This is such a nice devotional. It would be a great parring with your Bible reading each day. The Scripture index in the back of the book is so helpful you can just go straight to the scripture in your Bible. I plan to give this as a gift this year. The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. A favorable review was not required, and all views expressed are our own.
There is so much comfort and inspiration to be found in this collection of devotions from author Wanda E. Brunstetter. Each selection pertains to hope, an emotion that seems lacking in today's world, and each one has scripture, inspirational thoughts, and a prayer. I especially like that these devotions are divided into different categories, such as forgiveness, happiness, and courage. There's also a scripture index in the back that allows readers to quickly find a devotion that's applicable to their daily Bible study.
This is a small, attractive book with a hardcover that makes it perfect for gift giving but you definitely want a copy of your own! The Prayer Jar Devotional: HOPE is a great supplement to your worship time, and it's a wonderful way to improve your prayer life.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.
You have no idea how comforting this prayer book is.
Already impressed with the calming cover, the content is no less when it comes to keeping me calm and comforted while reading a page each day when I need it the most.
Go for this collection if you need a comforting, inspirational read each day.
Thank you, Barbour Publishing, for the advance reading copy.
I am enjoying this devotional based on hope. Each day's reading is simple yet full of truth. With scripture, an inspiration, and a short prayer this is a great way to start my day.
The book itself is a nice size and hardcover that feels pleasant in the hand. Simple illustrations make each page lovely without detracting from the content. I highly recommend it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
I e just started this devotional. On day 5. I want to say I love this, I will update when I finish but I don’t see changing from a 5. Using it as a daily devotion and the daily encouragement and comfort to me is perfect. I think you too will love this book
You know a devotional is going to be good when you break down just reading the introduction! The words hit the deepest chord within my soul in such a powerful way that tears flowed down my face. I am struggling with a debilitating illness, while also dealing with deep personal loss, and I need hope in a bad way. “Hoping for strength isn’t enough. As Christians, we need to rely on God’s power to strengthen and help us with all the challenges we face.” I know this to be true, but something about reading it when my spiritual walk has been dry and desolate was the living water that my soul has been desperately crying out for.
I have been a fan of Wanda Brunstetter’s novels for awhile, but I have had a chance to read any from The Prayer Jars series. After beginning this devotional I know I need to read them! If they are anything like the devotional I know they will be entertaining while also holding powerful soul-stirring truths.
Each day of the devotional begins with a title and one Bible verse, each from different versions of the Bible, something I greatly appreciated as we all have our unique favorites (mine are the New Living Translation (NLT) and the English Standard Version (ESV) if you were curious). The devotional part is only a few paragraphs but don’t let that fool you. There is so much applicable truth each day that often left me pondering the words spoken hours later. If you decide to do a physical prayer jar for yourself, which I have, there is “Prayer Jar Inspiration” at the bottom of each page that gives you one sentence that you can write on a piece of paper, and slip into your own jar. Years ago I did something similar with a “prayer box” and if you’ve heard of those, this is the same concept. I can’t wait to see how the Lord uses this practice.
Even if you decide to forgo the jar, I still believe this is a delightful devotional that will touch your spirit. Wanda’s writing is unmatched, and the truth that is on these pages will bless you if you let the words soak into your spirit. Though my circumstances haven’t changed, and many of those prayers still left unanswered, I now am seeing them through a new lens. A lens called hope.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
First, a little background. Wanda Brunstetter’s fiction books the Prayer Jars Trilogy (The Hope Jar, The Forgiving Jar, The Healing Jar) is a set of Amish stories in which different characters discover prayer jars hidden around their farm. The glass jars contain slips of paper with prayers, scripture verses, and other sayings or words of thanks written on them. They are a source of encouragement and help to those who find them. I have read the series and enjoyed it.
This devotional sprung from the idea in those books. At the beginning of the book, you are encouraged to create a prayer jar of your own and read through it in the future to remember how God has encouraged you and answered your prayers.
Each day’s reading is on a single page and includes a Bible verse, a hopeful and encouraging devotional, a short prayer, and a prayer jar inspiration. The prayer jar inspiration is not what you would copy down and put in your prayer jar, if you are doing one. But you can use the reading to write down what God is showing you. There are ideas in the introduction, although you can use this as just a devotional book without creating a prayer jar.
Creating a prayer jar is not something I will do myself. But some may find it a helpful exercise to keep a jar, notebook, etc, to be able to look back to see what God has done. Sometimes it is easy to forget what God’s brought us through and how He did it, which can make writing things down a valuable habit.
Overall this is a nice devotional to pick up for a quick thought during the day or before going to bed at night. Each devotional is undated and unnumbered which make them easy to use any time. We can all use a bit of hope in this world, along with the reminder to take our cares to God in prayer.
*I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and Barbour Publishing in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Like many of you, I have read books from Wanda E. Brunstetter for over twenty years. We remember seeing her daughter-in-law, Jean Brunstetter, and granddaughter, Richelle Brunstetter co-authoring some of her books. So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered Wanda had published a recipe and a devotional book. This devotional book can be read by itself or in conjunction with the 'The Prayer Jars' series.' For more information about this series, check out her website: https://wandabrunstetter.com/amish-se...
Prayer Jar is a creative idea to remind you of prayer requests, prayers to God, and reminders of God's love. Once answered, you praise God and remove the prayer from the jar. If you don't have a mason jar, you can use a coffee tin or any box to store paper slips. The devotional is divided into several sections, such as hope for strength, hope for security, hope for love, etc. Each is beautifully written to remind you of hope found in God's word. You may read the devotional from cover to cover or by sections. As you read the devotional, you will notice that the end of each daily devotional contains a "note" and begins with a scripture verse you may write down for your prayer jar. On a personal note, I have been praying to God for some direction on a private matter, and I found myself hearing God speak through the hope for strength section. We know that God can use anything, a friend, nonbeliever, Scripture, or song, to answer our questions, so I need to praise God for that revelation. 'Prayer Jar Devotional' is made for women, making it relatable and reminding us that I'm not the only one going through this.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
The Prayer Jar Devotional: HOPE by Wanda E. Brunstetter; Donna K. Maltese
2-3 stars I was truly looking forward to this book. I love the idea of a prayer jar and if anyone else is too, this is not the book to read. This book has some major flaws regarding what it states it is and what it actually is. Author Wanda Brunstetter starts by saying read the verse and the short devotion and then add a prayer to your jar. You can go through the prayer jar every so often and remove the ones God has answered. Which I think is just a phenomenal idea and one I am definitely going to start! However, that is not how the book is laid out. The verses and the devotions are very good, taken from a variety of Bible versions. but the prayer jar suggestions are not tangible prayer requests. For example, one jar suggestion is "Because God is in control, I am to stay calm." It's a great prayer idea but there is no way to remove this or any of the other jar suggestions because there is no clear answer to this prayer. No person is ever going to stay calm 100% of the time. Now, if the title and premise of this book was just a devotional without the prayer jar part it would easily be 5 stars without a doubt. But, since the whole premise of the book is not applicable to the actual book, I was very disappointed and I think others will be as well.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.
This is an easy to understand, hope-filled devotional that will take the reader through 365 days. I am thankful to the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced reader's e-copy of this book. This is my own unsolicited opinion of it.
Wanda Brunstetter with Donna K. Maltese gives us a year of devotions that is written to women of God. I found promises of love with scriptural backing written to " His Eves, His Girls, Woman Warrior, Daughter and more in the messages. Sections of the book are devoted to "Soul, Joy, Confession, Forgiveness," giving and receiving love and so much more.
Reading during a time of mourning I immediately was caught in the hope the writing gives. (Do not mistake this for an Amish read which Mrs. Brunstetter is beloved for. This is a book by a woman of God who shares hope with her sisters.) Wanda understands this life and offers this year of devotionals to you, to me and any woman, giving us reminders, directives and the love God gifts us with. She asks what goals God has planted in my heart, your heart? There is always the reminder that we have open communication with God through our prayers.
I highly recommend this book of devotions. It is a book that I will read again. It would be an excellent gift to give for the new year ahead whether it is for a birthday, Christmas or marking an anniversary.

I give The Prayer Jar Devotional: Hope five out of five stars!
Best selling author, Wanda E. Brunstetter, has written a lovely new devotional. The first thing of notice is the beautiful cover. It is simple and inviting. The Prayer Devotional Hope is a a welcome new devotional for my collection.
This small, hardcover book is divided into various sections: Hope for Love, Hope for Forgiveness, and Hope for Guidance, to name a few. Daily readings begin with a scripture, followed by a devotional story, then a short prayer, and closes with a Prayer Jar Inspiration. At the back of the book is an index of scripture used in the book.
There are 365 devotions making this a yearly devotional. The lessons are short but encouraging. After reading a few days, participants will want to start their own prayer jar. I certainly did.
I highly recommend this inspiration book. It is uplifting, edifying, and offers food for thought. This would make a wonderful gift for friends in a study group or family. I will be keeping my copy to read again. It gets a 5 star rating from me. A copy was provided by Barbour Publishing, but these are my honest words.
This is a fantastic devotional that pairs nicely with Wanda Brunstetter’s Prayer Jar trilogy. Be assured however, it’s wonderful on its own as well:). Begin or end each day with a scripture verse and a short devotional to draw closer to God and help you pray according to the day’s devo. A perfect way to draw your heart and mind toward God while living in this crazy busy life♥️. It makes it so easy to carve out 10 minutes of quiet and calm, to enjoy time in God’s presence over a cup of tea. Perfect devotional as we transition into the cozy autumn season! Wanda Brunstetter’s charming way of writing pulls you right in and leaves you wanting to sit and ponder God’s love, grace, mercy, and blessings. This would make a wonderful gift as well for the special people in your life! I absolutely LOVE this little gem and look forward to a few quiet moments each evening as I read the day’s devo and spend some time talking to God in prayer♥️
Wanda Brunstetter explains what a prayer jar is and the benefit of having one, such as, one thing we can do to remind ourselves to pray often is make a prayer jar and place it where we will see it every day. Each time we look at the jar, we will think of who and what we want to pray for. A prayer jar can deepen our relationship with God and strengthen our faith. This is a good idea. I, personally, have sticky notes everywhere.
In this book, the author discusses various situations that we might pray for along with a provided scripture and a prayer. This is such a well thought-through book with a almost every imaginable valley we or someone we love may pass through. Recommend for anyone needed that little push in getting motivated to prat more or just for anyone wanting to collect their prayers in one place.
The Prayer Jar Devotional is a lovely volume. Starting right with the cover, which is simple and calming, the book is a lovely size that feels cozy in your hands. The book is filled with daily scripture and devotional readings that help the reader draw closer to God and help encourage prayer and meditation on God's word. Designed for daily reading over a year, the theme of hope is inspiring. Each daily read is short but satisfying to the soul. At the start of the volume, Wanda shares what a prayer jar is and how to make and use one so that readers can opt to make their own. I love how this devotional helps me to organize my thoughts and take time to pray and devote time to my spiritual wellbeing. Many thanks to Barbour Publishing and the author for providing me with a copy of this book in order to share my own personal thoughts and opinions about the book.
I found this to be a simple devotional book that didn't really shake me up or get my attention. There can still be insight and inspiration gleaned from each page but it was not my favorite style. I would have like and appreciated more depth to the thoughts.

I absolutely love the idea of a prayer jar. Such a great way to be held accountable to yourself and God and it also helps make it a daily habit for you. What a fun and encouraging way to add to your prayer life. I can’t wait to use these Bible verses and inspirations from the book, make my own prayer jar and be able to look back through these prayers and see how God has worked in my own life.
All words and opinions are my own. I was given a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review.
I love devotionals that really break down the scriptures and allow the reader to study and discover true meanings of bible verses. There are 365 days of devotions so the reader has a whole year in study of God's word. As one reads through, the studies are very encouraging and make one want to have their own prayer jar of hope. The inclusion of an index in back makes this devotional stand out. I received a copy though Netgalley. A review was not required. I really look forward to continuing my journey through this book.
The Prayer Jar Devotional: Hope is written by Wanda Brunstetter. I had heard of a prayer jar before this - and was intrigued and started my own. I have not gone through the slips of papers I dropped in, but God knows the needs. In this devotion, each day starts out with a bible verse. Then there is a nice blend of personal experiences and Biblical truth. I am still working my way through this - but this is a great way to start your day. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
This devotional book is thoughtful and inspirational. It’s not a Bible study, but a collection of devotional thoughts that take around 5 minutes to read—-an uplifting way to start your morning or read during a break in your day. The hardback cover is nice and the print is easy on the eyes. This would make a nice gift book. I am enjoying these devotions, and especially like the “Prayer Jar Inspirations” at the end of each devotional.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This devotional is a great book. It covers a wide range of encouraging scriptures that will draw you closer to Gods word. As you go through this book you will feel yourself becoming closer to God. Your prayer life will be changed. There are simple directions to start your own prayer jar at the beginning of the book. If you need encouraging words and need to draw closer to God this book will help you. It also would make a great gift.
Hope.."the desire with expectations of obtaining what is desired, or belief that it is obtainable."What better way to start a new month/season (November/Fall) than diving into a new devotional by one of my favorite authors Wanda E. Brunstetter, if you haven't checked out any of her books, I highly recommend them. I also wanted to share the first page of the devotional.
I loved this book. Enjoyed all the devotional readings centered around the theme of hope. In todays world this is a good devotional book to have and share. Love the idea of starting my own prayer jar with my prayers in them. Will be fun to thing of ideas to decorate my prayer jar to make it special. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher to let me enjoy this book and write my honest opinion on it.
Based on Wanda E. Brustetter’s Prayer Jar series, this lovely inspirational devotional book centers on Hope.
It encourages you to create your own prayer jar which is a be a very impactful force on your prayer life. This is a must have book for your devotional life.

One devotional that is needed now days. Filled with bible verse and inspiration giving you hope in a troubled world. I loved the Bible verses but for me I prefer the KJV of verses. The new translation switch the way it was originally written. At the end of each devotional is an inspirational verse that you can use to put into a prayer jar.
This is a great devotional. I enjoyed reading this book and will continue to read it over and over. I have read many devotionals and this one is my favorite. Just as the prayer jar series by Wanda Brunstetter this is a must read book. You will totally enjoy it.
Finding much hope and inspiration while reading devotions once a day from this book was so heartwarming and brought peace and comfort to my heart. Very inspiring in God’s truth being shared. Would make the perfect gift for loved ones.
I just love a good devotional book and this one I love. A page every day and if I don't have the prayer jar inspiration already in my prayer jar I add it right away. This helps me get through some of the really tough days. Wanda hit a home run with this!
Wanda Brunstetter's devotional is the best devotional I have read. Her writing ability continues to amaze me. Her devotional is a wonderful keepsake and one you can pick up at any time and get much out of. Would recommend to anyone.
