Mirrorside #2

Hunt the Stars

Rate this book
After discovering that she—surprise—has a brother, and that Hunter has been holding out on her when it comes to how exactly she can get back home, Noelle chooses to ride off on a majestic buck rather than spend one more minute with the two guys.

But, as she finds out, running away doesn’t mean that her story is over. In fact, it’s only just begun—

Noelle

You’ve got to be friggin’ kidding me!

It’s bad enough that I fell through an antique mirror and ended up in the enchanted forest of the Other. I thought I’d seen it all after being chased by giant scorpions, getting shot at by a mysterious archer, and being hit on by a horny satyr. Yeah, right.

Thank the stars that I had Hunter, the gorgeous huntsman who’s been at my side since I landed here. Without him, I would’ve been scorpion chow within minutes. Kind and strong and a pleasure to look at when he isn’t wearing his hooded cloak, trying like hell to get back home to my condo and my cat wasn’t so bad as long as I had Hunter.

Then I met Alex, the mysterious archer I mentioned, and he dropped the bomb on me: he’s my brother.

Even worse?

Hunter’s been lying to me all along. He’s not helping me go home. He can’t. No one can.

Apparently we’re stuck in some stupid story. The magic of the Other? It brings people to this weirdo world to relive ancient Greek myths over and over again and I can’t leave until the story is over.

One problem.

No one will tell me how the myth of Artemis and Orion ends.

Hunter

Orion keeps whispering in my ear, telling me how our story is supposed to go: find Artemis, fall in love with the maiden goddess, and die. It’s what happens every time—there’s no way around it.

But Noelle isn’t like any Artemis he’s ever known. She’s feisty and loyal and looks at me as if staying chaste is the last thing on her mind.

At least, she did. Before her damn brother came along and told her what I’d carefully been hiding: portals only open to the Mirrorside after the story is told.

Until I die, and she—one way or the other, depending on the tale—kills me.

There’s no way to change the ending. It’s as old as time, and the magic of the Other ensures that our story will end as it has countless times before.

Then why do I feel like Noelle is meant to be mine? Not Orion’s, and not for a little while, but forever?

I don’t know, and maybe it’s pointless, but I’m going to do everything I can to show Noelle I love her—even if I have to sacrifice myself so that she can finally go home.

Another fun entertaining read for the conclusion of Hunter and Noelle’s story. This one starts right where the last book ended; Noelle threw a tantrum and ran off when she found out about the God and Goddess stuff, but she quickly realizes it’s better to have allies. Enjoy the sweet romance between Noelle and Hunter; they are too cute. I like the woodsy magical setting too. I’m still not loving Noelle’s personality; I like her sass, but she’s a bit of a brat and comes across as selfish at times.

I wish there were a bit more to the ending, but the overall story is interesting. Plus, I read this story in the Other duet book set; it had book 1 and 2 of Noelle and Hunter’s story, and a cute short story about dealing with Dudley, so that helped further my enjoyment of the ending of book 2. I’m looking forward to reading about the other characters finding their happy in the next books!

Will the story of Artemis and Orion repeat itself once again? It's always ended in tragedy before. Perhaps this time Noelle and Hunter can change their fate.

This is a fantastic conclusion to the story. The dual persons inhabiting of the Noelle and Hunter are well played out. It's easy to believe the struggle they both have with who they once were and who they are now. It's the ability to retain both, without losing the other that makes this story so compelling. Plus, there is a building romance that'll make romance lovers sigh.

If you know anything about Greek mythology, you'll enjoy this modern-day re-creation of the story of Artemis and Orion.

This book starts right where book one left off. Noelle and Hunter are now searching for a portal for her to return home. Yet, Noelle and Hunter have become closer. Does she decide to stay with Hunter in Other or does she return to her condo? I hope in book three, more of Hunter and Noelle's story comes out.

Side note: I loved the Greek mythology behind this story. This is a wonderfully written book with a love story to be told hidden in another world beyond a mirror.

Loved it!

I am ready to begin my third book by this author now. I loved having just enough sex that it wasnt porn. I loved the humor and both the strength and vulnerability of the characters. Very good read. So happy this author is now sharing her talent with us!
