My name is Erin Stone. I’m 43, with a daughter away at college and a successful career as a communications officer with the 911 dispatch center for the Toronto Police Service. My life had just returned to a new normal after my divorce and everything was going smoothly. Then, boom! Turns out the universe had other plans for me.

I dreamed of a plane crash - only it wasn’t just a dream. The crash happened in real life. Eighty-three dead. A vision, plain and simple. Not exactly. My family certainly wouldn’t understand. And me…psychic? I’d dabbled in new-age spirituality in the past, but never plunged into the deep end. Now I’m in over my head.

Why was I given this vision, and does it hold clues as to what caused the crash? My best friend, Trish, is convinced it does, and a handsome stranger with the National Transportation Safety Board is willing to partner with me to solve the mystery. But if I’m going to embrace the vision as telling of newfound psychic abilities, I will need to keep my paranormal gift a secret from my daughter, brother, and aunt. Little good that might do them, though.

Someone out there has their own secrets and is willing to go to great lengths to protect them. Now the very gift I was given has put the lives of my loved ones at risk. Will my psychic abilities be strong enough to save them?

This work of paranormal women’s fiction features a strong-willed heroine in her 40s with enough baggage to check some, along with a heavy dose of magic and a splash of romance.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. What would be your reaction if you woke one morning and discovered that you had psychic abilities? In Midlife Psychic, Erin Stone  a devout catholic got the surprise of her life when she learned the dream she had about a plane crash was in fact a vision. Read on to see my thoughts about Carolyn Arnold's newest novel.

I had high hopes for this book and Arnold did not disappoint. Despite it being outside her usual genre, her signature was stamped all over Midlife Psychic. She grabbed my attention from the start and had me invested in the story and the characters.

Midlife Psychic tells the story of Erin Stone, a 43-year-old divorcee and mother to a nineteen-year-old college student. She is a dispatcher with the Toronto Police Department. Erin  grew up in a Catholic household and still holds fast to the teachings. Therefore, she does not believe in the supernatural. Then the unthinkable happened. She woke up from a dream about a plane crash, which in of itself meant nothing. However, when images from a news report about a plane  crash mirrored what she saw in her dream, she sensed right away her life would never be the same.

Erin’s reaction to her newfound  gift reflected her skepticism about the supernatural world. It took her a while to accept that she did indeed have a psychic vision.

The majority of the story focused on Erin coming to terms with her gift and her acceptance of same. In accepting her gift, she investigates the crash with the help of a National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) Agent. In doing so, she brought danger to her door. The last forty percent of the story was where the suspense took over. It had me on edge.

The secondary characters made things interesting. There is Trish, Erin’s best friend. The one person she can confide in about her gift without being looked upon as crazy. Trish helped her to realize she got this gift for a reason. Then there is David, the NTSB agent. They shared a mutual attraction. It would seem romance is in the air.

The tying up of events in relation to the mystery surrounding the plane crash was told instead of shown. I would prefer show rather than tell.

The ending suggests the possibility of a series, keeping fingers crossed. Overall, Midlife Psychic was an intriguing read. I had a good time seeing how the events played out. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

I have read a lot of Carolyn Arnold’s work and I am excited to delve into the psychic world with her first paranormal story, Midlife Psychic. I love that the female character is older and it is a refreshing change from the young adult novels I love so much. Along with hot flashes, come psychic visions.

Carolyn Arnold writes wonderful mysteries and police procedurals, so I am excited to begin this journey with her…AND…of course, we have to start with something that I am already afraid of…a plane crash.

Erin Stone is a Catholic, so anything to do with the paranormal smacks of Satan worship. She cannot talk to any family about this, but thank goodness her best friend, Trisha, has a very open mind and believes in all kinds of new age things, like the power of intuition, the laws of attraction and lucid dreaming. I love that Erin and Trisha have such different upbringings and beliefs, yet are best friends.

She is a 911 operator for the Toronto Police Services. Her parents had died in a plane crash 28 years earlier and as the anniversary of the date approaches, her brother talks her into going to the memorial, where she runs into the NTSB agent who investigated their parents crash. For some reason, she finds it easy to talk to him, and she does need help to investigate her dream and the plane crash. A little attraction makes it easier. Karma at work?

We are just cruising along, doing some talking, some investigating, maybe falling in love…until…about 60% and Carolyn Arnold takes it up a notch. Danger rears it ugly head.

There is a religious tone to the story and if you don’t believe in visions, clairvoyance, lucid dreaming and psychics, here is the chance to walk a mile in Erin’s shoes and learn how she comes to accept that a fact is a fact, a truth a truth.

Be sure and catch Carolyn Arnold’s inspiration for writing Midlife Psychic and her acknowledgments and find out how much of her personal life she shares.

I bounced a bit on the rating, but the when Carolyn Arnold added danger to the mix, it gave me that extra bit I was looking for. The ending seemed a bit off to me, but I can’t quite put my finger on why? Did I want more details? Did I want a different ending? I don’t know. If you get a chance to read Midlife Psychic, I would love to know you thoughts. Maybe it is just me wanting…MORE.

I voluntarily reviewed and ARC of Midlife Psychic by Carolyn Arnold.

I really enjoyed this. The first of Carolyn Arnold's books I've read. It came up on Amazon and was in KU. It was much better than I expected.

A fully rounded protagonist, Erin is a character who I think will stay in my memory.

Interestingly, I don't normally enjoy thrillers/romantic suspense neither of which this is exactly it's hard to categorise. But the author's style was easy, the pace was great, and the characters were well drawn. Too well-drawn in the case of the super-annoying daughter who only seemed to be there to provide narrative tension. But I loved her best friend. Namaste.

Also the free sample of the author's police procedural series at the end of this book reminded me so much of Eve Dallas that I've actually just grabbed that one too.

I am a huge fan of Carolyn Arnold and her writing. She writes amazing mysteries that keep you on the edge of your seat and Midlife Pyschic was no different.

I have read a few different series by Carolyn Arnold. Several are “police procedural” type mysteries and one was an adventure mystery with a treasure hunter. Midlife Psychic is definitely in the realm of “something else” but I loved it!

I am an open minded. I believe in the spiritual world. I have had some… ‘feelings’ in my past. The context of this story was one that I am all for. I loved it and would be considered a believer. The fact that I am a strong advocate for the context, combined with the wonderful writing of Carolyn Arnold and still held the mystery that she writes so well – I couldn’t help but love it!

Midlife Psychic had me on the edge of my seat with mystery, giggling with a hint of romance, and completely invested and engulfed in the storyline.

I certainly hope we see more of Erin Stone and her abilities as I imagine there is plenty of other trouble she can get herself into… or more people’s lives to save.

a millionaire oil tycoon called Howard Hayes? on a plane with a Bette mavis?? Oh c'mon, have a touch of originality! speaking of, if you've seen the show Departures, you've already dealt with this book, because this book is derivative like woah
How old are these characters meant to be, mid-40s and mid-50s or teenagers that have no concept how to act around other people?
Is the author familiar with Catholicism? the concept of lucid dreaming isn't considered demonic for the love of crackers!
After a couple chapters I began to seriously wonder if the book was sponsored by the producers of Grace and Frankie given its metioned by name (and by characters) 10+ time. its so so so so so annoying by the end. I love that show but it came off ridiculous when its literally the only show mentioned.
Characters that act like you murdered someone for daring to keep something to yourself.
Rude, entitled, aggressively nosey characters that tell other people's business are horrific and this book is full of them. Converse with a man? EVERYONE at the dinner table will be marring you off, asking invasive questions, ignoring that you've asked them to stop, making out like you're sleeping around....

Well Done

I liked this enough I would read another with these characters. I thought the plot well thought out. Her family’s reaction to her having visions seemed real and the investigation was believable. The cover is misleading and I was expecting a humorous paranormal with magic and maybe even witches. Instead I got a mystery with a slight paranormal twist with meaningful characters and a little romance.

Full disclosure - I was provided an advanced reader’s copy of this book by the author or their representative but have voluntarily provided a review. All opinions are my own.

When dreams become reality

Erin Stone has a difficult job as a 911 operator for her city, but she enjoys the work, and it keeps her busy. As a single parent of a child in college, Erin’s only companions are her cat Harvey, and her best friend/Yoga instructor Trish. When she has a vivid dream about a plane crash she chalks it up to jitters surrounding the upcoming anniversary of the crash that took her parents years ago. That is, until a breaking news story chronicles an accident in Texas that eerily resemble her unsettling dream. When she starts seeing “things” in the middle of the day Erin is spooked and wonders if there isn’t something medically wrong with her. Having a strict religious upbringing, things like visions, and premonitions are more terrifying to her than a brain tumor. When she meets up with a handsome NTSB agent at an event for her parents and other crash victims, Erin is drawn to the possibility that he can help her discover the catalyst behind her visions and possibly bring the closure to the newest survivors that she never had. But as her and David set out to uncover the truth of the crash, other forces are at play that do not want the truth to be told. When Erin’s family is threatened, will she push forward for the truth or leave the revelations buried?
Midlife Psychic is the newest book by international best-selling author Carolyn Arnold and is the first in what I hope becomes a new series. The story introduces us to Erin Stone, divorcee, and newly minted psychic as she struggles to come to acceptance with her unexpected gifts at an older age. From the first sentences, Arnold captivates the reader with vivid imagery of a plane in the throes of going down. The various emotions, fear, acceptance, and despair is evident and make for the foundation of what is a fast-paced, heartrending, yet also heart-warming story. The struggles Erin’s character faces are very realistic for her predicament. Does she tell her ultra-religious family about her visions and risk ostracism or worse, disowning, or does she keep them to herself and hope that it’s just a “phase”? Arnold does an exceptional job of weaving a story that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. While this is a new subject for Arnold who is most well known for her crime fiction novels, but also has titles in the Cozy Mystery and Action/Adventure genres, Midlife Psychic proves yet again that whatever genre Arnold attempt to tackle, that she will most definitely excel at it. After reading Midlife Psychic, I am hoping that Arnold expands the story of 911 operator and psychic Erin Stone into a regular series. While I realize that there is a potential for a series such as this to become formulaic, I am confident that Arnold will tackle each new case that Erin takes on with a fresh and innovative eye.

Midlife Psychic by Carolyn Arnold is a standalone Paranormal Women’s Fiction novel. We meet our heroine Erin Stone at the start when she is in the middle of a nightmare. Her nightmare is a plane that is spiraling out of control, with everyone on the plane sensing death, and Erin feels like she is on the plane looking at others around her. When she wakes up, the dream shook her, as it felt so realistic; she shakes it off, as she needs to hurry to work. Erin is a 43 years old divorcee, with a daughter now away at college, and she works for the Toronto 911 Police Dispatch for a number of years.

While at work, she sees the TV talking about a plane crash, with 83 people dead, and Erin realizes this was the dream she had, which went down at the same time of her dream. She doesn’t know what to think, as at her age, why would she have a vision, but when then later, she sees another vision about a young girl kidnapped; which she sends the police department an anonymous clue where to find the child safe. Erin is beside herself, and scared. The only person she can talk to is her friend Trish, who is very open to spiritual things, but she knows her family would frown on this, so she needs to keep this a secret. She meets David, who works for the National Transportation Safety Board, and in a short time, he believes that Erin does see visions, and they begin to work together to find out the truth about the plane crash, and why she is seeing faces of some who died.

What follows is an exciting, intriguing story with Erin and David finding clues that the plane crash was sabotage, and Erin will need to learn how to use her psychic paranormal gift. Things get dangerous and nerve wracking when threats are made to her family, which escalates the pressure, as they are getting too close. I really liked Erin and David together, as this is a slow burn romance. But depending if this is going to become a series, perhaps that is in the future, if Arnold continues this.

Midlife Psychic was very well written by Carolyn Arnold, especially since this was a different kind of read that we have come to expect from her. I did like the paranormal story line, especially the tense, wild climax. I hope we get to see more of Erin Stone.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy ARC from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. I have read quite a few of Carolyn Arnold’s books, but this one is a bit different. I liked it! It seems that she is able to engage the reader in any genre she chooses.

Erin Stone is a typical divorced mom in her forties who is living a contented life. There’s little drama in her personal life and that’s the way she likes it. Then she has a dream about an airplane crash that turns out to be a vision. She does NOT believe in psychics, though. Talk about life-changing.

I felt like I really got to know Erin. She’s a strong woman with beliefs that have been challenged, but she decides to use her newfound talent (power?) to do good. There are loved ones of the crash victims she may be able to help find closure. When things hit close to home, though, she has trouble dealing with it, but she does cope. She’s a hero in my book.

And then there’s the new man in Erin’s life. Is he really as good as he seems? Can any man be as perfect as he seems? Maybe?

Midlife Psychic is women’s fiction with a bit of romance and a little suspense. I can’t wait to read the next Erin Stone book…hopefully, there is one coming.

Erin Stone is an average forty-three-year-old divorced woman working as a communications officer for the Toronto Police Service – until she isn’t. A vivid dream of a plane crash has turned her life and her beliefs upside down. Her Catholic upbringing has certainly not prepared her for these new visions. How can you tell your daughter, your brother, your aunt that you are now psychic? Her best friend Trish will have to help her accept this newfound gift. While she works through this life-altering change, Erin will also have to figure out, with the help of David Bomber of the NTSB, why she keeps seeing the crash, why that vision has her believing that it was not an accident. Meanwhile, new visions are filtering into her daily life, and some will show that danger is very close indeed. Carolyn Arnold has done it again with a wonderful suspense-filled thriller with a little paranormal twist. The characters are great and the storyline…well, I do hope this is the start of a new series because I want more. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Her dream about a plane crash seemed so real…it was as if she was in the plane. The next morning when Erin Stone heard about the plane crash, she remembered the terror felt by the passengers when they knew the plane was going to crash. Would anyone believe her or would they think she was crazy? When she had a second vision, she anonymously reported what she knew, possibly saving a young girls’ life. The details of her vision are of interest to NTSB Agent David Bomber and she finds herself involved in the investigation. Someone knows that she is helping and threatens her daughter. When her daughter is kidnapped, will her visions be strong enough to save her? I really enjoyed this fun-paranormal-suspense story about a woman in her forties trying to adapt to an onset of visions. I hope there is a second story for Erin, as I enjoyed her witty dialog, her need to make sense out of this new normal and her possible second chance at love. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)

good

Erin isn’t expecting to suddenly start having visions in her forties, but it’s what is happening to her. After leading her to look into the circumstances behind the plane crash she dreamed about, and inadvertently putting herself into danger, it’s up to Erin and her friends to figure it all out.

This PWF book is a mystery with an older heroine. A hint of romance, and plenty of intrigue, make for a unique and interesting read.
The main character is a big believer in the Law of Attraction, and the book itself is a little down on organized religion (in particular Catholicism), but is apparently based on the author’s own experiences. While I found it a little extreme, others may well identify with it.
Erin’s difficulty coming to terms with her new abilities was well portrayed, and took a different perspective than most PWF books, making for a conflicted heroine just coming into her own.
Overall, it’s an enjoyable book for mystery and PWF lovers.

Death is like a dream less sleep.

Jesus called it that in John 11: 11-15. John 5:28-29. 1 Corinthians 15:51-54. 1Thessalonians 4:16-17. Jesus
Will raise them when He comes again. He at that time gives them their reward of immortality and a permanent home with Him, Revelation 22:12. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6,10 tells us that the dead know nothing. Their love, hatred, envy is perished. There's no work, device (reasoning),nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave where you go. God does give visions and dreams, but Satan can too. You have to see if they're in harmony with the word of God in order to know which one it is from. Th Bible tells us that only God is immortal. There is no immortality of the soul. At creation dust of the ground plus the breath of God made man a living soul. God didn't put a soul into man. Your whole being is a soul. At death your spirit which is your breath goes back to God.

Solid and Satisfying Story

As I was reading I had thoughts that the story was moving too slowly and yet, at the same time, I appreciated that it solidly represented a timeline that felt real. I could relate to Erin not being able to accept that she had had a real “vision” due to her Catholic upbringing. When I was young, priests preaching from their pulpit railed against Ouija boards, yoga or anything resembling the mystical or paranormal calling it the work of the devil. It seems the mindset (minus the killing) of the Spanish Inquisitors continues into modern society. So it took time to come to grips with this frightening, new ability and I appreciate the author doing this justice. As the story unfolds, the pace does pick up and the ending is very satisfying. Well edited, solid story arc, well defined characters so this deserves 5 stars

This was a fun book revolving around Erin who has gained psychic powers but is having a hard time adapting to these visions and is afraid to tell her family because she knows their reaction will not be good. However, it has her intrigued as to who she is seeing in her vision and why. This sets her off on a path to find the answers with a new potential love interest with David, the NTSB agent also investigating these plane crashes.

While all seems to go seemingly well the book takes a dangerous turn for Erin and her family. Thankfully, her brother is a police officer and while he doesn't react well to her psychic revelation, he does step in and help figure out this situation.

I like that all of my questions were answered by the end of the book but I think there could be another book in this series since there are some unanswered questions regarding David's history.

I have been reading Carolyn Arnold's books for several years and I absolutely love that she released this title. Definitely a shift from her norm but it is fantastic. As if a woman doesn't have enough dealing with the changes that come along with hitting middle-age, now Erin faces navigating a "gift" that she didn't choose nor wish for. I enjoyed the "detective" side that Carolyn is known for coming through, but in a different direction with this book. I couldn't put it down because I had to know how her visions were going to change her life (and those around her). I would love for this to become a series!

I received a complimentary ARC for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.

I'm not very much into paranormal stories but given that Midlife Psychic is written by Carolyn Arnold, an author that I admire, I decided to give it a try, and I loved it! The characters are relatable, even the psychic passages are believable (I do believe in visions and all things related), and they made a great story. I also enjoyed the humor used to describe the midlife supposed crisis Erin is going through. Although a mystery/crime thriller this is not a difficult reading and time flew by with the book in my hands. Hopefully, this will become a series and we'll read more stories involving Erin Stone.
I downloaded a free copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

I loved this book. Erin is absolutely a brilliant character, and handles herself well even when her world is turned upside down by psychic visions. Erin's initial reluctance to accept her new gift, and her journey towards accepting it while navigating her own complicated family life and personal doubts, really enhanced the overall plot. Your attention is grabbed right from the outset, and you won't want to stop turning the pages as Trish, Erin, and David try to navigate Erin's new abilities and discover what really happened with the plane crash she witnessed in her nightmare.

"“Talk to me.” If she feared freaking me out and enlightening me to some tactic outside of my comfort zone…well, she was too late for that. That ship had already sailed and was in the middle of the ocean. I was living well outside my freaking comfort zone, and so far, it wasn’t that bad out here." - Erin

Erin Stone was living her life, raiding her child, enjoying her job... Until a vision sent her into a sideways spiral. Up was down, over was under and suddenly old wounds are re-opened.

Wowza, what a ride! Thoroughly enjoyed this tale! Highly recommend!

It was better than 2.0. I really liked the beginning. It got very unbelievable (well, after assuming having visions is believable) from an investigation and crime standpoint. It’s obviously meant to be the first in a series since it left lots of issues between the main characters open. I would probably read the next one. Mainly to see what kinds of visions occur and to find out about the male protagonist’s ex-wife (or whatever she is) and how the romance proceeds between the main characters.

Really a 3.5 due to a few misspelled words and a really strange sentence.

I love Carolyn Arnolds books. I really enjoyed this book. Erin is over 40, unattached and not looking. Her daughter Jenna has left home and enjoying her college experience. Then out of nowhere she has a “vision” of plane going down and crashing. Erin knows she’s going crazy with a tumor in her head. Really?

Loved it!

I really enjoyed the premise of the story. The angst of suddenly finding yourself to be having visions and the fear that you are going crazy on top of finding your visions to be true would truly be overwhelming. Having friends who think it's a gift but family that consider visions to be satanic or evil would be even more confusing. Erin works her way through all of it and then some in this story!

It's the first time I've ever read a book in this genre. But my enjoyment of Carolyn Arnold's other work convinced me to try it! It's a well-told tale about (no spoiler) a woman who's a skeptic but starts having sudden visions. I liked it because she didn't immediately accept that this was who she was now. It took some convincing! I think I'd be the same. I really enjoyed the story and its twists and turns.

Nice twists and bends through this tale of self-acceptance

This was an interesting story that was light and fun until the protagonist 's loved ones are threatened. The midlife question reads its head and it is unclear which path will save her family, relationships, and sanity. This could have been a really dark book, however the topics were handled with humility and respect. Like in real life, there is sometimes growth and love to be found within kid-life and other tragedies

Enjoyable Read

What a fun, exciting story! New gifts just when life is going smoothly.
Erin is just perfect and her life is going great with family, friends, and a rewarding job. Out of nowhere she starts experiencing flashes, or " visions" that may or may not be helpful. She adjusts quite well after a few thoughts of being crazy, and once she is reconciled to the visions, more come. A mystery, murder, new friends, ...all good!

Another Winner!

This is the 5th book by Carolyn Arnold that I have read. I'm friends with Brandon Fisher, Madison Knight and now Erin Stone.
Ms. Arnold is a wonderful author. She pulls you into the story and involves you with the characters in a way that makes it difficult to put the book down. All three series of her books that I read so far (Midlife Psychic is stand alone) were different but equally intriguing. Keep up the good work, Ms. Arnold! ❤👍

Midlife Psychic

Not my usual genre but I thought I'd give it a go after reading a fb ad. Was a little slow to start but got better, though I did think the end was a little rushed. All in all though was a decent enough story. Is the first book I've read by the author but I will definitely try some of her other titles.

Mystery, murder and mayhem

A women has a psychic dream, was it real? Fast paced story that has you racing for the outcome. Interesting part of the storyline was the religious aspects. Can you have visions or be new age and still connect to, or believe in God. Why are we still worried that different is evil.

Not sure

I enjoyed the story, which was well written as you would expect from this author. I really enjoy the paranormal romance books , but there was something missing for me which is unusual as I enjoy this author's work. The jury is still out for me.
