Thiruthakkadhevar (திருத்தக்க தேவர்; Tiruttakkatevar) is of the Chola race who in his youth became a Jain ascetic and moved to Madhurai.

Civaka Cintamani (Tamil: சீவக சிந்தாமணி, romanized: Cīvaka Cintāmaṇi, lit. 'Jivaka, the Fabulous Gem'), also spelled as Jivaka Chintamani, is one of the five great Tamil epics. Authored by a Madurai-based Jain ascetic Tiruttakkatēvar in the early 10th century, the epic is a story of a prince who is the perfect master of all arts, perfect warrior and perfect lover with numerous wives. The Civaka Cintamani is also called the Mana Nool (Tamil: மண நூல், romanized: Maṇa nūl, lit. 'book of marriages'). The epic is organized into 13 cantos and contains 3,145 quatrains in viruttam poetic meter. Its Jain author is credited with 2,700 of these quatrains, the rest by his guru and another anonymous author.

I started reading this mainly with a curiosity of why this is part of aimperum kaappiyam - within few pages I understood this story didn't happen in current TN. Then googled about the other 4 kaappiyam. Seems only Silappathigaaram, Manimegalai haslve connect to TN. Other 3 are probably written by people who came from outside and learnt Tamil, which is amazing.
Reg the story and this book, very good breezy read. I couldn't remember the character names yet.

சற்றே சிறிய நூலானாலும், வாசித்து முடிக்க நாட்களாகி விட்டதற்கு காரணமுண்டு.

சீவகசிந்தாமணி காப்பியத்தை உரைநடை கதையாக சொல்லாமல், அதில் உள்ள சில பாடல்களை மேற்கோள் காட்டியும், அதற்கு பொருள் விளக்கங்களை கொண்டும் அமைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது இந்நூல்.

சில பாடல்களுக்கு விளக்கங்களும் இல்லை. அதனால் பலமுறை படித்தபின்தான் பொருள் உணர்ந்து கொள்ள முடிகிறது.


சீவகனின் கதை தெரிந்ததுதான் என்றாலும், பாடல்கள் மூலமாகவும் அறிவதில், நமது பள்ளிகாலத்தில் படித்ததை நினைவு கூறமுடிகிறது.

அறம், நல்லொழுக்கம், வீரம், கொல்லாமை, புலனடக்கம், புலால் மறுத்தல், வீடுபேறு தொடர்பான பாடல்களே அதிகமாக இடம்பெற்றிருக்கிறது.

மேலும், கடைசி பக்கங்களில் குண்டலகேசி மற்றும் வளையாபதி பற்றியும் சில பாடல்களை மேற்கோள் காட்டியும் பொருள் விளக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.


காப்பிய பாடல்களை முழுவதும் படித்து பொருள் உணர்வதற்கு பதிலாக, இப்படி கதைநலனாக காப்பியங்களை படிக்க ஆரம்பிப்பது சற்று இலகுவானதாகவே படுகிறது.

பொறுமையும், தமிழ்மொழியில் சற்றே பொருள் ஞானமும் உள்ளவர்கட்கு வாசிக்க ஏற்ற நூல்.

            🔆வளையாபதி மற்றும் குண்டலகேசி பற்றிய தகவல்கள் முழுமையாக தெரியவில்லை. நாவல் வடிவில் படிப்பதனால், நாம் எளிமையாக புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியும்.

A book that takes us to the era of hero worship, the protagonist seemingly infallible and excessively lionized. However this is the book to understand the impact that Jainism had on Tamil Sangam Literature. Those who can comprehend the mindset of such an era will find the book thoroughly enjoyable.

Seriously, how many marriages!? lol. Good fiction, a journey. antha kaalathu sci-fi commercial padam nu nenaikuren. Mass hero, liked by most of the young women, amazingly skilled, born as a prince but brought up as an ordinary man who fights back for his throne and kingdom.

This story and Bahubali movie has many correlations. Also Ponniyin Selvan might be inspired from this story. Fantastic story, need to see in big screen.
