A Chinese fishing fleet, illegally fishing off the Chesapeake Bay, is approached by the Coast Guard. It dumps its illegal catch to avoid arrest and is allowed to leave with a warning.
Ten years later, people on the bay, near a now-shuttered nuclear power plant, begin to disappear under mysterious circumstances. Alex Stiles, a detective with the Calvert County Sheriff's Office and his partner, Ellen Morgan, knows something strange is going on, but it’s only when they get the help of marine biologist Rita Chang that they learn just how strange.
I've been writing since my teens. In addition to writing for several newspapers and magazines in the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa, I've written two books on leadership and a number of fiction works. I'm also a published poet, photographer, and artist. I write in several genres, reflecting my broad reading tastes. I spent 20 years in the army, retiring in 1982 and becoming a diplomat. I've worked in about 10 countries and traveled to about 30 more, mining each for material to write about.
I've found myself back with science fiction, which I enjoyed in my teens. This short novel was recommended to me by Amazon. It's a good story, exciting too, but badly flawed. It reads like a first draft, with missing words and incorrect words, now for not etc, that give the impression of a sloppily produced book rushed out to add one more to the total. A bit disappointing, really.
