whole thing? Battle after battle after battle. The most entertaining thing was the way the soldiers talked to one another. But less entertaining, and even tragic, was the way they all kept dying. Especially at the end. Just about the time we'd start getting to know a character, they'd either die or get captured and almost dead.

These two authors can write any way they like. And they should make no apologies for it (like they did in the author's notes in the last book - "just kidding" was a cop out; they needed to just own the fact that they didn't like the criticism they were getting). This plot is very non-linear. It's a very roundabout way to tell a story. I think they would have been better served to tell a lot of the story arcs in novellas, but that's not how they've done it. I'm not sure if I keep coming back because I can't give up on the story or because I think the next book will change things - and these books are very different one to the next. So I think I'll read reviews of the next book before I pick it up. I should have done that with this one.

And RC Bray is the reason I picked it up the first time.

Well, this book was about the opposite of the previous book. While "Convergence" seemed to roam all over the place, this book takes place on the planet Kima. Oh, it starts out with Captain Aeson Keel getting a lead from none other than the pirate Lao Pak as to the whereabouts of his missing crew and the Indelible IV. He's also clued into a meeting with Donal Makaffie who is a Kill Team Ice member and a veteran of the Savage Wars. He has information that Keel needs about the whereabouts of Prisma Maydoon. All that plays out in the very beginning of this book, but none of it leads any where.

Where we do go is to planet Kima and we're going with former Legion Commander and now "just" General Choen Chhun, task force commander. He's going to that planet to take it back from the Mid-Core Rebels (MCR) who surprisingly took over several Republic bases and one in particular, Fort Blake. These MCR soldiers are acting kind of strange in that they seem to have some competent leadership and are not screwing up everything they attempt. Now that they have control of the planet, they have ground based guns that can eradicate any orbiting capital ships that don't belong to them. So, taking those guns out is the first objective for Kill Team Victory lead by First Sergeant Bombassa. They have to also secure any air defense assets that might be employed against Republic aircraft which there will be a lot of!

General Chhun has trained this new Legion back to their original standards. He's gotten rid of all the "Points" or officers appointed to their positions by the old House of Reason. He now knows that those under his command are competent and capable of dealing out the destruction he wants on Kima. He's not out to punish the native Kimbrins, but he's there to ensure the MCR understand that they are not wanted on the planet and will not survive this coming battle. He plans on massive death and destruction to the MCR and any Kimbrins allied with them. But as with any plan, things actually happen that were not planned for and reacting decisively and quickly needs to be the calling card of the Legion. General Chhun and his Kill Teams are going to KTF (Kill Them First) with prejudice!

While this war is starting and going on, Sergeant Master, Dark Ops legionnaire, has been running around on the backside of a mountain trying to stay alive. He was on top of the mountain when the MCR decided they didn't want him there and blew him off along with the other members of his unit. Those were all apparently killed because he's the only one alive that he knows of and he questions how long he'll be among the living. He's seen the Legion invasion and hopes they may have time to come and get him although without any way of communicating with other Legionnaires he's going to have to fend for himself for a while. That he's been doing occasionally finding small groups of MCR Kimbrin patrols which he eliminates. He's been doing this a lot and is very short on rations and getting weaker as time in the jungle marches on. With an entire war going on on the planet, will anyone take the time to go find a single Dark Operator some where on the planet? Oh, and there are Zhee in the area that Masters is running around in. These are nasty aliens that would like nothing better than to capture a Legion Dark Operator.

I really liked this book. It has a lot of tactics and explanations of what's going on by each team. Not everything goes according to plan, but that's when you have to adjust as do the Legionnaires on the ground. Having the ability to put up drones over the battlefield to actually see where your enemy is or might be has to be a huge advantage not something I experienced in my military time. The book doesn't actually finish the war on Kima and there is an off-shoot mission taken on by Sergeant Major MakRaven that should be very interesting.

There's more to this story in book 15, "Last Contact" that is now available on Amazon. It's on my reading list, of course!

*Meh*

If you can take the never ending, unimaginative writing template of actual 20th & 21st century battles, sprinkled with ancient ones, that are molded into a screenplay using “Star Wars” faerie dust, you might enjoy the latest “Remains (Galaxy’s Edge 14)” in the ‘Galaxy Edge Reboot of Reboots Franchise Factory.’

Not terribly bad, not very good - mediocre. Per the GE business model, this ‘episode’ takes place on a Vietnam-type jungle world (as opposed to the other routine stage - a sandbox one), with tiger-stripe camo, telepathic war dogs, and lots of fun blow ‘em & shoot ‘em up.

The writing nuts & bolts continue to devolve, but it’s to be expected as screenwriters rarely make good book writers.

What an interesting dilemma the authors have. How much detail should they have for a book. If the readers and fans love details to a gory battle, then this book is probably what they should have written. Introducing new characters, only to kill some of them off (avoiding spoilers) is simple enough. Getting the reader to care takes plenty of skill. I think the authors accomplished this.

This entire book could have been a chapter, or just a page or two. I am wondering if I missed some key detail because I was, sometimes, bored with the excesses of battle again. I suspect one old robot and a suddenly disciplined, usually foolish, enemy are the hidden details in this part of the saga. The reader won't know until how many books in the future?!

Bummer

Very disappointed this was just a book describing a drawn out battle. I've read all the galaxy edge books and the side stand alone books and this was the worst by far. I find the main story about keel/Wraith searching for Purissma much more appealing. The savages are up to something and instead we get a war story. We have already read many battle stories in the other books. To only mention the larger story in the first few pages then never revisit is soo disappointing! Please get the story back on track. Can't recommend this book. Should be a side story for those that want read about a battle.

We who follow the series know the players by now

And there are big players missing in this book…which means we have a lot more coming. This is mainly the accounting of retaking Kima from the commanders’ perspectives, the few squads of darkops and legion preparing the way, and brief glimpses of Masters running head first into the mouth of madness. My heart was in my throat at the ending cliffhanger!

Incredibly well written, totally linear (as opposed to other recent books of theirs), and a masterwork in strategy, tactics, and the indomitable spirit of warriors as masters of their craft. Highly recommended.

The military logistics are absolutely amazing. Air, orbit, space combat from all branches with full military dialogue and acronym dialect. Sadly the story is one long war. In short there is too much battle and not enough story. I guess one could argue that the battle is the story, however if you’ve read and re-read all of the Galaxy Edge books like I have you know there’s much more to the story then endless combat. Don’t get me wrong the combat is brilliant and amazing it is just a bit overkill compared to the rich story that galaxy edge books usually brings

Whenever a new entry into the GE series is presented, it immediately goes to the top of my reading priorities and I approach each narrative with a combination of excitement and dread, for the excitement and revelations, and for what might befall our beloved heroes.

Once again, the authors do not disappoint, and no matter the battlefield, whether groundside or space or the guts of a lighthugger, our heroes triumph or acquit themselves well, and the action doesn't let up.

Now comes the hardest part: waiting for the next installment.

A bit of a slog

I’ve been a huge fan of basically EVERYTHING GE has put out, but this book and the last book have been hard for me. The main story— war on Kima— has distanced us from most of the characters we know and love, leaving us with bewildering array of Legionaires doing their thing. It’s not poorly written, and if the shooty parts of Galaxy’s Edge were my favorites, I’d probably love it. But I miss the space opera.

Remains continues the intense action of the series but felt a bit more focused on setting up future events rather than exploring key characters and their arcs. Some of the main characters from previous books are absent here, which suggests they’ll have bigger roles in upcoming installments. While it was still an enjoyable read, I’m looking forward to seeing how these characters will return and play into the larger story in future books.

Rocking Battle for Kima

The Mid Core Rebels strike again when they try to take Kima, the Kimbrin homeworld from the Republic. But with General Chhun, Bear, Master Sergeant MakRaven & a bunch of newly trained Leejes, they fight the battles in opposition to the MCR. Some gruesome discoveries & double dealing later will keep you reading until you are done. Couldn't put it down.

Nonstop action but the plot moves so. very. little. Who are these people and why should I care?

This felt like a spin off or a “.5” more than a season entry, and I frequently wondered if I had missed a key book so I could care about the protagonists in this entry. The meat of this book should have been weaved into other entries rather than propped and stretched into its own.

This is the five-star rating system I use:

★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will).
★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this.
★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad.
★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time?
★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.

If for whatever reason, I go back and reread a good book, I will change the rating to five-star because I read it again.

Wandering

A lot of balls up in air and the descriptions of the Bayshore are disjointed. It doesn't make sense for this book to be a filler in the series. Lots of new gear to save the day and it feels like everything the authors needed an out it was thru new gear.

Excellent Read

The Authors knowledge of military mindset is on point. The story drags you in and refuses to let go. Character development is excellent and keeps the reader wanting more.. so much so that the wife is yelling at me to cut the damned grass!! KTF!

Good but drags

It's a good story but just drags at times. To many unfinished story lines. Can we finish one of the plots before 2 more are stared? Reads like a military history document instead of a story at times. Overall it's good series

This was not one of my favorite battle books, but I did love the inclusion of the war dog. However, the epilogue left me feeling pretty distressed. None of the characters are sacred, so I'm fervently hoping the next book begins with an epic rescue.

ACTION!

All the action in this one. It is intense and fantastic! The war is presented from many different viewpoints, and the strategies outlined are so interesting. The plot thickens and I am loving every minute!

remains.

More of the same. This is easily the weakest link in the series. I was expecting something more. Prisma or Indelible 6 maybe.

This one left me flat and I hate - hate - hate cliffhanger endings. Each book should be a complete story.

I really cannot write a review at this time. The very last little bit was unexpected, and came out of nowhere.

Keeping it rolling

Some good standard Legion action with some story sprites mixed in. Some of the new characters are particulary interesting, so looking to see where they go.

This entire book could have been a footnote… WAY too much detail about space battles that just drags on and on… I know you have to read it to progress with the story, but it’s not for me.

action intense!

Lots of action! And a annoying little way to end the book right in the midst of torture. But excited for the next book!
