Impressive volume. This series is going a good job of building the themes and plot points without things going by too fast. It has a lot of character, and I look forward to reading more of it, and Hell's Paradise as well.

With the world and characters set up, the plot starts to gain some steam and promise.

For the most part, it has being really interesting, specially when it comes to the different kinds of yokai.
I specially liked the biker arc thing, it was mostly funny.

When you finish volume 2 wondering how we are suddenly in the Tokyo Revengers arc. All jokes aside the Todoroki biker arc is fun.
Maruo - Only seems have 2 brain cells, but they really are working for him lol. As a protagonist he is funny and definitely someone you root for which is all I can ask. His story that we only really get little taste of is much deeper than a boy who likes manga and the main protagonists of them. He is a dash more complex than I originally gave him credit for in the first volume.
Urara - Just when I thought you were meh... you tugged on my heart strings and are also a bit badass.
Ten - Gives me zenitsu (from demon slayer) side kick vibes, and I instantly love him.
Doppo - I am actually in awe of his flames being able to steal heat and generating heat. Very cool! He is still creepy as hell though.
Hashihime -
Kotton - Welcome & let me be the first to sayyyyy you is fineeeeeee! (this is the only commentary I have on him lololol)
Characters aside, the story with so few chapters is still building up in this volume, which is confusing with only one more volume left to go. The character alone give this a 4, but because of the plot it is going to be a 2.5. I'm just confused where this is going. Sorryyyyyy!

*Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review*
This volume falters a little compared to the first one, now that the main plot is set up the focus here was on fighting for allies and territory so Urara can take over. The fights themselves were fairly standard, though the telepathy between Urara and Maruo near the end of the volume was fun. The friendship between the two, and their ally Ten, also improved in this volume, which was a marked improvement over the first volume, and in particular I liked the was Urara's character is developing. The art style is solid, I love the way the mangaka does expressions, they're fantastic at getting exaggerated faces to still look realistic. As a sidenote, I also love the mangaka's coloring style, the colors on the cover (and the ones for their other series, Jigokuraku) is some of the best i've seen in a while. As with the first volume, my main complaint is the pacing, I know volume three is the last one, so i'm concerned about the rush to finish the plot. That being said, i'm looking forward to seeing how the series ends.

So Maruo picked a fight with Doppo Akari, human vs ayashimon, where it quickly becomes clear that even Maruo's freak strength isn't enough. Urara decides that Maruo isn't just an expendable pawn so she has to break out her trump card and run away or she, Maruo, and Ten are going to get offed.
So one retreat and regroup later, and the new plan is to team up with one of the four fragments of the original Enma Syndicate: the Todoroki Alliance, which is a biker gang. Cool. New characters, more options... until Urara tells Maruo not to pick a fight because diplomacy, diplomacy goes well, but they end up fighting anyway because...

But Ten's fight was cool. Way to go little buddy. Either way, the story can barely go a few pages before a fight gets in the way of plot...or plot is replaced with a fight. Seriously, they keep hinting at Maruo being more than human or Urara maybe knowing who killed her dad but they're never going to get there if they keep taking detours.
This series has 3 volumes.

Series: Ayashimon #2 (Ch. 8-16)
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good
This volume continues Marou and Urara’s journey. Marou is finally living as the manga protagonist he always dreamed of and is now fighting against the ayashimon. In this volume we see Chairman Doppo’s yokai abilities, Urara’s true form, and Urara attempting to make an alliance with the Todoroki Alliance.
I am really enjoying Marou and Urara’s story. It is fast paced, action packed, and the ayashimon have cool abilities. While we see them get knocked down for a little bit, they rise back up more determined than ever to reach their goal. Much like a manga protagonist does and Marou continues to try to follow.
I am really interested in seeing how this one-on-one battle against the Todoroki Alliance ends and seeing how the battle against Chairman Doppo ends.
TW: child abuse, starvation, homelessness, grief, death of a parent

Thank you, VIZ Media & NetGalley Im thrilled to continue this manga and happy to say my love for it is all honest!
Imagine having such belief and determination in the idea of manga heroes that you train and build a tolerate that you can survive a building smashed into you... like wtf.
This picks back up with more action and fight, but we are growing as a clan. I loved seeing the sneak peek into both Urara's & Maruo's childhood; it strengthens their characters and choices. ALSO SOOOOOOO interested in Urara and that dagger!

I read these as individual chapters in the Shonen Jump App. The final chapter came out just yesterday. Overall, this was a fun series that was over before it really gained traction. I have heard of the Magaka's other work but have not read it. The art was solid and there were some really fun fight sequences.

Nice art…story is compelling too but maybe not my cup of tea. Can’t feel and see the deeper motivations yet in the characters. Anyway, I find it unhealthy for my subconscious so I’m unsure if I’ll keep on reading this. Interesting allusions though to some top shounen manga.

The MC lost his first battle and gets back up even more crazier in the end.
"Heroes in the manga lose only once and they defeat the villain next time. And I want to be a manga hero!"
Hard to argue with a MC that thinks like this.

Fun, but the more I read the more I kind of get why this was axed so early. Just not enough there to separate it from the crowd. The Ittan-momen guy being a kind of kamen rider person is a fun and imaginative interpretation of the yokai though.

It's been a hot second since I read vol. 1 so I kinda forgot a lot of stuff, but I quickly found myself entranced with the rhythm of this volume in no time. I can only describe the action as badass and the characters as very heartfelt and lovable. I adore seeing their dynamics in action!

Kinda felt rushed ngl. Still cool concept but character development is way too sudden and poorly executed. Still great concept and enjoyable read

I love the groundwork this series laid, the underworld and all the ayashimon were unique and interesting and the whole one-on-one duelling was a neat idea

So many fun fight scenes and the yokai featured are interesting to learn about.

Generic. Fun characters , but it's nothing that hasn't been done 300 times in the past.

I’m excited to see how this will end! I would’ve liked it to be longer bc the concepts are all so interesting

todavía no me gustan los personajes, me parece re floja la trama
pero, las escenas de acción se sienten super animadas, lo cual es muy cool

This volume felt like it had a decent amount of filler for a second volume, but i felt like it was going to get better from here. However, after just learning that the series has been prematurely cancelled, I have no interest in continuing this for a rushed/forced early conclusion so im tapping out here. so sad, seemed like it was finding its footing 😭

More of a 3.5 rating & I read the official English translation through an app called “MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA”.
I’m really enjoying seeing Maruo doing the ritual duels with the different antagonists and seeing everyone viewing the duel, so shocked at how resilient Maruo is. It’s very cool seeing all of the different types of ayashimons and their roles in the different yakuza groups. A more cute aspect of the series is seeing Maruo and Urara’s bond grow (I’m hoping it stays platonic though). I’m really liking this series and it’s upsetting to learn that the next volume is also the last one.

It's a shame they cancelled this series so quickly
