klein is an engaging writer and a direct communicator who isn't afraid to stake a claim, which makes this tome enjoyable to read — particularly the real-life examples. i appreciate the moments when klein's work in feminist spaces shows up and wish this was more politically engaged, particularly on how fundraising leaders can model just labor practices for their teams (for instance, i vehemently disagree with her assertion that volunteer work should be judged on the same standards as paid work). overall super glad i have a (dated) copy for my ongoing reference.
This was a great overview for traditional fundraising methods, my only complaint would be that she barely covered online fundraising which is huge now.
This book is full of useful, practical, and step by step fundraising advice for organizations. If you have never done any fundraising, this book will help you get started and grow your fundraising. The author uses her years of experience to share stories and case studies that give further understanding to the material and let you see how fundraising works for specific organizations. Very helpful.
If you know nothing at all about nonprofit fundraising and would like to learn, this is the book for you. Kim Klein gives a comprehensive, easy to read explanation of how to raise money from donors. And she does not presume that you have any background or context for this work at all. Very well done!
very good book. I need to buy it so I can refer to it and use it regularly. Lots of good information, but will look forward to a newer/next version, too. Would be a great tool for anyone in fundraising. Glad my "mentor" recommended it to me. I will also be reading her other books and taking notes to act on from this one.
Sadly, I had to take this back to the library before I could finish it, so I'm only reporting on the first half. It's a great guide book for people doing development or fundraising who want to take a mission-focused approach to their work. I'll report on part two as soon as library fines permit.
