January 14, 2022Great story. If you read the previous book in the series you will remember Mari, Winter, and Mari's mother Valerian. Well, Joseph is Mari's brother and Peaceable works for Winter.
Joseph is a cargo ship pilot and has spent a lot of time alone in space. When his mother decided to sell the family company and move to Corra to be with Mari and her step-son Zero, Joseph came along to work for his brother-in-law. To say that the first meeting between Joseph and Peaceable was less than auspicious is an understatement. They immediately rubbed each other the wrong way. She considered him arrogant and rude. He considered her uptight and rude. Valerian considered them to be perfect together. Huh.
Joseph came to enjoy their verbal sparring sessions. He did anything he could think of to set one off. Like messaging her to help him pick out a shirt for a date. Peaceable liked it when she left him at a loss for words. When her mother attacked her for not agreeing to mate with an old family friend, who admittedly only wanted her for her womb, Peaceable blurted out that she was already engaged. When pressed about her heretofore nonexistent fiancé, she said it was Joseph. Imagine his surprise to find out he was engaged to a woman he had never even been out with! Imagine her surprise when Joseph decided to go along with the charade! When the two are sent off by Winter to make a special cargo delivery on Talmar, things start to go wrong almost immediately. The ship has been sabotaged, but by whom? Do they dare send out a distress call or will that bring the saboteurs right to them? Nope. Not telling you.

Oh man. Mari's brother (who was attacked by Mari's honey is a hilarious case of overreaction on Winter's part in their book) and the very logical Peaceable are up and LOLOLOL. Joseph is a little bit of a chaos gremlin (the guy loooooves riling poor Peaceable up) and Peaceable tries very hard to stay calm and collected in the face of, well, everything.
As it turns out, Peaceable needs the riling up. She needs someone to shake things up for her and remind her that she doesn't have to be the one who always gives and gives and gives to keep the, well, peace. She can be selfish on occasion. She can push back if she needs to. Joseph likes that she lets her true emotions show with him and soon their fake fiancé thing is feeling a whole lot less fake than it did at the beginning.
Complicated family dynamics (on Peaceable's side, as it turns out. Who knew?!?!), a little time spent for our couple alone on a spaceship, a kind of squicky proposition from a friend of the family that was very NO THANKS, a super slimy guy who shouldn't be trusted ever, an uninhabited planet, a little danger, and two people who might seem very different but who fit together in the best way.

Not really that simple, the alien is Peaceable, a female and she blurts out that Joseph, a human,is her mate. Peaceable's mother keeps setting her up with potential mates that are for wealth and power, Peaceable wants love, not riches. Joseph is surprised over his fake fiance status as he and Peaceable don't get along although he really wants her. Their verbal sparring is fun. They are sent on a mission to deliver a piano that was won at auction when they are suddenly in trouble, their ship seems to have been fiddled with and they must land on what seems to be unoccupied planet, but surprise, it is occupied and danger abounds. The relationship between Joseph and Peaceable is fun but the interference of Peaceable 's mother and potential suitors messes things up. I enjoyed this different scenario with the alien being the female and the human, a male.

I loved this book. Peaceable and Joseph are some of my favorite characters, they’re so great. Their personalities, their interactions, I loved everything about them. I really enjoyed this sort of enemies to lovers story. Peaceable tries so hard to live up to her name with her critical mother’s expectations and all she really wants is to be loved and accepted. She’s hard working, thoughtful and kind. She’s smart, successful and witty. Joseph is a semi reformed rake and n’er do well who doesn’t know he’s looking for stability and someone to love. Big sigh…seriously could not love this story more!

Peaceable and Joseph like to torment one another, needling each other to get responses, but they aren't known to be friends. So why does Joseph's name flow out of Peaceable's lips, when she needs a fake fiance to get her Mother to back off? Now she will need to spend more time with the annoying human man. I enjoyed this alien and human odd couple, their humourous tale and their witty banter, both of them were easy to like. I loved Peaceable's pet a wuap called Nettle.

What an enjoyable story! I really liked the characters of Peaceable and Joseph. They were well developed and just so darn cute! Cummings made the heroine of this story the “alien” and it notched up my interest level. Could a human male defend Peaceable? Could they overcome the family’s disapproval of a human male as Peaceable’s mate? I love that Cummings always delivers a quality story that is inventive and never rote. Download and enjoy this one readers!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Finally get the story of Peaceable and Joseph secondary characters from previous book. And it was worth it as it was a hilarious book. the story of two opposite personalities that end up wit a crazy relationship that goes crazy and leads to all kinds of fun. Plus get to see some old favorites too. entertaining and fun to read to see if they survive their story. Just a good light story in this fun series.

I did the audio version of this. The narration was ok, but it was a single narrator for multiple POVs and I’m not a big fan of that. This book is a slow burn …. Sometimes works for me sometimes doesn’t. Not sure if I just wasn’t in the mood for this or it’s really not my thing. It seemed very hallmark to me, chemistry-ish but rarely do the sparks catch fire. It was a cute concept and cute story.

I really enjoyed this story, and was drawn in from the beginning with Joseph and Peacable's bickering. They are a cute pair, falling somewhere in between enemies and friends. As always Mrs. Cummings brings humor, steam, and adventure to her story. *I was gifted an Arc for an honest review.*

Joseph and Peaceable were at opposites pole you wouldn't know that would be perfect for each other. It seems like their bickering was their own way of courtship. One thing though, they brought out the best in each other.

I'm glad I got this first thing! Peaceable is such a good character, drowning in others expectations and yearning for some love for herself. Im.glaf we god to see more of Joseph and the pair make a good match. Excited for the next book!

This book has a hilarious storyline, of two opposite personalities that end up with a crazy relationship, the interaction and chemistry between them is wonderful. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book 📚, as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.

The characters in this book were hilarious. Their bickering back and forth made me laugh out loud. Once they were "stuck" on that remote planet together, that's where the romance begins. I'm glad they had their happy ending.

loved it
It took me way to long to get to this story. It was just the sweet and cosy adventure I’ve come to expect from Nancey Cummings. Joseph and Peaceable were adorable as they bickered and bantered and grew to love each other. Definitely recommend.

The best so far
This was my favorite so far. The two kept trying to let the universe put them together but it happened anyways. I just thought it was cute and I liked the characters.
