So … this was a 3.5 ⭐️ read. The author glossed over the takedown of the big bad and spent too much time on sexy times between the mc’s. I think it was around chapter 26 I went back a couple of times because I thought somehow I had skipped a chapter with the takedown of the villain. Anyhow I enjoyed the story but the author went from showing us the story to telling us the story so that detracted from the book imo.
I went into this book with high hopes that it would be as good as the first one (the original version) I was warned that it went from being a RH to just a M/F story, maybe because I loved the dynamics of the original book and when it suddenly changed up it was very disappointing. I read different genres and tropes but when you start a book and half way through the story line completely changes and characters change and then the story no longer held any excitement for me. I started my journey with the first series about the Salvatore boys and fell in love with this authors writing style and I devoured every single one of the books in that series, I loved the first Cadets but I feel that even the writing style changed in this book when the love interest changed. It changed the entire feel of the storyline, the Devil’s Knights are suppose to be vicious, and psycho, possessive, and loyal to their chosen but when this went from Cadets to Cadet story all of those characteristics seemed to no longer be there. The main male character became boring and everything seemed to drag out! There was no passion to this story after the change. I am looking forward to the next Series in this secret society world as I am hoping that the next set of Knights will be as blood thirsty over protecting their girl as the first set were because this Knight’s story faded and cut out when he went solo! Hard to get interested in a second book when the major characters you become attached to from the first book are only shadows and play a very small role in the second. The changes in characters and events in this story were inconsistent with the first series in this world as well.
My first question: why was this book moving at warp speed? This was a tell not show book if I've ever read one. Not only did we barely see her at the academy, you know Paving the Way for other FEMALE CADETS, everything about her training just seems like an after thought. We get told that female cadets come to the academy then we see them once. I don't care about them, we haven't seen them become friends with Grace, AT ALL.
Also if you're going to change the whole premise of a reverse harem into a single relationship maybe don't do that HALF WAY THROUGH THE SERIES. I loved Hunter and Brax and you barely see them at all. Not only are they barely present, but they don't have a single speaking roll except for the first fifty pages and the last fifty pages. I hated it. Why kick the friends to the side? I liked them. They balanced out how much I hated Cole.
Everything appeared and disappeared basically within the same chapter. Julian leaves the academy without so much as a goodbye or a conclusion to his story. The grandfather is actually the real villain and everything that was said about the dad was a lie, but also not really. We have the graduation ceremony on TWO pages. She has new friends but we barely see them. She somehow has this deep relationship with her bio dad but we don't see that either. She's hurt and hasn't forgiven Cole about lying about her identity, but they're fine a page later because he kisses her.
This book was such a 180 from book one and such a disappointment. Nothing was cohesive or felt remotely connected to book one.
80% of this book was just sex between Cold and Grace. I'm not even kidding and it wasn't even good sex. I swear I read brat more times in this book than I have ever heard it in my life.
I loved the first book and was so excited for the sequel. Boy am I glad I didn't get the paperback version of this mess.
As we begin, we are immediately right where we left off. There is no slowing either Grace of Cole down when lives are at stake. And as Grace starts to remember who she is and also learns the truth about the Dark Knights and the Founders, she has some big decisions to make and that includes her feelings and trust towards the only guy she has ever truly loved.
For all that Cole has been through in the past few months, he finally realized what he must do to protect Grace. Knowing that things may be worse before they can get better with them to ensure that she has all the knowledge she needs. This especially comes into play when she has to meet her grandpa for the first time. Let’s not forget that Grace still has to complete the obstacle course so that she can become a Cadet in the Academy which will allow other females to be accepted at YMA.
There is no slowing down with this book as it has action right from the first page all the way to the end. Jillian has given us so much more in this book and that includes really seeing who Grace and Cole are with each other and apart. We also get lots more of Alex and her husbands the Salvatore brothers. I love that these four guys are seen through Grace’s eyes. Maybe watching Grace realize that she has a cousin and finally getting to know him as well. With all that said, I still love Cole beyond words. Every single time that he calls Grace his “brat” I wanted to swoon. There is just something about these two that just makes my heart so very happy.
Your Heroines Take Abuse but Forgive and Trust Tto Easily
I read Boardwalk Kings, Queens and Reign series. I have the same critique with this final book of the 2 book series. You build a strong female character, spend about 70% of the time taking abuse from people who should have cared for her, but like weak women, your heroine gives in too quickly. It is disgusting how Grace too so much abuse from Cole then allows him back into her heart and bed with no time to address her anger and broken trust. The separation and rules set by the women are cathartic for both them and the reader. I cried for Grace throughout the last book but am disgusted that she went back to Fing Cole when he says one nice thing. I only started the first chapters but had to stop because I was angry at Grace, Cole’s father for looking away at the brutal hazing she took and did not offer her funds so she could leave them, as she should have. Yet another story where you built a strong woman, but made her very weak in the end. Color me disappointed…
This book was very very disappointing. I don't give out 1 star willy nilly. I read book 1 and it was setup as a RH and it was so good. I was so excited to read book 2. But this book was a let down. It felt like this book was written either by a) someone else or b) the author gave up on the relationship dynamic of book 1 and just changed it mid duet.
Also, don't get me started on the whole grandfather issue. I'm still confused. What was the whole point of bringing him up in the story? And the way he was cut out of the story was wayyyy to easy. This book felt rushed, unorganized, and disjointed.
Also, coles personality changed 180 from book 1 to book 2. That was another thing that irritated me. You had him literally bullying her all if book 1 and then like page 10. "I love you, Grace." And she was just fine with it. No. Unreasonable. Just can't get past it.
I thought the book was good. It started off right where the last book left off, but I felt the tone and direction of the story slightly changed. A good book but different from what I expected reading the Salvatore series and the first book.
Spoiler Alert
Suddenly there was no other relationship with Hunter and Brax. It was talked about and shown in the first book, but then in the second nothing. It almost made it seem like there was no emotional or physical connection to either one. Also the Julian ending was slightly anti climactic. He just kinda faded away. I love Cole and Grace together and their scenes were spicy but I felt like the story was a little rushed at the end.

loved first book but was disappointed with this one.
I loved the first book so much that I couldn’t wait for this one. But I was a little disappointed a lot of the themes and characters from the first book were gone. Although the writing was good, It felt like a completely different book series compared to the first.
Spoilers…. The first book was advertised as a RH but then the second book has none of that, turns out it was a RH series after all even with all the lead up and plot building for it.
I was so disappointed in the book. After reading and falling in love with the first book and it’s characters (which was RH), this second one was way off mark. All of a sudden it’s a M/F romance, which is fine except for the fact that it came with no warning. And the writing style also wasn’t up to par, we were just told what happened and everything was wrapped in a nice bow. It felt like the book was a contemplation of epilogues of the MCs life. It could’ve been better.
Cole and Grace story continued from book one. The story felt rushed, what book 1 had, was reverse harem turned into one on one coupling. Their story kind of continued but the rest of the characters were left out of it.
The jump to having a non-bad guy father to an evil grandfather was explained with little info. Even so much as evil granddad dies…no story, one minute alive and grumpy next chapter he’s dead.
Grace went from a kick ass bad FMC in book one to a needy, confused girl in book 2. Was there a 1.5 story that was cut from both books.

This is book two of the Ruthless Cadets duet and I loved this story. From the moment Cole laid eyes on Grace he knew he wanted to keep her and make her his, it didn't matter that they were only kids at the time. Cole and Grace were meant to be, but would Grace's family tear them apart?
Hmmmm... it's like I got dumped into a completely different story from the first book. A big disappointment for the potential laid out from book 1. Oh well. Maybe if I had back story from one of the author's other series it would have helped.
This was really good. Grace (aptly named) went through Hell! I really enjoyed this book. However, I would love to read more about the other Founder’s children, Drake and Olivia’s story should be next.
This wasn’t bad just not entertaining. It was boring. I honestly didn’t care about any of it. I would have preferred her getting kidnapped just for the fact that it would be more entertaining if Cole was looking for her. That sounds bad but oh well.

Same as the rating for the first book... I had high expectations starting this series so I was a little disappointed... The books are not bad at all, it's just a "me" kind of problem
Character Development: none; Grace succeeds and she and Cole are lovers again Sex: 2 chili peppers; it's pretty vanilla after the Princes of Devil's Creek series, honestly. Plot: obvious it was going to work out and the main business of this is Grace persevering despite being the only ovaries in the entire military academy. There's a betrayal by a friend, a dangerous situation, and the secret is revealed. Grace has also been dealing with a mental blockage about her past that is resolved after a few things go down.
Recommend reading this duet before reading/finishing Book 3 Savage Knights in the Princes of Devil's Creek series.
