Comprehensive but succinct, easy to follow and summaries most, if not all, the techniques. It's more for intermediate artists as there's not as many step by step tutorials but I think it could still be used by beginners. It comprehensively covers a wide range of supplies for pens, ink, dip pens, all the techniques for drawing, painting with ink, watercolour and collage, mixed media that you would have to read in about 20 art books to learn. Liz truly combines and stretches the limits of watercolour and ink properties. There is enough of an explanation for even beginners to give it a go. I learnt one or two that I've never heard of before such as a gouache wash resist - this combines both watercolour and ink techniques as an alternative to using masking fluid, also covers a variety of mediums and surfaces including watercolour ground on different surfaces including wood, through to collage and using gold leaf. She covered the chromatic effects of using water soluble ink to draw and simply wash with water which I also had previously discovered but this is the first time I've seen this described in any art book.

I enjoy reading creative books to educate and inspire my own art. This can often be a hit or miss process. This time around was a very positive experience. Unlike the cutesy hobby art style books that are so popular now, this book was highly informative filled unique professional quality tips. I found several techniques that I would like to try. Definitely would recommend.

Options please

That, that I take from this book is that there is no shortage of options that an artist can exercise to be creative, constructive and inspiring.
